Chambathu Veedu or Chambathu House near Chittur in Palakkad district of Kerala, India, is an age old and historically significant building. Once the abode of the rulers of the then native states, the Chambathu family now has around 188 members. It is believed that Thunchathu Ramanujan Ezhuthachan, the father of Malayalam language, on his way back from a sojourn in Tamilnadu halted at this place and was overwhelmed by its scenic beauty and asked some land from Chambathu family.

A documentary by the students of SCMS School of Architecture as a part of the settlement study about Thekkegramam, Chittur, Palakkad, Kerala, India.
Geographically located about 15 kms south, away from Palakkad town, the legend has it that about 450 years ago, Sri Thunjath Ramanujan arrived at this village on the northern bank of a beautiful river. He spent his final days here and translated ancient epics like the Ramayana, Mahabharata and Bhagavata in simple ‘kilippattu’ form in Malayalam.
The village encapsulates a niche for every linguistic community that lives in there. The culture that one observes here, is of a melange of many ethnicities. Thekkegramam and the whole of Chittur showcases a variety of linguistic secularism.
The documentary talks about the history, culture, festivals, the streets and houses and the life of the people of the village in depth.

The Konganpada festival at Chittur is a fusion of myths, history and religion. Spread over a couple of days, the festival commemorates a war which is said to have occurred around AD 918. During those days, Chittur was a very fertile land, plush with resources. It was also a trade hub. People from across the mountains, especially the Kongu country, which includes parts of the present-day Coimbatore District used frequent Chittur for trade. Skirmishes were normal. And these skirmishes form the roots of the present day Konganpada festival. Once, the king of Kongu country decided to attack Chittur and sent an ultimatum. The people of Chittur were scared and approached the Mother Goddess at the temple in Chittur and it is said she agreed to lead the Nair warriors in the war. And unlike the wars of today, the Kongu King stuck to the rituals of war, which is reenacted zealously by the devotees. The first ritual is the 'Chilambu' where the Nair chieftains
