We (Charlie and Sharon - the people on the videos!) moved to Canada right in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic through the Federal Skilled Worker Express Entry system, so we’ve been through the immigration process ourselves and - thanks to a global pandemic - our moving process took longer than expected and presented far more challenges than we’d hoped for! Cost Of Living In Canada: Your 2023 Guide

Here's a full breakdown of what average salaries and the cost of living in Canada look like going into 2023

00:00 Intro
00:19 How Expensive is Canada in comparison to other countries?
00:57 What are the Most Expensive and Cheapest Major Cities/Provinces?
01:38 How Expensive are Housing and Accommodation in Canada?
02:14 How Much Does Education Cost?
02:35 Learn More about Canada

Are you planning to move to Canada but don’t know if you can afford to? In this video, we will
explore the cost of living in Canada in 2023, so we can arm you with the knowledge to make an informed decision regarding how to plan your move.

Chapter 1: How Expensive is Canada in comparison to other countries?

Canada, like most major economies with a high standard of living, is quite costly. However, compared to other sovereign economies like the USA or Australia, the cost of living is relatively cheaper and affordable. For example, the average monthly expenses for a family of four is 4,637.94 CAD and 4,877.01 CAD in Australia and the USA, respectively. This contrasts with Canada, where the same expense will only set you back 4,388.86 CAD.

Chapter 2: What are the Most Expensive and Cheapest Major Cities/Provinces?

Canadian cities, while offering a high standard of living, tend to differ a lot with regard to their affordability, a consequence of the large and varied topography of the country, which led to different socio-economic conditions. By and large, the biggest cities tend to be the most expensive. According to Numbeo.com, Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary have an average cost of living per person of 1,366.83 CAD, while smaller cities and towns such as Sherbrooke, London and Winnipeg have an average cost of living per person of 987 CAD.

Chapter 3: How Expensive are Housing and Accommodation in Canada?

Living costs, like housing, accommodation, transportation and healthcare are comparatively cheap in Canada compared to either Australia or the USA. However, to offset these costs you should apply for permanent residency when considering a move, as many amenities and services are free of charge to Canadian Permanent Residents. You can obtain permanent residency by receiving an ITA, via a number of different immigration routes. Speak to an RCIC to find out which the best path would be for you to take.

Chapter 4: How Much Does Education Cost?

For Canadian citizens and permanent residents, education is heavily subsidized through taxes by the Canadian government. However, you may have to contribute towards your tuition fees in certain fields, especially in tertiary education where admission standards are high and availability is low.

If you're interested in Canada or the UK for your future home, you must know the cost of living in Canada vs UK.

Knowing your cost of living helps to determine how much money you need, what kind of salary you will need, and how much spending power you will have once you arrive.

We've compared the cost of living in the five cheapest cities in each country:

Sherbrook, Quebec City, Saint John, Halifax and Laval in Canada;

And Birmingham, Cardiff, Manchester, Chester and Norwich in the UK.

Through our analysis, we discovered:

Rent and housing costs in Canada are significantly lower than in the UK. For example, the monthly rent for a single-bedroom city apartment in Birmingham, UK, is equivalent to 1,303.28 dollars, whereas that same apartment in Sherbrooke, Canada, will cost 685 dollars per month.

UK groceries are between 10 and 35 percent cheaper than in Canada, but restaurant prices are between 10 and 25 percent lower in Canada. For example, one litre of milk in Halifax, Canada, will cost 2 dollars 46 cents, whereas, in Chester, UK, it will cost one dollar 61 cents.

Compared to the UK, local purchasing power in Canada varies wildly by city. Even so, Canada tends to have a higher local purchasing power than the UK.
Average salaries also vary wildly depending on your city. However, the average monthly salary in Canada is 15 percent higher than the UK at 4,185 dollars compared to the UK’s 3,636 dollars.

For a full analysis of Canada's general cost of living, look at the link in our description.

In addition, there are far more job opportunities in Canada for foreigners. For a full breakdown of which jobs are currently in demand in Canada, look at the link in our description.

Toronto IS expensive! And this is a complete breakdown of how much I spend in a month living in Toronto as a couple. I am a 28 years old new Indian immigrant in Canada who moved from Australia to Canada last year and I make videos about life in Canada as well as life in Toronto and to say the least, Toronto is not a cheap place to live.

I live in a downtown Toronto condo and work at a medium pay job in Toronto downtown as well. Cost of living in Toronto is high and as a young working couple, I am sharing how much I spend in a month so you can know how much salary you need to make so that you have a decent downtown Toronto living because Toronto life is anything but cheap.

If you are thinking that Vancouver is expensive, then think again. I would to do a Vancouver vs Toronto if I had lived in Vancouver but hope this gives you an idea about how much money you need to live in Toronto?

And are you still thinking does Toronto have a high cost of living?

Cost Of Living In Canada In 2022 + Expensive And Cheaper Provinces

Living In Canada/cost.

Potential immigrants have always wondered what the cost of living in Canada will be like. Knowing about the standard of living in Canada is a proactive measure that everyone who is considering immigration needs to take to prepare financially especially as tariffs, costs, and standards of economy vary largely from country to country.

The basic things that attract costs most in Canada are rent, tax, transportation, and buying of groceries or other provisions. Most other basic needs such as healthcare and education are funded to a major extent by the Canadian government.

For example, the Canadian government provides free education for all children who are below 18 years of age and also covers some of the basic health care services citizens and residents need.

Except you will want to pay for private education for your children or get additional insurances, the cost of living in Canada per month for a start is still fairly affordable.

If you are just coming into Canada, one of the things that will affect how much of your initial income you spend is the exchange rate of the currency of your country of departure with that of Canada.

If the currency of your current location has a lower value than that of the Canadian dollars, then, your purse will be greatly affected for the first few weeks or until you begin to earn in Canadian dollars.

If you have any questions, please leave them on the comments section.
