THIS IS PURA VIDA | Costa Rica Cinematic Video

It is extraordinary when you travel to a country that gives more importance to nature than, for example, the army. The experience is different, the beaches are different, the people, the animals, the forests... a world apart in my view.

This is Pura Vida for me.

Costa Rica Ecotourism

Ecotourism is big in Costa Rica. This is, after all, a country that harbors some 5 percent of the planet's total biodiversity and is spread thick with forests, mountains, rivers, and oceans.

At its root, ecotourism involves exploring outdoor areas and learning about nature. It brings people outside (to tropical rainforests and active volcanoes, for example), connecting them with a particular place and the wildlife. Eco-activities include hiking, rafting, bird watching, snorkeling, scuba diving, and marine mammal observation.

By their very nature, these activities are educational. On a guided hike through the rainforest, for example, you might learn about the structure of the forest canopy or the medical uses for tropical plants. While on a whale watching tour, you may learn about the migration patterns of humpback whales or how climate change is affecting coral reefs.

Eco-travelers often stay at ecolodges in rural outdoor areas that provide immediate access to nature. The emphasis here, as with all forms of ecotourism, is on the outdoors. Most ecolodges allow you to step out of your room and have instant accesss to the countryside. It's pretty cool.

By connecting people with the environment and teaching them about nature, ecotourism helps impart important environmental lessons. As such, ecotourism involves important aspects of sustainability and conservation.

Biologically Intense Place on Earth Osa Peninsula Costa Rica

Most Biologically Intense Place on Earth Osa Peninsula Costa Rica - Osa Peninsula Wildlife

Let’s explore a place that National Geographic magazine refers to as “the most biologically intense place on earth”...the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica. Discover what the wildlife of Osa Peninsula has to offer: crocodiles, frogs, water birds, snakes, bats, lizards, and more. Check out the Monkey Tour where you’ll see lots of resident animals and learn interesting facts about the local wildlife.

The Osa Peninsula is a peninsula located in southwestern Costa Rica, in the Puntarenas Province, with the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Golfo Dulce to the east. The peninsula was formed geologically by a faulting system that extends north into California.

If you're a nature-loving slow traveler looking for a new destination in the natural beauty of a tropical rainforest, we can't think of a better place than the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica.

Named by National Geographic as “the most biologically intense place on earth,” the Osa Peninsula is a true jewel of land, water, and life. Covering an area of just 700 square miles on the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica, the Osa's geological history makes it home to a nearly unparalleled amount of biodiversity.

Breathtaking Landscapes of Costa Rica

Here are five interesting facts about Costa Rica:

Biodiversity Hotspot:
Costa Rica is a biodiversity hotspot, known for its incredible variety of plant and animal species. Despite covering only 0.03% of the Earth's surface, Costa Rica is home to around 6% of the world's biodiversity. The country has numerous national parks and protected areas, making it a haven for nature lovers and ecotourism.

Pura Vida Lifestyle:
Pura Vida is a popular saying in Costa Rica that translates to pure life in English. It is more than just a phrase; it embodies a way of life. Costa Ricans use Pura Vida to convey a sense of well-being, positivity, and a laid-back attitude. Visitors often find the Pura Vida lifestyle contagious and embrace it during their stay.

No Military Since 1949:
Costa Rica abolished its army in 1949, and since then, it has remained one of the few countries in the world without a military force. The decision was made to allocate resources to education, health, and environmental conservation. Costa Rica has been known for its commitment to peace and has a strong democratic tradition.

Arenal Volcano:
Costa Rica is home to many volcanoes, and Arenal Volcano was once considered one of the most active in the world. Although it entered a resting phase in 2010, Arenal remains a prominent feature in the country's landscape. The surrounding Arenal Volcano National Park offers hot springs, hiking trails, and opportunities to witness the regrowth of the tropical forest.

Blue Zones:
The Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica is one of the world's Blue Zones, areas where people live measurably longer lives. The residents of Nicoya are known for their longevity, attributed to a combination of a healthy diet, active lifestyle, strong community ties, and access to clean air and water.

Costa Rica's commitment to conservation, its unique cultural identity, and its natural beauty make it a fascinating destination for travelers seeking a blend of adventure, environmental awareness, and a laid-back lifestyle.

Secrets of PURA VIDA in Costa Rica | Cinematic video

We live in a consumer society, we're blinded by the desire for social status, ever increasing salary or fame and luxury. This materialistic lifestyle is affecting our planet, which is balancing at the edge of irreversible transformation.
Now imagine a country where instead of hello, goodbye or thank you, they use the phrase PURA VIDA, meaning pure or simple life. In Costa Rica this is not just a saying but rather a philosophy of living happy and modest life with respect to nature.
Our planet is something we all share. We like to enjoy the incredible beauty it offers, yet not all of us agree it is time to give something back. While it is hard to change the systems, it is not too late for each one of us to adjust our habits. And a big change starts with little steps.
Are you gonna be the next one to open your eyes?

Top 10 Things to Do in Costa Rica ● The Best Tourist Destination

Best Places to Stay in Costa Rica,
Top Things To Do in Northern Costa Rica,

Back in the late ‘90s, when it was still emerging as a world-renowned ecotourism hotspot, Costa Rica (link sends e-mail)

was my first trip abroad as an adult. As a budding nature lover, my mind was blown by all of the different things to do in

Costa Rica, not to mention the remarkably rich biodiversity of its wilderness.

On my first 10-day visit I only had a chance to explore a few of the country’s 27 national parks, 58 wildlife refuges, 32

protected zones, 15 wetland areas, 11 forest reserves and 8 biological reserves. But I was astounded by the plentiful wildlife

in Costa Rica– four types of Monkeys, two kinds of Sloths, the inquisitive White-Nosed Coatis, the bizarre Baird’s Tapir,

Caiman, Crodociles, and so many different species of birds, frogs and butterflies that I lost count.

As fascinating as all the animal action was, I was even more impressed by the locals, who are affectionately known as ticos

(or ticas, in the feminine form). Ticos are known for their happy disposition and pura vida philosophy, which emphasizes a

love of the “pure life”– good food, good friends, and savoring the beauty of the world around you. Their friendly smiles and

gracious hospitality warm my heart even now.

I’ve returned to the country several times in the 20 years since my first visit, sharing my deep love of the country with my wife

and daughter. Here are my picks for the top 10 things to do on a Costa Rica tour:
1. Bask on the Beaches
2. Birdwatching in Monteverde
3. Explore Tortuguero National Park
4. Explore Tortuguero National Park
5. Hike Corcovado National Park
6. Monkey Around in Manuel Antonio National Park
7. See Sloths Up Close
8. Soak in Rejuvenating Hot Spings
9. Snorkel Cano Island
10. Whitewater Rafting on the Pacuare River
