The Comoros. Everyday life in a small village. Traditional comorean beauty mask and marriage dress.

#Comores #TravelDocumentary

After long walk all over the vanilla and ylang ylang plantation we came to the small village Paje to learn about simple everyday life in the Comoros islands. We helped Maketses brother to replace a roof with some palm leaves. Tali tried traditional sandalwood beauty mask, which helps to protect the skin from the sun in East Africa. We visited a very famous tailor to dress up with a traditional marriage dress.

Anjouan, Comoros

March 21, 2019. Short flight from Moroni, Grande Comore to Anjouan, Comoros with AB Aviation. The highlight of the trip was to find yilang-yilang tree that produces incredible aromatic flower the essential oil of it which used in French perfumes, famously Chanel. It smells damn good, and you can identify Chanel smell from it.

A Tourists Guide to Moroni, Comoros!

I fly into Moroni, the capital of the Comoros. Unlike the Seychelles, Maldives and Mauritius, this Indian Ocean nation sees very little tourism and is one of the poorest countries on Earth.

I stay in the lush surroundings of the Istandra Beach Hotel, but take a tour of the Island's sights, including the old capital, Iconi, a wander through the markets of Moroni, and stop by a beach to watch some fishermen out in the surf. A most memorable trip.

comoros

A holiday with a difference. Supposed to be a three island vacation, but as the islands only large aircraft went in for service, the only option was a ferry that only joined two of the islands. Poor infrastructure and hotels without water in the pools, etc

QAMARVAN, AZERBAIJAN - Welcome to Qamarvan, a small village in the mountains of Azerbaijan and home to Tavakkul from @WILDERNESSCOOKING. They make amazing nature oriented food videos cooking outdoors. And today Tavakkul is cooking a whole lamb two ways - part is on a hot stone over fire and with the ribs he’s cooking them in a tandir. It’s going to be an incredible day of some of the best lamb on earth! #Azerbaijan #Food #ExperienceAzerbaijan

Thank you to:

Adnan:

Qamarvan is a beautiful location, set in a valley surrounded by some of the highest mountains in Azerbaijan. It’s green, lush, and home to some of the best lambs that graze naturally and organic food. Wilderness Cooking is an outdoor cooking show that specializes in natural foods, organic cooking and oftentimes whole animals. What I love about this is how therapeutic their cooking is. Nothing is rushed and the sounds are kept natural.

Today, Tavakkul is cooking a whole lamb as fresh as possible. He has a number of amazing cooking techniques around the yard and today he’s cooking half the lamb on a fire hot stone and the other goes into the mud tandir oven. He seasoned the meat with salt and pepper. For the hot stone the trick was the amount of lamb fat he melted down to almost confit the lamb in its own dripping fat. For the tandir lamb, it was cooked then basted with sour plum sauce. Let me tell you, not only does Tavakkul’s cooking look good, but it’s insanely tasty. Everything is saturated with as much lamb fat as possible giving it the maximum amount of flavor.

It was an incredible day, the food was delicious, and the Azerbaijani hospitality was even better.

Tavakkul does have a restaurant in Qamarvan that’s call Qaya Restaurant that you can definitely check out when you’re in the area to get some amazing local Azerbaijani food.

Thank you again to Adnan from reAzerbaijan for arranging my trip to Azerbaijan:

Street Food in Côte d’Ivoire!! ???????? Insane VERTICAL BBQ in Abidjan (West Africa)!!

12 hour Ivorian street food tour in West Africa!
???? T-shirts:
???? Ghost Chili:

ABIDJAN, COTE D’IVOIRE - Welcome to the beautiful country of Côte d’Ivoire (also known as Ivory Coast), in the heart of West Africa. Abidjan is the biggest city, and home to some incredibly tasty street bbq - including a unique vertical bbq and some of Africa’s fastest BBQ! Today we’re going on a full Ivorian street food tour!

A huge thank you to my friend Mo Soumahoro from Belle Côte d’Ivoire ( for arranging my trip and setting up everything!

1. Breakfast - we started early in the morning and headed for a rare dish of steamed corn with thick sour milk porridge. It was unique and very hearty in the morning.

2. Plakali - One of the most beloved Ivorian foods is plakali, a thick stew of crabs and seafood with cow skin and okra. It’s a dish with so many components and texture and absolutely incredible.

3. Fried snacks - When you’re in Côte d’Ivoire you don’t want to miss all the delicious fried snack you’ll find all over Abidjan. It was awesome to hang out with Yasmine Fofana (

4. Pique chicken and fish and Ivorian choukouya - From this entire Abidjan street food tour, probably my favorite dish was the pique chicken and fish and the West African choukouya. The chicken and fish were skewered then marinated in spices and pepper then grilled in a sandbox - vertical bbq style. It kept the meat juicy and full of flavor. They also made delicious choukouya, where the chicken is first grilled, chopped, and mixed with onions and seasoning. It’s absolutely amazing.

