Should You Move To Canada During The Cost Of Living Crisis? | Rent, Transport + Groceries

After being abroad for most of the year, I was SHOCKED when I returned back to Canada and saw just how much prices have rose since I was gone. Real Estate is obviously the worst culprit in the cost of living crisis, but regular expenses like transport, groceries, going out to eat, have all increased substantially in the last couple of years. While Canada's immigration numbers have definitely increased and the countries population is now at 40 million, there is a large group of new immigrants who have chosen not to stay and either return to their home countries or another destination instead. A large reason to this has been the high cost of living, as well as a lack of high paying jobs. So if you are thinking of immigrating to Canada any time soon, I hope you will find this video helpful in going over what might be the best province for you to live in, as well as what you can expect as the average monthly expenses.

Toronto IS expensive! And this is a complete breakdown of how much I spend in a month living in Toronto as a couple. I am a 28 years old new Indian immigrant in Canada who moved from Australia to Canada last year and I make videos about life in Canada as well as life in Toronto and to say the least, Toronto is not a cheap place to live.

I live in a downtown Toronto condo and work at a medium pay job in Toronto downtown as well. Cost of living in Toronto is high and as a young working couple, I am sharing how much I spend in a month so you can know how much salary you need to make so that you have a decent downtown Toronto living because Toronto life is anything but cheap.

If you are thinking that Vancouver is expensive, then think again. I would to do a Vancouver vs Toronto if I had lived in Vancouver but hope this gives you an idea about how much money you need to live in Toronto?

And are you still thinking does Toronto have a high cost of living?

Cost Of Living In Canada: Your 2023 Guide

Here's a full breakdown of what average salaries and the cost of living in Canada look like going into 2023

00:00 Intro
00:19 How Expensive is Canada in comparison to other countries?
00:57 What are the Most Expensive and Cheapest Major Cities/Provinces?
01:38 How Expensive are Housing and Accommodation in Canada?
02:14 How Much Does Education Cost?
02:35 Learn More about Canada

Are you planning to move to Canada but don’t know if you can afford to? In this video, we will
explore the cost of living in Canada in 2023, so we can arm you with the knowledge to make an informed decision regarding how to plan your move.

Chapter 1: How Expensive is Canada in comparison to other countries?

Canada, like most major economies with a high standard of living, is quite costly. However, compared to other sovereign economies like the USA or Australia, the cost of living is relatively cheaper and affordable. For example, the average monthly expenses for a family of four is 4,637.94 CAD and 4,877.01 CAD in Australia and the USA, respectively. This contrasts with Canada, where the same expense will only set you back 4,388.86 CAD.

Chapter 2: What are the Most Expensive and Cheapest Major Cities/Provinces?

Canadian cities, while offering a high standard of living, tend to differ a lot with regard to their affordability, a consequence of the large and varied topography of the country, which led to different socio-economic conditions. By and large, the biggest cities tend to be the most expensive. According to Numbeo.com, Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary have an average cost of living per person of 1,366.83 CAD, while smaller cities and towns such as Sherbrooke, London and Winnipeg have an average cost of living per person of 987 CAD.

Chapter 3: How Expensive are Housing and Accommodation in Canada?

Living costs, like housing, accommodation, transportation and healthcare are comparatively cheap in Canada compared to either Australia or the USA. However, to offset these costs you should apply for permanent residency when considering a move, as many amenities and services are free of charge to Canadian Permanent Residents. You can obtain permanent residency by receiving an ITA, via a number of different immigration routes. Speak to an RCIC to find out which the best path would be for you to take.

Chapter 4: How Much Does Education Cost?

For Canadian citizens and permanent residents, education is heavily subsidized through taxes by the Canadian government. However, you may have to contribute towards your tuition fees in certain fields, especially in tertiary education where admission standards are high and availability is low.

Cost Of Living In Canada In 2022 + Expensive And Cheaper Provinces

Living In Canada/cost.

Potential immigrants have always wondered what the cost of living in Canada will be like. Knowing about the standard of living in Canada is a proactive measure that everyone who is considering immigration needs to take to prepare financially especially as tariffs, costs, and standards of economy vary largely from country to country.

The basic things that attract costs most in Canada are rent, tax, transportation, and buying of groceries or other provisions. Most other basic needs such as healthcare and education are funded to a major extent by the Canadian government.

For example, the Canadian government provides free education for all children who are below 18 years of age and also covers some of the basic health care services citizens and residents need.

Except you will want to pay for private education for your children or get additional insurances, the cost of living in Canada per month for a start is still fairly affordable.

If you are just coming into Canada, one of the things that will affect how much of your initial income you spend is the exchange rate of the currency of your country of departure with that of Canada.

If the currency of your current location has a lower value than that of the Canadian dollars, then, your purse will be greatly affected for the first few weeks or until you begin to earn in Canadian dollars.

If you have any questions, please leave them on the comments section.

How Expensive Is Toronto: Renting in the Best City on Earth | Cost of Living in Toronto, Canada |

Renting in the Best City in the World. World-Class City Toronto is one of the best cities on earth to live and always stays in the top ten best cities in the world. Whether you look at Mercer Quality of Living Survey, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Cities of Opportunity report, Economist Intelligence Unit, and a dozen other reports, Toronto is one of the most liveable cities in the world. Another recent report published by RentCafe mentions that Toronto is 13th out of the 30 top financial centres in the world, but it only has the highest 26th rent among top 30 cities. So whether you compare Toronto to the other top cities on earth or other global financial centres, many feel rent in Toronto is still a bargain. In this video, I will show you three 1 bed room rental apartments/condos in Toronto in different locations and you can draw your own conclusions whether rents are expensive, cheap, or reasonable in Toronto.
