Walking in St. John's, Antigua - What to do on Your Day in Port

This is a quick video of our walk through the port of St. John's, Antigua. We were on a 7 day Southern Caribbean cruise on Royal Caribbean's Adventure of the Seas. Antigua is a beautiful island. In this video we walk up to St. John's Cathedral also known as the St. John the Divine, the Cathedral Church of the Diocese of North Eastern Caribbean and Aruba. It is an Anglican church perched on a hilltop in St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda. The present cathedral with its imposing white twin towers was built on a fossilized reef, in 1845, and is now in its third incarnation, as earthquakes in 1683 and in 1745 destroyed the previous structures. The iron gates on the south face of the church are flanked by pillars displaying lead Biblical figures of St John the Divine and St John the Baptist. They were taken by HMS Temple in 1756, from a French ship destined for Martinique.

Antigua is one of the 2 major islands that make up the Caribbean nation of Antigua and Barbuda. Ringed with coral reefs, the island is known for its many sandy beaches. Set along English Harbour, restored Nelson’s Dockyard, which Admiral Horatio Nelson made his base in the 1780s, includes a marina and the Dockyard Museum. Trails lead up to Shirley Heights, a former military lookout with panoramic views.

St John's Antigua Cruise Port Tour (4K)

Tour the Antigua Cruise Port Terminal area at St John's. We were on the MSC Divina cruise ship docked at the Heritage Quay terminal along with the Royal Caribbean Jewel of the Seas. If you are looking for things to do other than shopping- we took a short taxi ride to visit the nearby Fort James beach (see our video here: ), then walked around the port area, which included the historic Redcliff Quay Cruise Pier where the Seven Seas Explorer and the Pullmantur Zenith were docked.

There are plenty of nice views out towards the cruise ships. It is also a lively scene with local Antiguan performers singing, dancing, and even doing the Limbo while on fire, and spitting fire, lol.

There were a ton of shops & restaurants/bars at port including Diamonds International (surprise suprise), Fred's Belgian Waffles & Ice Cream, Big Banana, St Johns Antigua Harbour View Bar & Cafe plus much more. There was even a casino (King's Casino).

As an added bonus, we included our cruise ship sail-away from Antigua video- enjoy!

This was from our December 2017 cruise aboard the MSC Divina.

Fort James Beach Antigua DIY Excursion (4K)

It was easy to get a taxi at the St Johns Antigua cruise port to the nearby Fort James Beach. We did it during our December 2017 Caribbean cruise aboard the MSC Divina. It was $25 roundtrip- the driver dropped us off and then came back about 2 hours later to pick us up. The drive was about 15 minutes from the cruise terminal to the beach.

Fort James beach was quite nice. The beach was clean and it was certainly not overcrowded. You can even do horseback riding on the beach. This is certainly a do it yourself excursion that we recommend if you are visiting Antigua for the day on a cruise ship. We would rank it right up there with Dickenson Bay Beach, though Valley Church Beach was quite spectacular when we were there years ago.

ANTIGUA: Iconic Saturday market ????️ in ST. JOHN'S (Caribbean)

Antigua, Caribbean - the markets of St. John's in Antigua, the Caribbean. Let's go for a walk along Market Street in the capital of Antigua, the city of St. John's and let's witness the market that is taking place.
Markets have traditionally been central to life on the small islands of the Caribbean, so it shouldn't be a surprise that one visit to Antigua'a market in the city of St John's which could transport you back to a simpler time before impersonal supermarkets, processed foods, and GMO produce concerns.
At the Saturday market of St John's, mingle among stalls offering fresh fruits, vegetables, curative roots, local drinks, and more — all at proper prices. Looking to pick up something to take home? Right next door is the Craft Market area where local artisans produce hand made goods from leather, shell, and even fish scales. Look for soaps and fragrances made from local West Indian ingredients.