5. Market + sandwich - Next up we continued on this West African street food tour at the market to see some local ingredients, and a tasty onion and egg sandwich.

6. Brochette and bread - Another classic Abidjan street food is grilled small skewers of meat stuffed into French bread with kankankan. It’s one of the fastest grilling techniques I’ve seen, and unbelievably tasty.

7, Grilled meat ending - Finally we had one more stop to eat more grilled meat, choukouya. Can’t get enough!

Madagascar: A Country Full Of Breathtaking Nature | Somewhere On Earth

Madagascar is one of the worlds largest islands, red from the colour of the earth, and full of tropical life. We meet Elysee a botany student with a fascination for her country’s national tree: the baobab. Soloda is a vaso, which is a group of nomadic coastal inhabitants who lives in an isolated village on the Mozambique channel. And Gil, a Frenchman has lived on the island for over 20 years, and has made his home in the foothills of the mountains working on reforesting the valley where he lives.

Unbelievable Moroccan Food!! ???????? STUFFED PIGEONS + Medfouna! | Morocco, North Africa

???????? Best Moroccan Food in Rabat:
???? Ghost Chili:
???? T-shirts:

RISSANI, MOROCCO - Welcome to the Sahara desert of Morocco, home to incredible people, culture, and unique food. Today we’re going on a Sahara Moroccan food tour to eat some of the most prized regional delicacies.

A huge thank you to Moroccan Food Tour ( for arranging my trip to Morocco!

Family home lunch - First we were invited to a local family home to prepare a delicacy of stuffed pigeons, filled with a mixture of scrambled eggs, kofta, and spices. The pigeons were roasted in the oven until golden crispy. I couldn’t believe how tasty they were - one of the best and most unique meals in Morocco!

Rissani Bazaar - Rissani is a small but bustling town when it’s market day, and we arrived prime time to see all the action. We headed into the bazaar to buy meat and spices to make a food speciality called medfouna - which is a Moroccan stuffed flatbread filled with meat, spices, and nuts. We took the meat mixture to the baker where they prepared this incredible delicacy.

After drinking some fresh camel milk, and taking an ATV ride we then headed to make another style, but more traditional medfouna baked in the sand. He added almost the same meat filling as the first, and then flattened it out and covered it in hot sand. A few minutes later, it came out - slightly burned - but after taking off the char, it was perfectly cooked, gooey on the inside and meaty on the inside.

It was an incredible day of food and fun in the Sahara desert in Morocco!

Thank you again to Mohamed and the entire team from Moroccan Food Tours ( for arranging this amazing experience!

A New Blue Economy For Islands [Virtual Island Summit]

Many prefer the term “Big Ocean State” to the more common “Small Island State”. And rightfully so: on average island states have jurisdiction over 80x more ocean than land mass. As islands face their challenges – be it economic, social, environmental – a huge opportunity lies in tapping into the benefits that the Sustainable Blue Economy brings. It is the key to building resilient futures for islands.

But our ocean is in trouble… fish stocks are over-exploited; warming seas are destroying coral reefs; 100 million sharks are killed each year just for their fins; acidification and deoxygenation continue to rise; and there seems no end to marine plastic pollution. So to ensure island states benefit from the Sustainable Blue Economy – be it through tourism, fishery, energy or other related sectors – firstly all countries need to embrace the principle of sustainability and include a healthy ocean in their national plans. Meanwhile, Big Ocean States will continue to lead the way as they more directly bear the brunt of an unhealthy ocean, but also more directly reap the potential benefits.

In the face of these challenges, this panel explores the opportunities that a sustainable Blue Economy can bring to islands – based on practical examples – and will consider key steps needed to get there.

Speakers:
•DANIEL HUNG 洪棟霖, Director at Penghu County Government, Taiwan
•TARA CARROLL, Owner, Cove Cool-out Restaurant & Bar
•ASIA WILLIAMS, Blue Economy Entrepreneur Consultant, at Branson Centre of Entrepreneurship
•TOURKI MOHAMED ALI, Youth Activist & Social Entrepreneur, Comoros Islands
•ARNO BOERSMA, Former Director of UNDP’s Center of Excellence for Small Island Developing States.

The Virtual Island Summit 2019 was a free and entirely online event designed to connect global islands to share their common experiences through a digital platform. Almost 5,000 islanders from 500 islands took part. Learn more:
