With nearly 15 years aboard and 80,000+ nautical miles under our belt, we can say that we really know this boat inside and out- the good, the bad, the ugly, and everything in between! We Tried BOAT LIFE for 72 Hours (Is it for us?)
This week we tried #boatlife for the very first time! As newbies we had to learn the ropes (pun intended) we both learned how to drive, navigate, moor and sleep on the boat for 72 hours.
We were a little worried how this would go as Aimee can get quite boat sick, but as we were on the Scottish lochs, there wasn't a wave in sight and we honestly had the trip of a lifetime.
On this trip we sailed the Caledonian canal on the Great Glen Way. An absolutely stunning part of the Scottish highlands.
We left from Inverness and made out way all the way down to Fort Augustus - where we had to use our new found skills on the 6 flight locks! (We had help don't worry!)
The full length of the canal is around 60 miles and usually ends in Fort William.
It was so exciting to be able to take this HUGE boat out on Loch ness by ourselves - a dream trip and we were lucky enough to get the best weather for it! Seeing Scotland via boat is such a different perspective - We would highly recommend it and it you're nervous about the boat - don't be!

In 2017 we bought our first sprinter van and spent 30 days renovating it into our dream tiny home. The plan was to van life around the world and we'd made it all the way from Canada to Africa. Fast forward to COVID...us abandoning our van in a Moroccan parking lot, flying home to Canada, converting yet another van, and then moving to our cabin in the woods. Now, we're taking the plunge into BOAT LIFE!
We've always envisioned moving into the woods by the lake and building our dream tiny cabin as a home base for us to come back to in between our international van life travels. And as much as we love cabin life we've definitely been craving an adventure so we moved onto a boat for 72 hours to explore the Rideau Canal system!

Some of you might remember that I had a kite surfing accident in Los Roques (Venezuela) that resulted in a heavily fractured calcaneus bone (heel bone). Since then, nearly a year has gone by and this update video will take you on a fast forward journey from September 2019 to March 2020. This week we get back to the boat build and install some critical equipment for the tropics--while in the middle of a freezing New England winter ; ) We are at least learning from our mistakes during two years of van life by prioritizing air flow and cooling equipment, and I hope one day these guys will pay off big time! Anybody got recommendations for staying cool in extreme temperatures? We've got windsocks already, but want to build some more advanced ones when we get the chance, and we don't have space/energy for AC, so it's got to be low energy and compact!

I’ve always wondered what it’s like to live at sea. I never had the opportunity until now, when I decided to go for it! In this first episode of my 'Life at Sea' series, I’m moving onto a traditional wooden Polynesian boat and getting ready to sail for the first time, down the Portuguese coast!
Some advice to any fellow travellers:
I had a very positive experience sailing for the first time but unfortunately, it isn't the case for everyone as some people have bad intentions, there are sexual predators out there and people can sometimes find themselves in potentially dangerous situations. So please take your safety precautions when travelling: ask questions, use your common sense and trust your instincts! If going sailing, especially alone, always do your research to assess if the boat, captain, and crew are safe, reliable and a happy match. Also, I recommend always telling someone you trust: who you’re sailing with, how long you might be away and your location if you know you might go off the grid for a while. I’m including resources and links to websites, groups and sailing communities where you can find blacklisted captains, find more information and meet other travellers. Wish you safe travels and happy sailing :)

Hey all! Thanks for watching this video :) As seasoned cruisers we know a good dinghy is of the up most importance when living and cruising on a boat. With the trimaran, we have to worry about space and weight and I think we have found the perfect dinghy that will enable us to get to shore with Jetty and is easy to pack up and stow when we are on the road. Regardless of our negative Covid-19 tests, all passengers from the #repatriation flight are being treated and held in quarantine as if we have the virus. It feels extreme but we also understand. Viruses on these small, underdeveloped, and very remote islands are devastating. So, the Tongan Government is taking every precaution...and then some.
We’ve landed on the main island of Nuku'alofa where we’ll stay for our 21 days of government monitored quarantine. Then we catch a cargo ship to Vava’u Tonga to see Curiosity for the first time in a year! I still have to pinch myself every time I say it because it seems too good to be true: We're Finally Home!
WHO ARE WE?
We’re Jason and Nikki Wynn. We been living #OffTheGrid and exploring the world for 10 years.
Our first six years of #travel were an epic road trip around North America.
Now we’re on a #sailing voyage about the world. Did we have any previous sailing experience, of course not!
Neither of us is overly talented, smart, rich, lucky, or retired. But that doesn’t stop us from reaching far-flung destinations, having wild #adventures and managing everything that makes living aboard a moving vessel possible.
We’re two ordinary people that just so happen to live an extraordinary life.
