Sailing Little Bahama Bank | Freeport to Great Sale Cay [Ep 166]
Our sail from Freeport started off with surfing down some 6-7 foot steep waves which Cory has a blast doing. On the other hand I was feeding the fish. Fortunately we found shelter at Ginn Sur Mer near West End and along with SV Spirit Bird and SV Turned Out we dropped anchor. The following day despite the strong 25-30 knots Easterly wind we left our anchorage unaccompanied this time. As we rounded West End on Great Bahama Island we realized that the waves wouldn't be too bad. It was all about timing with high tide to navigate the shallow Indian Cut. This was our shortcut to the Little Bahama Bank which we had to cross to reach the Abacos. East winds made for an absurd amount of tacks and extra Nautical miles covered because that's exactly where we needed to go. We ended up setting anchor by Mangrove Cay for one night. The next day we stopped at Great Sale Cay and enjoyed it to ourselves.

We Got 9000 Boats As Neighbours - Ep. 166 RAN Sailing
For the first time in over a year we spend time at the beach :) We celebrate 4th of July and have 9000 boats as neighbours!
We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat Ran, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter in January 2016. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us.

Running like a MAD DOGS ???????? / Sailing Aquarius Ep. 166
We would love to spend more time in Pervezza and soak in its cool vibes but in about 4 days we suppose to meet our friends 350 NM away - so we go, but first - we will stop in Corfu - which is about 60 NM away and we should make it there in time for dinner.
Again - no wind, which is not the ideal case but at least the wind is not against us. So we will take what we get and as any sailor knows - planning exact dates further distance away - we are in the grace of the wind Gods.
Will we make it to Corfu, or even bigger question - will we be able to get to Croatia, Korcula in time to see our friends?

Adulting for the WIN, Calico Skies Sailing Ep. 166
This episode opens with a dinghy ride at sunset. We are driving, then cutting the engine to float and observe the very well camouflaged coyotes on the beach. It's a peaceful evening at dusk and we are in our element enjoying nature together surrounded by stunningly beautiful red cliffs.
The next day we're sailing off to our final anchorage in the Sea of Cortez, flying our Spinnakers and joined by buddy boats sv Delos and sv OneLife. We get some awesome drone footage of the fleet with our kites up before dropping the hook and heading to the beach for some late afternoon fun of the adult summer camp variety ????.
Brooke and Gary have planned some games for us - three to be exact- involving paddle boarding, hopping and limbo-ing with lots of shots taken in between. The group gets competitive as the teams move through each event, in the end there's a win for each of us. After a dip to cool off and rest Gary the Penguin hands out prizes and I'm (Grace) stoked to receive a fresh baked plate of brownies while Bill's severely dwindling beer supplies gets graciously replenished by our sweet friends.
The fun doesn't stop at the beach and later that evening we're hanging out on sv One Life where we've gathered to enjoy dinner and drinks. We've decided to dress up for the special occasion since 99% of the time we spend together is spent in bathing suits or sweaty beach wear!
After an amazing snorkel the following day we set off on an overnight passage headed north up the Sea of Cortez. We will always remember this last dive together as we're joined by a small school of tiny little yellow fish who follow us closely as we swim. Now, the 24 hour sail we're on will take us to our haul out spot in Penasco where we will lift Calico Skies from the water and put her on the hard for a what will become months of boat work. It's the end of one chapter and the beginning of another with bittersweet and contemplative overtones closing out this final episode in our 'Sea of Cortez' series.

Installing - the head/bathroom sink and tap/faucet and the cabinet shelf supports/battens; fit a rubber strip on top of the painted steel engine bed to prevent engine box wear there; I chisel notch and epoxy coat for the cabinet hinges; the shelf supports get sanded, edged, epoxy coated and pre-drilled; and the Penultimate batch of X10 panels get Epoxy Undercoated and Polyurethane Top-coated! ????
Mistress is designed by one of the highly respected Dutch naval architects E.G. Van de Stadt, a Caribbean design, length 40ft/12m, beam 13ft/3.9m, draft 5ft/1.5m. Her hull and decks are built in mild steel and I have built her on my own and am also fitting her out on my own. I have not built any type of boat before Mistress.
