CARTAGENA, COLOMBIA ????????| What to do, What to see, Where to Eat & TOURIST TRAPS

What are the best things to do in Cartagena?
What to see in Cartagena?

Is the ceviche as good as people say it is?

These are all great questions! Here's a to-the-point video on what we consider the best things to do in Cartagena. It's a breakdown of all the best places and things to do if you only have a handful of days there, and some tourist traps to watch out for!

It's easy to get overwhelmed with the abundance of options available so we put together what we did and loved (Nathan always does quite a bit of research before going).

Do's and Don'ts in Cartagena // Colombia Travel Vlog

There are so many do's and don'ts in Cartagena Colombia and in this video we share the biggest ones with you! Cartagena is one of Colombia's most popular travel destinations for both foreign and local tourists, and that also means it is full of scams that you will want to avoid. There will also be tons of awesome things you will want to do during your time in Cartagena because it is a beautiful coastal city!

Some of the don'ts that we suggest you avoid (unless you are ready to pay) are taking videos of the rappers on the streets, taking pictures of the women with baskets of fruit on their heads (Palenqueras), and not being firm with the people giving massages on the beach who will start massaging you without asking! You may have to be firm because these folks know how to make a buck, but that is all part of the travel experience :)

Some of the many do's of Cartagena include seeing San Felipe Castle in the morning, visiting the beaches (maybe Playa Blanca and the Rosario Islands are better choices than Bocagrande), grabbing a drink from a street cendor near Cafe del Mar, walking around Getsemani, and shopping in El Centro. Cartagena is a beautiful coastal town with lots to offer tourists, but we would suggest learning about the scams and tourist traps before your visit!

Tourist Scams - Cartagena, Colombia

Please Vote For Me : My Destination's Biggest Baddest Bucket List ends March 31st, 2013!
Here in this video I share with you a tourist scam I experienced in Cartagena, Colombia. Please keep in mind you can get scammed anywhere. I almost got scammed $500 in NYC, so it's not just because it happened in Colombia. I was with a few backpackers on Playa de las Americas, when people tried to charge us for even putting our towels on the beach. This is a scam because it's a public beach. The second scam is when people offer you to try or give you as a gift regalo some food. As soon as you try the food you will be charged. I was offered some lobster and oysters on this beach when I said No gracias several times. I finally accepted and then had to pay. It was only a few dollars I paid so it wasn't a big deal. Just keep in mind when you travel that food is rarely offered for free. I also share my experience buying some shrimp ceviche on the beach. Thank you for watching my travel journey. I hope you enjoyed this travel tip. Elaine Sarantakos, Fabulous Living Coach

How To Not Get Scammed In Colombia?! | Be Aware of Those Scams in Colombia | Real Talk Ep. 37

Thinking About Relocating To Medellin? Get to know the good, the bad and the ugly, of Medellin.
???? E- Guide ????

Let's talk about scams in Colombia. In this video, I'm going to focus on the scams that I heard and people experienced the most.

The scams also can be varied from city to city. Take Cartagena for instance, it is surely a city that is notorious for scams compared to other Colombian cities. The strategies may be different but at the end of the day, they're all scams.

Let's take a look into the scams we heard about from friends or that actually happened to us.

Gringo Prices
Yes, it exists even though there are people denying it. Gringo prices is a thing that doesn't only concern foreigners in Colombia but pretty much in all Latin America depending on where you are it happens more often.

Gringo Pricing is when someone charges you more because you are a foreigner. That usually only happens when you buy stuff on the streets. It doesn't happen in a regular grocery store but everywhere you don't have fixed prices could have the potential.

The granny is sick, the pet needs surgery, the phone is about to die
That mostly happens to single men that are dating here. The date asks you for money pretty much at the beginning, maybe after the first date, maybe even before it.
Usually, they make it seem urgent and make you feel responsible for whatever they pretend to need money for.

Most things come down to common sense if you have met a girl the first time, and she asks you to pay a $2000 hospital bill for her grandmother. She most probably is a scam.

Taxi takes a longer route
It can happen that especially when you don't know the right way to the destination you're heading to, that a taxi driver might take advantage of your cluelessness. He may make some unnecessary turns, take a street that takes longer or just drives in circles in order to get more money,

I just mentioned 3 examples of the scams that might occur to you in Colombia, if you want to know the rest of it I suggest to watch the whole video.

Is Cartagena Dangerous? And Nightlife

Is Cartagena dangerous, or is it just hype? I'm just a tourist, and not a Cartagena expert. I haven't been to every part of this massive city in Colombia. But I've spent about a week here, exploring this vibrant, colourful city and enjoying its food, beauty and culture. Join me today as I explore Getsemani, a hip part of the city.

Safety in Cartagena and Colombia has come a long way. If you ask me if it's dangerous or safe to travel here, I'd say, yes it's safe.

Personally I haven't felt this city was any more or less dangerous than any other part of Colombia I've been to. But I'm just a dumb Canadian backpacker so what do I know? I liked my time here and I think any tourist would as well.
