A Leopard attacking a provocative photographer in the Maasai Mara National Reserve

A leopard attacking a provocative photographer in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya. This photographer, who either chose to ignore the park rules or just was not briefed correctly, risked his life as a leopard tried to grab his foot.

As you can clearly tell, this vicious leopard was not very impressed and would have harmed the photographer. Even through leopard attacking people is rare, this is not to mean that you should play around with an leopard while on a safari. In fact, the best thing a guide should do when any wildlife gets so close to a tourist vehicle is to move away.

The management of Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya has already banned the camp and the guides who allowed this photographer to get involved in the would-be unfortunate encounter with a leopard.

Wild Cheetah jumps onto safari vehicle!

Check this out!!! While running our recent 2-week photo safari in Kenya's Maasai Mara this year (our twelfth Kenyan photo safari), a wild Cheetah sauntered over and decided to jump on top of our vehicle to use it as a warm, sunny lookout vantage point (or perhaps protection, as a hyena was walking past at the same time), and then after a few minutes, it started curiously peeking inside at us! While this behaviour has apparently happened before, our driver guides and lodge managers said it's very rare, and they'd never seen such great video of it, including capturing the initial leap up! I should point out that unlike a leopard or lion, wild cheetahs pose no real threat to humans, and the only way this situation could have become dangerous is if the cheetah actually decided to curiously jump down inside the vehicle and then if our clients freaked out, then the cheetah might panic trying to get out - so everyone was instructed to just remain calm and not move if this happened.

We run luxury photography safaris all around the world to Alaska, Galapagos, Amazon, Patagonia, Tasmania, Kangaroo Island, Christmas Island etc, and in January and September each year, come with us to Kenya and photograph the best of African wildlife reserves, at the best time of year, from our own private safari vehicles, boats & planes - we even loan out a free 600mm f/4 lens, worth $16,000! All under the expert guidance of professional photographers helping you get the best shots. Check out our day-to-day itinerary, watch the safari promo video, and check dates on our website:

Four cheetah on the roof of a safari vehicle!

What do you do when four cheetahs mistake your safari vehicle for a termite mound? Close your roof and and windows for a start, and if that doesn't work, gently persuade them that it's time to find a new vantage point.

Shocking Moment a Cheetah Jumped on To Safari Bus and Refused To Move for Almost an Hour

Big cat sat on top of the safari car in Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya. Speedy predator stretched out and made himself comfortable on the Jeep. Tourists scream as the cheetah rises to his feet and turns away from them. Heart-stopping footage shows how holidaymakers were held up for almost an hour when a cheetah decided to perch on their safari truck in Africa. The three-minute clip shows the big cat approaching the open-topped safari vehicle in Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya, before disappearing from sight an then suddenly leaping up onto the roof, much to the astonishment of the tourists inside. As time passes, the super fast predator, who was initially sat upright on the Jeep, stretches out and makes himself comfortable. Speaking to one another, two tourists share their fear. A woman asks the camera man how he is feeling, to which he replies: 'Oh my god, my heart is going to beat out of my chest.' After 45 minutes, the tour guide decides to start the vehicle's engine in a bid to scare off the big cat. Reversing the vehicle, the tourists begin to scream as the predator rises to his feet and turns away from them. Stretching out, the cat angles his body down the front of the car, at which point the cameraman pleads: 'Don't spray us now'. After a few minutes, the cheetah leaps down from the safari vehicle, much to the relief of the travellers.

Cheetah Jumping up onto our Land Rover

Sammy from Rekero Safari Camp grabbed one of our point and shoots in order to capture a video of a cheetah jumping onto our Land rover during a safari outing. This was absolutely thrilling, scary and beautiful all at the same time. Thank you Sammy for having the presence of mind to capture such an exhilarating event.

Cheetah Jumps on Car

A Southern Destinations client filmed this while on safari in Kenya. It started out as a routine cheetah sighting, but then this happened...

Cheetah on a Car

The last day of our safari in Kenya we came across a cheetah sitting atop a safari vehicle.

A cheetah on your tank- Masai Mara!

Incredible experience on Safari in Masai Mara with Migration Kenya Safaris. The location was near the Mara River, in the Western end (not Eastern end, as is captioned) near the Olloolololo Gate of the Mara Conservancy area.

The excerpts of music are from the album Tchokola by Jean Luc Ponty. Brilliant music from Africa with this Wizard from France.
No copyright infringement intended; just sheer love for their music.
Bottle bop is the track that heralds the jump of the cheetah on the spare tires of the Land Rover.
Hope Jean Luc Ponty and his amazing musicians like the visual arrangement of their musical mesmerism. Buy Tchokola and experience life on a different plane

Thomson Safaris guests got quite a treat when a leopard, usually one of the more elusive members of Big 5, walked right past their vehicle.

Cheetah jumps on our car

This is a very special cheetah. Her name is Malaika which in Swahili means Angel.

The locals/rangers gave her this name as she has raised all of her cubs without losing 1, a serious accomplishment in the wild! Malaika is smart and has learned that jumping on Safari vans can give her a better vantage point from which to hunt from.

Unfortunately this is just another example of humans interfering with nature. In future generations Malaika's family may become too over dependent on human beings. As such when Malaika jumps on vans in the Mara it is important that the driver tries to nudge her off.

What an experience though!!!!

Cheetah on the Hood of Our 4x4; Masai Mara, Kenya

Across the triple crossing in the north western part of the park we came a cross a couple of cheetahs. The one was very curious about our filthy vehicle and began eating at the hood before he jumped on it. After being unable to get a foot hold he growled and jumped off.
