Habous district was built during the French colonial period, it is a destination for researchers and intellectuals. There are major libraries belonging to the most famous Moroccan and Arab publishing houses. Its traditional and historical buildings have made it one of the most famous neighborhoods in the economic capital of Morocco, and a pilgrimage site for tourists.
Location
The Al-Ahbas (Habous or Houbouss) neighborhood is located near the Royal Palace in the heart of Casablanca. It is one of the old neighborhoods of the city, described by some as the second old city of Casablanca after the ancient city of Bab Marrakesh.
History
The history of the neighborhood dates back to 1917 when Morocco was under the French protectorate. French architects designed it according to Arab and Islamic architecture, similar to the architecture in Fez, Marrakesh and others. The Al-Ahbas Foundation, affiliated to the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, ensured its construction during ten years on a land estimated at four hectares.
It was said that one of the Moroccan Jews gave this land to Sultan Moulay Youssef in order to get close to him, but the Sultan locked it up, and allocated it to build a residential neighborhood, a mosque and some facilities associated with it, and that is why it was called the Al-Ahbas neighborhood or the Habous.
It absorbed a number of citizens who used to live in the tin neighborhoods, and others who came to the city from other cities to work. In part, there are middle-class residents, especially craftsmen and artisans who immigrated to Casablanca at the beginning of the thirties of the last century.
Economy
The visitor to the Habous district feels that he enters a different place, replete with the smell of history. The shops in its markets display traditional products such as Moroccan carpets and old pottery pots, traditional clothes (robes and kaftans...) and wooden, silver and copper ornaments and artifacts. In addition, there are tailors and craftsmen's shops, cafes and restaurants, some of which serve traditional types of Moroccan cooking, such as dried meat, which is locally called khli' and tajine.
Al-Ahbas neighborhood is characterized by the abundance of arches, narrow twisting paths, arches, green spaces and paved alleys. There are many hotels in the neighborhood.

Casablanca is a port city and commercial hub in western Morocco, fronting the Atlantic Ocean. The city's French colonial legacy is seen in its downtown Mauresque architecture, a blend of Moorish style and European art deco. Standing partly over the water, the enormous Hassan II Mosque, completed in 1993, has a 210m minaret topped with lasers directed toward Mecca.

Ce mouvement migratoire est provoqué par la politique du Maréchal Lyautey qui tient à séparer les zones de résidences des Européens et celles des Marocains.
