Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge opens to traffic
The world's longest sea bridge connecting Hong Kong, Macau and mainland China opened to traffic today, with excited travellers making their first journeys along the much-anticipated mega crossing. Passengers and tour groups gathered at Hong Kong's cross-border coach terminus and bus operators gave away Chinese pastries and roasted meat to passengers. 'I wanted to try this and see if it's convenient. I'll be checking out the view too, after all this is a historic engineering project,' said Angie Cheng, 58, who was taking the second bus of the day out to Macau.

The 34-mile-long Zhuhai-Macau bridge opens in Hong Kong
The world's longest sea-crossing bridge connecting Hong Kong and Macau to Zhuhai, south-east China is set to finally open this week, nine years after construction began. The much anticipated Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge will open to traffic on Wednesday 9am local time. Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to attend an opening ceremony on Tuesday in Zhuhai. Construction started in 2009 on the 55-kilometre (34-mile) crossing, which includes a snaking road bridge and underwater tunnel, linking Hong Kong's Lantau island to the southern mainland Chinese city of Zhuhai and the gambling enclave of Macau, across the waters of the Pearl River Estuary. Stretching across 55 kilometres (34 miles), it is 14 miles longer than the width of the English Channel from Dover in the United Kingdom to Calais in France.

The Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge (HZMB), officially the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge, is a 55-kilometre (34 mi) bridge–tunnel system consisting of a series of three cable-stayed bridges, an undersea tunnel, and four artificial islands. It is both the longest sea crossing[5][6] and the longest fixed link on earth. The HZMB spans the Lingding and Jiuzhou channels, connecting Hong Kong, Macau, and Zhuhai—three major cities on the Pearl River Delta.
The HZMB was designed to last for 120 years and built with a cost of 126.9 billion yuan (US$ 18.77 billion).The cost of constructing the Main Bridge was estimated at 51.1 billion yuan (US$ 7.56 billion) funded by bank loans and shared among the governments of mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau.

HONG KONG to ZHUHAI by BUS across the BRIDGE (How To Guide)
Our step by step guide on how to get to Zhuhai from Hong Kong by bus, using the new bridge -
- Clear customs at Hong Kong Airport and follow the signs to buses and taxis
- Check the bus schedule for any changes of route - destination is Hong Kong Zhuhai Macau
- Bridge (HZMB) (Hong Kong Port) at the time of filming the route is B4 to Lantau Island as this is where the bridge starts
- Follow signs for that route to find the bus stop
- Board the bus - get off at final terminus
- Purchase bridge coach tickets for Zhuhai at HZMB terminal (Hong Kong Port) at the time of filming the ticket price is 65-70 HKD (which is approx $8 or 7 Euros or £6)
- Enjoy the scenic bridge ride!
- Finally you will arrive in Zhuhai and need to go through Chinese immigration

World's longest sea crossing: Hong Kong-Zhuhai bridge opens
Chinese President Xi Jinping has officially opened the world's longest sea crossing bridge, nine years after construction first began.
Including its access roads, the bridge spans 55km (34 miles) and connects Hong Kong to Macau and the mainland Chinese city of Zhuhai.
The bridge has cost about $20bn (£15.3bn) and seen several delays.
Construction has been dogged by safety issues - at least 18 workers have died on the project, officials say.
Mr Xi attended the opening ceremony of the bridge, which took place in Zhuhai, along with the leaders of Hong Kong and Macau.
The bridge will open to regular traffic on Wednesday.
