Food info:
1) Khad Lam (Slow Cooked Underground Lamb):

Khad lamb (means cooking lamb in a pit in the ground)
Earlier soldiers didn’t want to leave any trace of smoke so that they can hide hence discovered this way of cooking.
Earlier it was rabbit meat but now since it banned so we are cooking lamb.

Making of garam masala- Roast all the following ingredients and pound it together: green cardamom, black pepper, cloves, coriander seeds, black cardamom, turmeric, bay leaves and caramelized onion powder.

Basic marination- Make cuts on the leg of the lamb and put minced garlic with lots of freshly prepared garam masala.

Next for the paste-mix red chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric, salt and lots of ghee.

Add this paste to the basic marination with a base of rotis and banana leaves. Cover it with a wet jute sack so that it doesn’t burn as it needs to be in direct contact with the fire for 2 hours in the pit.

2) Junglee Mass (Wild meat)
Five Ingredients Recipe-
If hunting, you get stranded, these are easily available in any village
Red chilli powder, Ghee, Salt, Dal or lentil, Coriander seeds, Lamb pieces. In a wok, combine everything together till the meat is soft and tender.

» THE MOUNTAIN GOAT

For this fun food adventure, we were invited to enjoy a home cooked meal by a local Ninh Binh family. Ninh Binh mountain goat is a local specialty that you can find offered in many different restaurants. Each restaurant offer their own secret recipe, so no dish is quite the same. The goat meat in Ninh Binh is known for being firm and aromatic, without much fat. It is said that due to Ninh Binh’s rocky mountains, the goats are more active and eat more herbs than in many other areas, which is why the meat is less fatty.

????The goat is stuffed with spices including Vietnamese curry leaves, ginger, galangal and lemongrass. Goat intestine, blood and throat are added over grilled shallots. Fig fruit, star fruit, young banana and carrot are an optional part of this dish.

????PRICE: 21.43 USD/500,000 VND per kg cooked meat | 8.57 USD/200,000 VND per kg raw meat

About This Episode:
Today, I'm heading down to Saigon's illegal floating market. These people seem nice enough, but what are they really selling there. I use my training as a fake investigative youtube journalist to get to the bottom of why these people are operating illegally and what can be done about it.

About Sonny Side:
I’m not sponsored. I’m not rich. I’m just some guy who wanted to make the type of travel videos that I would want to see. This show is completely self-funded so thanks for patiently watching that five second advertisement (and read below how you can support this channel).

I am a video director by trade. Each time I travel to a new country I bring a cameraman with me, usually a friend, to shoot as many episodes as possible in a short amount of time (usually a week). The rest of the time I’m working as a video director/videographer in Vietnam and editing the crap out of these videos.

Much love and remember, Don't Think, Just Chew.

» THE EXOTIC FOODS

1. TALAD KAO MARKET: Mrs. Pan’s Bug Cart
ADDRESS: Soi Lat Krabang 5, Lat Krabang, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10520
OPEN: 2PM - 10PM

????The night before Mrs. Pan cooks the bugs she will later sell in the market, her son goes to Khlong Toei, Bangkok’s largest wet market, to purchase a variety of insects. She begins cooking each morning in order to make it to the market and set up her cart by 2pm. To cook the bugs, Mrs. Pan first adds oil and chopped pandan leaves to a frying pan. The pandan leaves add a nice fragrance to the bugs while cutting the bitter taste. She adds her first round of bugs and allows them to fry for roughly 30 minutes. She allows the crickets to cook for only 15 minutes. To enhance the flavors, she does not clean the pan between bugs. Then she’s off to the market, to fill hungry bellies with bugs!

????PRICE: 1.50 USD/50 THB for Mixed Bowl of Bugs
1.20 USD/40 THB for Giant Water Bug

2. TOY KUAY TEOW: Boat Noodles (Blood Noodle Soup)
ADDRESS: 15 Ratchawithi Rd, Khwaeng Thung Phaya Thai, Khet Ratchathewi, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon
OPEN: 8AM - 6PM

????Toy Kuay Teow has been serving up boat noodles for 50 years and is on its third generation. To make one of Bangkok’s most beloved noodle soups, combine chilli dressing, pork, meatballs, vermicelli noodles, pork blood, pork soup, scallions and herbs, bok choy, fried pork skin and fried flat noodles (optional). Beef boat noodles include beef blood, rather than pork blood.

????PRICE: .46 USD/15 THB for a small bowl
.91 USD/30 THB for a normal bowl

3. J'KHAI SEAFOOD: Horseshoe Crab Eggs
ADDRESS: 1300/3-4 Prachachuen Road, Bangsue Bangkok
OPEN: 3PM - 12AM

J’Khai Seafood started when the owner began selling food from a small cart 34 years ago. It is now a multi-story restaurant in Bangkok, and their signature “Thai curry steamed horseshoe crab eggs” recently won Wongnai Users’ Choice for best dish.

????To make this tasty meal, they first steam the horseshoe crab, cutting open the lower part of the crab to remove all of the eggs. Separately, create the seasoning, mixing Thai red curry paste, sugar, MSG, oyster sauce and carnation milk. Add the seasoning to an oiled, heated pan before adding chicken egg and finger root. Allow to stir-fry for a bit, then scoop everything back into the horseshoe crab shell. Take the horseshoe crab and grill it over hot charcoal until bubbling. Top it off with coconut milk, sliced lime leaves and carrots before diving in.

????PRICE: 15 USD/500 THB per Horseshoe Crab (may vary)

AMAZING MEKONG DELTA (A DAY TOUR WITH GINKGO) | TRAVEL VLOG

GET MY FREE GUIDE TO LOCATION INDEPENDENCE

Today we take a break for working in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam to check out the Mekong Delta, the beautiful area around the Mekong River, just an hour outside of Saigon.

I definitely recommend Gingko Voyage to anyone looking for a tour in South Vietnam. We had an amazing time and it was definitely the highlight of our whole Vietnam experience.

A DELICIOUS MEKONG DELTA FEAST

Vi Bi from Onetrip takes Sonny from the Best Ever Food Review Show to the Mekong Delta for an episode that has too much going on! Climbing coconut trees, making coconut candies, frying and eating elephant ear fish... and that’s only half of it. Stay tuned for the next episode in the Mekong series because we couldn’t cram it all into one!
