Santiago De Chile Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Santiago de Chile.
Santiago De Chile, the capital of Chile, is dignified, modest and European-looking and also lively, modern and full of Latin temperament, a city that has many green areas and a history that covers five hundred years. The Plaza De Armas is the heart of the city and the historic centre of colonial Santiago that contains the city’s most important buildings. The Museo Histórico Nacional is located in the Palacio Real Audiencia. It contains around twelve thousand exhibits that feature Chile’s history from pre-Columbian times right up to the twentieth century. Strikingly dressed in black and white uniforms and brown caps, the soldiers of the guard march across the Plaza De La Constitution towards the La Moneda Palace, an elongated, strictly classical building whose white façade looks almost kitsch with the blue sky as its backdrop. Following restoration work, General Augusto Pinochet moved in and it has been the seat of government ever since. Dictatorship transformed into democracy! The Parque Forestal is situated on the northern edge of the city centre along the Rio Mapocho, a park complex with various varieties of tree. Amid all the green is the German Fountain with, at its centre, a ship with heroic figures and huge birds of prey. Today, the city is looking good and although with colonial roots, Santiago De Chile is now open-minded, modern and cosmopolitan.

Chile - Santiago - City tour part 1 - South America, part 73 - Travel video - HD

Founded on February 14, 1541 by Pedro de Valdivia at the base of Cerro Santa Lucia along the bank of the muddy Mapocho river, Santiago was nearly destroyed by Mapuche Indians six months later. It was rebuilt over the years, surviving floods, earthquakes, wars and more natural calamities and is now one of the largest cities of South America. Santiago is Chile's cultural, commercial, industrial and political center.
Santiago is a cosmopolitan city, with ample restaurants, bars, hotels, shopping from tiny boutique and craft fair to giant shopping mall. There are cultural attractions such as art galleries, museums, theaters, opera and ballet, lively nightlife, plus parks, tree-lined streets and distinct neighborhoods. You'll see brand new high rises and large supermarkets next to old, shabby buildings. You'll have to fend off vendors and peddlers on the busses, but ride in peace and comfort on the subway system.

Chile - Santiago - City tour part 2 - South America, part 74 - Travel video - HD

Santiago is the capital and economic centre of Chile. With its many museums, events, theaters, restaurants, bars and other entertainment and cultural opportunities, it is also the political and cultural center of the country. Its central location in the country makes it a great base for visiting other areas, and it is possible to ski in the nearby Andes and later be on the beach, all in the same day.

Chile - Santiago - City tour part 3 - South America, part 75 - Travel video - HD

On a clear day, fresh after winter showers, Santiago basks in one of the most spectacular settings of any city in the world. A glance through the downtown blocks reveals a mighty circle of mountains - the snowcapped Andean peaks to the east, and a smaller coastal range to the west - that frames the Chilean capital.

Recorded March 2, 2009.

Santiago, is the capital and largest city of Chile. It is located in the country's central valley, at an elevation of 1700 feet). Although Santiago is the capital, legislative bodies meet in nearby Valparaíso. Approximately two decades of uninterrupted economic growth have transformed Santiago into one of Latin America's most modern metropolitan areas. Santiago, according to an estimate from 2009, has a population of 7 million people.

The video begins at my hotel, the San Cristobal Tower and then continues at the nearby funicular where I ascend the mountain for a nice view of the city. Next we drive through the city center and make a stop at the Plaza Libertad de Prensa.

Brazil - Iguassu Falls,Brazilian side 1 - South America Part 13 - Travel Video HD

Trip to South America
Iguassu Falls, or Iguaçu Falls are waterfalls of the Iguazu River located on the border of the Brazilian State of Paraná and the Argentine Province of Misiones. The falls divide the river into the upper and lower Iguazu. The Iguazu River originates near the city of Curitiba. It flows through Brazil for most of its course. Below its confluence with the San Antonio River, the Iguazu River forms the boundary between Brazil and Argentina.
The name Iguazu comes from the Guarani or Tupi words, meaning water, and ûasú [waˈsu], meaning big. Legend has it that a god planned to marry a beautiful woman named Naipí, who fled with her mortal lover Tarobá in a canoe. In rage the god sliced the river, creating the waterfalls and condemning the lovers to an eternal fall. The first European to find the falls was the Spanish conquistador Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca in 1541.
