Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia - Yes, I'm going to call this the most beautiful national park in Europe. The Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia is one of the most incredible natural landscapes I have ever witnessed.
Plitvice Lakes National Park (Plitvička Jezera) is 300 square kilometers of deep green lush forest, and features 16 incredible lakes, all inter-connected by a seemingly endless series of majestic waterfalls.
The Croatian National Park a well-deserved UNESCO World Heritage site, and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Croatia.
If you're looking for the best things to do in Croatia, I highly recommend coming to Plitvice National Park.
Just be careful of what time of year you come to this National Park, because it does get very crowded in the summer months. I would actually love to come back to Plitvice in the fall!

Plitvice Lakes National Park (Croatian: Nacionalni park Plitvička jezera, colloquial Plitvice, pronounced [plîtʋitse]) is one of the oldest national parks in Southeast Europe and the largest national park in Croatia. In 1979, Plitvice Lakes National Park was added to the UNESCO World Heritage register.
The national park was founded in 1949 and is situated in the mountainous karst area of central Croatia, at the border to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The important north-south road connection, which passes through the national park area, connects the Croatian inland with the Adriatic coastal region.
The protected area extends over 296.85 square kilometres (73,350 acres). About 90% of this area is part of Lika-Senj County, while the remaining 10% is part of Karlovac County.
Each year, more than 1 million visitors are recorded. Entrance is subject to variable charges, up to 180 kuna or around €24 per adult in peak season.

Plitvice, Croatia: A walk through showing the real eye level view of this amazing national park. Although there is not one single stunning place, the series of lakes and waterfalls along tree lined paths are very beautiful. A full or half day spent here, especially early in the morning before the crowds show up will bring you closer to serene nature. The national park was founded in 1949 and is in the mountainous karst area of central Croatia, at the border to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The important north–south road that passes through the national park area connects the Croatian inland with the Adriatic coastal region.

The national park is world-famous for its lakes arranged in cascades. Sixteen lakes can be seen from the surface. These lakes are a result of the confluence of several small rivers and subterranean karst rivers. The lakes are all interconnected and follow the water flow. They are separated by natural dams of travertine, which is deposited by the action of moss, algae, and bacteria. The particularly sensitive travertine barriers are the result of an interplay between water, air and plants. The encrusted plants and bacteria accumulate on top of each other, forming travertine barriers which grow at the rate of about 1 cm (0.4 in) per year.
The 16 lakes are separated into an upper and lower cluster formed by runoff from the mountains, descending from an altitude of 636 to 503 m (2,087 to 1,650 ft) over a distance of some 8 kilometers (5.0 mi), aligned in a south–north direction. The lakes collectively cover an area of about 0.77 square miles, the water exiting from the lowest lake forming the Korana River.
The lakes are renowned for their distinctive colors, ranging from azure to green, grey or blue. The colors change constantly depending on the quantity of minerals or organisms in the water and the angle of sunlight.

Hands down our favourite place we spent time in. Our camera/photography really doesn't do it justice but it may give you an idea on why it was our favourite.
The Plitvice Lakes National Park has been so well designed. They could have easily had tree-top like walkways but instead have created walkways that move through the streams and over waterfalls so you really feel like you're in it!

Incredible Plitvice Lakes! CROATIA
We spent a day walking through stunning Plitvice Lakes... The turquoise waters and stunning waterfalls are a true miracle of nature! Advice? Take the trails that are less touristy to avoid the crowds.
We made a pitstop in Split before making our way to Dubrovnik.

The BEST Day Hike in Plitvice Lakes National Park (CROATIA!)
Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of the most photo famous spots in all of Croatia. Despite being on of the most loved places in the Balkans, the National Park is actually even better in real life than in the photos.
We did the 8 km C trail through the park on an extremely rainy day. Despite the bad weather, it was exceptionally beautiful.
