5 Things To Do In Capitol Reef National Park

Our spontaneous road trip detour to Capitol Reef was a lovely surprise☺️ We only had half a day to explore the National Park but we found 5 awesome things to do here! Check them out now in this video!

~

We’ve just hit the road for another trip and as usual, we didn’t decide where we were going until we started driving????

St George or Moab?
This was the question.

We drive south, munching sautéed green beans and bacon, and suddenly, we swerve right, exit for Scipio and book it eastbound to Capitol Reef????

Okayyyy, maybe it wasn’t thattttt last minute of a decision but it’s true that we did decide to go explore Captitol Reef.

Quick research brought us to the Cassidy Arch hike in Capitol Reef N.P. which was a pleasant surprise.

We finished off the day with a scenic picnic near the Gifford house surrounded by deer and marmots!

Capitol Reef National Park 3-minute Tour

Capitol Reef National Park in Utah is a little-known gem of the national park service. This is the heart of the Canyon Country - red rock cliffs and giant geological formations like the water-pocket fold, the Capitol Dome for which the park is named, and the historic Morman town of Fruita.

CAPITOL REEF NATIONAL PARK STUNNING SCENIC DRIVE AND CAPITOL GORGE ROAD

Capitol Reef National Park in Utah is one of our favorite national parks. The Capitol Reef National Park Scenic Drive is stunning with the rugged beauty of the canyons, ridges and buttes. We drove our Toyota 4Runner through Capitol Gorge Road, which is a 2 1/4 mile dirt road at the end of the scenic drive, that twists and turns through the narrow canyon of Windgate Sandstone. The Fruita Historic District has wonderful heirloom orchards with cherries, apricots, peaches, pears and apples that you can pick when in season. The Freemont River runs through the Historic District and supplies water to the orchards. Capitol Reef National Park also has a great picnic area and 71 site campground.

We have upcoming videos on the Loop The Fold Driving Tour and The Burr Trail Switchbacks, as well as the Cathedral Valley Loop at Capitol Reef.

This is the fifth video in the series of our summer 2020 road trip adventures.

Capitol Reef National Park, Utah | 4K video

Short visit to Capitol Reef National Park in Utah's south-central desert. It surrounds a long wrinkle in the earth known as the Waterpocket Fold, with layers of golden sandstone, canyons and striking rock formations. Among the park's sights are the Chimney Rock pillar, the Hickman Bridge arch, and Capitol Reef, known for its white sandstone domes. In the north are the towering monoliths of Cathedral Valley. Drone shots are taken outside of the park near western entrance.
