Crete (Κρήτη in Greek 2024) is the biggest island of Greece and the fourth biggest in the Mediterranean. The island is strategically located between 3 continents: Europe, Asia and Africa. Due to its strategic location it has had many occupations of foreign empires (Romans, Venetians, Ottomans). They all left their landmark on the island.
The island of Crete has an impressive nature with all the microclimates of the world ranging from tropical forests, deserts, pine forests, lakes, waterfalls, tropical palm and island lagoons and ski resorts in the winter. There are 3 big mountain ranges with peaks above 2,500 m (Psiloritis/Mount Ida, Lefka Ori/Madares and the Lassithi Plateau). The longest canyon of Europe is the Samaria Gorge in the Lefka Ori Mountains. It has a trail of 19 km. There are also many valleys on the island. The biggest plain is the Messara valley in the south of the island which is 60 km wide. The island is 350 km long and 70 km at its widest point. It takes about 6 hours by car from East to West. That road is approximately 450 km. Crete has many endemic species and plants and is famous for its wild orchids.
The biggest cities of Crete are Heraklion (the Capital), Chania, Rethymnon and Agios Nikolaos. The total population of the island is approximately 650,000 residents. The island is one of the few regions in Greece where there is no population decline. The main industry of Crete is agriculture, fishing, shipping, services and tourism and the production of cement. Tourism is about 50 percent of the total income. There is however also a very good University of Crete and a Technological Institute (FORTH) with a very strong Digital and Health innovation. The European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) is also based in Heraklion, Crete.

Filmed in 2 Months of living on the beautiful island of Crete, this masterpiece is the result of traveling to various places around the island.
A drone complication that represents the beauty and diversity of Crete.
Lay back & enjoy the truly mediterranean vibes.
A lot of time was spent researching and getting the right shots. Unfortunelatly the movies about Psiloritis mountain range are not what I expected, We arrived at the top when snowing and nothing to see. We tried 2 times to climb this mountain, but no good luck. Anyway, that's a reason to come back & do a total different project around this :)
It's my dream to one day live on this paradise, and be location independent.

Venetian Harbour of Chania:
A masterpiece of its kind, a melting pot of civilizations, and a unique place in the entire world
The Venetian Harbour of Chania is the absolute landmark of Chania city and West Crete.
Expertly built in the 14th century, the Venetian Harbour of Chania was constructed for commercial purposes, and for protection from pirate raids, which were frequent at these days. The Venetian harbour had a capacity of no less than 40 Venetian galleys.
The Inner Venetian Harbour of Chania
Towards the east, is the Inner Venetian Harbour of Chania.
After the small boats and fishing vessels that are moored in the harbour, on the corner of the harbour we see a unique building of Ottoman origin, with a very interesting roof. This is the Kioutsouk Hasan mosque, or Yali Tzami, one of the most characteristic buildings in the Venetian Harbour of Chania. Kioutsouk Hasan mosque was built in 1645, the exact year Chania city fell to the Ottomans.
After about 100 metres from the Kioutsouk Hasan mosque, we find the Big Arsenali, the first of the Neoria buildings. Neoria in ancient Greek means shipyards, and this exactly was the use of these buildings in the Venetian era. Later, during the sieges of Chania city, the Neoria were used as huge storehouses for the necessary food supplies of the city.
After a few minutes’ walk we get to the beginning of the old sea wall that protected the ships that were moored in the eastern part of the Venetian Harbour of Chania.
Through a route that passes upon the sea wall, you can reach the Arabian Lighthouse on the edge of the sea wall. A very characteristic building, the Arabian Lighthouse was built by the Venetians and restored by the Egyptians in the beginning of the 19th century.
The Outer Venetian Harbour of Chania
Going west to the outer Venetian Harbour of Chania, we find many taverns and cafés bustling with life during the summer months.
The prominent building in the Outer Venetian Harbour of Chania is Firkas fortress, on the edge of the harbour, just across the Arabian Lighthouse. Firkas fortress was used as a fortress during the Venetian era and as a prison during the Ottoman occupation. Today, the Maritime Museum of Chania is hosted inside the fortress.
Firkas fortress also hosts a summer theatre. The inner part of the fortress is impressive, providing very good view to the sea and to the Venetian Harbour of Chania. Firkas fortress is a historic building, as it was the exact place where the Greek flag was raised again, after many centuries, in 1913, the year the reunion of Crete with Greece took place.
The Venetian Harbour of Chania is a superb sight, a grand sample of the fine construction capabilities of the Venetians. At the same time, it is a place full of historic memories, where the Greek, the Venetian and the Ottoman civilizations stand side by side, each one complementing the others.
Together with the nearby Old City of Chania, the Venetian Harbour of Chania is a unique place in the entire world, as more than a million visitors discover every year. When visiting the Venetian Harbour of Chania, you can live this select experience more vividly when you consider the everlasting love of the human race for the sea.
Chania (Greek: Χανιά [xaˈɲa] (listen); Venetian: La Canea) is a city in Greece and the capital of the Chania regional unit. It lies along the north west coast of the island Crete, about 70 km (43 mi) west of Rethymno and 145 km (90 mi) west of Heraklion.
The municipality has 108,642 inhabitants (2011). This consists of the city of Chania and several nearby areas, including Kounoupidiana (pop. 8,620), Mournies (pop. 7,614), Souda (pop. 6,418), Nerokouros (pop. 5,531), Daratsos (pop. 4,732), Perivolia (pop. 3,986), Galatas (pop. 3,166) and Aroni (pop. 3,003).
