Scuba Diving Caño Island, Costa Rica
The Caño Island Biological Reserve is one of the most revered dive sites in all of Costa Rica. Just about 20km off the coast of the Osa Peninsula, this pristine marine sanctuary is home to an astounding variety of wild life, including white tip sharks, harlequin shrimp, turtles, sea horses, and dozens of fish species. Leaving out of Uvita, we took a day trip to this majestic island to enjoy two dives that were truly enthralling.

When your divemaster tells you there is a small chance to spot bull sharks before the dive - but you don't believe in it. In the depth of 18 meters, you are filming a school of fish while a massive bull shark appears behind you without noticing it. And then you suddenly notice the bull shark passes by 3 meters besides you - we guess the bull shark's length was more than 2 meters. Normally, we are following every shark but this time we just screamed and swam away.

Scuba Diving & Snorkeling - Isla del Caño, Costa Rica
Diving around Caño Island is one of the most recommended diving trips in Costa Rica. Caño Island is a nature reserve that covers the entire surface of the island and the surrounding ocean waters. Thanks to the full protection of this area and the limited tourist traffic, many interesting marine animals can be found in the waters surrounding the island. Diving in Caño Island is an amazing opportunity to meet live manta rays, dolphins, whale sharks and even whales. The Isla del Cano nature reserve is often referred to as one of the best diving sites in Costa Rica. There are many water sports around Cano Island, such as scuba diving, snorkeling and whale watching. The area of the island and the amazing biodiversity of this area have been protected as a biological reserve since 1978. The area is famous for good visibility and warm water, which makes it a very good place for diving. Islas Catalinas, Costa Rica Scuba Diving, Nov. 27, '21 w/ Be Water Diving! Sharks, Eels, and More!!
This video took place on November 27, 2021, at the Catalina Islands, off the coast of Tamarindo, Costa Rica. We did a 2 tank dive with Be Water Diving ( a terrific dive company. Tamarindo does not have very many dive companies, so it's important to do your research when choosing one, and Be Water Diving is one I'd go with any time I'm there!
The water temperature cools off quite a bit at 10 m, so they provide 3 mm full body wetsuits to ensure comfort and warmth, in addition to all other needed dive gear, and snacks in between dives.
Each dive was just over 45 minutes, during which time we saw a pleasantly surprising abundance of ocean life. This included white tip reef sharks, moray eels, octopus, and more!
While the Pacific side of Costa Rica is not hugely known for diving (outside Cocos Island and areas where bull/hammerhead sharks are the main attraction), it's certainly worth taking a moment of your trip to Tamarindo to go explore, and who knows, you might encounter something really sweet! We hear great stories of encounters with large turtles, manta rays, whale sharks, and so much more!

Caño Island has some of the most diverse marine life in the world. If you do travel to Costa Rica this is a must-see. Whether you Scuba Dive, snorkel, or just take a boat trip out to the small island off the mainland definitely check this area out. We saw many reef sharks, eels, octopus, turtles and a wide range of fish.

It's been a month since our first trip to #Cano #Island and I still dream of fish.
Nowdays, this little island in the Pacific Ocean is a biological reserve to preserve #coral #reefs.
Long ago, it was used as a #cemetery. It is also believed that in the past the #island was set as a base for the pre-columbian communities that guarded the #enigma of amazing #stone #spheres of #Costa #Rica.

COSTA RICA | Las Catalinas Islands SCUBA Dive
We went scuba diving in Costa Rica on the Pacific Coast in the area of Las Catalinas Islands. It's about an hour drive north of the tourist town Tamarindo. We saw a family of Reef Sharks, some sort of ray, an octopus and a huge school of fish! Not the best visibility sadly. On the list of dives I'd say the reef sharks made this one a 7/10 for me, otherwise it would have maybe been about 5/10. The boat ride out to the dive spot was super super beautiful though....maybe almost better than the dive itself.
