Checking out Chile: Traveling to Santiago, Viña del Mar & Valparaiso
Travel along as we check out Chile. We began our trip by visiting Santiago, the capital of Chile. We enjoyed the stunning Cerro San Cristobal, with panoramic views of the city. We then explored the beautiful parks and plazas of Santiago, including Plaza de Armas, where we admired the historical buildings. Finally, we visited the Museum of Memory and Human Rights, learning the humbling history of human rights violations under Pinochet and the country's inspiring move to democracy.
After a few days in Santiago, we took a road trip to the coast to visit the neighboring cities of Viña Del Mar and Valparaiso. Our first stop was Viña Del Mar, a popular beach town known for its beautiful ocean views and vibrant nightlife. We spent our time enjoying the beach and playing futbol, while also sampling a few Pisco Sours.
Next, we traveled to the colorful city of Valparaiso, famous for its street art and historic architecture. We spent the day wandering the steep, narrow streets and admiring the beautiful graffiti on the walls of the buildings. Our climb up the city's many stairs was rewarded with delicious empanadas and an afternoon ice cream.

Uncovering Valparaiso's Hidden Treasures | Chile Travel Vlog
In this video we explore the city of Valparaiso in Chile! This city is known as the jewel of the Pacific and is also home to Chiles legislative Congress and the headquarters of the Chilean navy.
Valparaiso is the second biggest city in Chile and one of the reasons we came to visit was to see the famous bohemian, artistic streets with great views overlooking the port and the Pacific ocean.
We start off by going straight up one of the famous 16 tiny funiculars in the city which is an experience in itself! Matt at the top by a completely different place to the streets below, this area is full of color, street art and views across the city.
We wander around and meet some friendly locals and find the best place for lunch with a view, if you’re visiting Valparaiso we highly recommend lunch at Cafe Turri it was such a great way to soak in the area and relax.
After lunch we explore more of the bohemian area and find ourselves following a trail of ants to a very unexpected but delightful location!
We finish the day down in Plaza Sotomayer after taking another of the 16 funiculars down. This square feels worlds away from the bohemian streets above that we’d spent the day exploring, Plaza Sotomayer is much busier and to be honest definitely didn’t feel as safe so you might notice we didn’t do too much filming once we got down there.
Valparaiso is so unique and is the kind of place you have to see to believe, we hope this video gives you a good taste of it!

By popular demand ever since the comments went Spanish the Chileans have asked me to travel there so this is a tour of Viña del Mar Chile. The Chilean city on the coast only a kilometer north from Valparaiso compact enough to walk around and see most of the city in a day. Within an hour I can tell why so many people love Vina del Mar and understand the appeal of this clean city on the sea shore. We walk to the corner of the city with the castle and the Vina clock made of flowers also called the reloj de flores. After we move to the city centre with green park and then walk back to the beach where the jetty with the crane is. Just before sunset I head up to the viewpoint on the motorcycle to watch the sunset behind Viña del Mar. The sky turns orange on the waterfront of this Chilean city on the coast and the sun sets behind Valparaiso. Damaged the bike a bit while riding off with the disk lock still on but other than that it was a great day sightseeing in Viña and I can imagine that life in this city can be good. Though traffic was absolute murder in the evening.

After an early morning picking up from the hotel, we went to the Casablanca Valley Vineyards, one of the wine capitals of the world. You can follow the wine making process and also sample some Chilean wine. First stop of Santiago Chile to Valparaiso Tour is Casablanca Valley Vineyards.
Valparaiso, known by the locals as Valpo, is a UNESCO World Heritage site. You will explore many graffiti and street art on the narrow colored streets among small and brightly painted houses and learn the stories behind them. You will be amazed by the colorful hills of the historic port city of Valparaiso, and have a chance to ride the oldest funiculars of the city.
Plaza Sotomayor is home to the Chilean Navy Headquarters and the monument to the Heroes of the Pacific War. Valparaiso day trip ends here.
Your next stop is Viña del Mar, known as the garden city. Valparaiso and Vina del mar are too closed to echother.
Stroll along the beach to observe sea lions and pelicans.
Moai was brought in 1951 from Easter Island. It is now part of the collection of the Fonck museum.

We've deemed this metropolitan the L.A. of Chile, with palm tree lined streets, yoga studios and vegan food options! This diverse city packs in a killer boardwalk, beach and even some crazy sand dunes perfect for capturing the sunset.
Want to visit Viña? We highly recommend Street Garden Hostel for a chill outdoor patio and the BEST free breakfast we've had so far.

We don't eat out much, but we did enjoy two really delicious FAIRLY PRICED meals we think are worth checking out:

One last recommendation! If you're pale like us (or at least one of us anyways), the strong sun in Chile is your worst enemy. Stay cool and unburnt with this AMAZING towel my mom got us for Christmas. It's literally saved my life on this trip:
