A Full Rundown of GOBLIN VALLEY's Campground & Yurts + GOBLIN LAIR Hike | Utah

Experience Utah's Goblin Valley like never before! We show our stay in a cozy yurt and camp among the fantastic red rock formations for two nights. In addition, we finally check out the astonishing Goblin's Lair hike - adventure awaits!

Located near central Utah, Goblin Valley State Park is unlike any you've likely seen. If the red mushroom-shaped hoodoos, known as goblins, creating an almost alien-like landscape don't make you feel like you're on another planet, the sheer remoteness of the park will.

The nearest town to the park is Hanksville, Utah - almost a 30-minute drive to the south. Finding closer lodging is just not possible which makes camping ideal. Not only are you just outside the park, but you also have unique backdrops of some goblins and are located very close to other amazing outdoor opportunities like the slot canyons of Little Wild Horse Canyon and Bell Canyon.

Goblin Valley State Park campground consists of ten walk-in tent sites, fourteen RV sites, one group site, and two yurts. All campsites have elevated tent pads, a fire ring with a grill, and a picnic table under a metal shelter to provide shade.

RV sites do not have hookups, however, there is a dump station.

The two yurts provide a unique experience for those looking to camp in more comfort. Both hold a maximum of 5 people, have electricity inside, and are equipped with heat and air conditioning. Tables with seating are included as is an outdoor grill. There are no hookups for RVs at these sites either.

The campground has two restroom facilities - one with vault toilets and one with flushing toilets and hot showers.

Coolest Rappel In The World...The Golden Cathedral! Canyoneering Through Neon Canyon, Utah

The video features a hike to Neon Canyon, several rappels within the canyon, Utah culminating in a free hanging 90' rappel into the Golden Cathedral. This is unequivocally is one of the most unique and exciting slot canyon adventures in Utah! There is no formal trail to the Golden Cathedral! The adventure begins with a 6+ mile hike carrying loads of gear though deep sand, numerous scrambles over slick rock and a hike to the top of Neon Canyon. Once at the top, one has to rappel into the canyon. Several more rappels and wading/swimming through pools of water, often boobytrapped with quicksand, are required before one reaches the thrill of a lifetime, a free hanging rappel into the golden Cathedral. Then one has a 6+ mile hike, mostly uphill back to Camp.

This particular adventure was led by Tom Jones (a.ka. the Michael Jordan of slot canyoneering) and Mike Schasch and was done in 100º+ heat.

Check out Tom's description of the adventure.

Chute canyon pothole crossing

Canyoneering in Utah's Chute Canyon. Wading through a pothole containing thigh deep, 40 degree, putrefying organic stew. The odor can't be appreciated without 'Smellivision'. Imagine deep tones of methane with accents of rotten egg.

Buckhorn Wash Snowmelt

This was kind of fun. I had crossed the bottom of the wash to hike around briefly while my wife stayed at the pictograph panel, but when I returned about five minutes later, the wash was full of running water several inches deep and six feet wide. I ran downstream to take a few short video clips of the leading edge of the water.
