Juju in Cameroon

This was a cry die for my neighbor, Pa Matheias. Every afternoon, I'd come home from a long day of teaching, he'd say with big smile say, Ahhhh! Mr. Steve! You are back?

Together we would then drink palm wine (or a shot or two of moonshine) outside.

He was a nice man. I adored him greatly.

When dying, I was there with him. Checking his pulse, applying cool compresses.

I was determined for him to live. The whole village turned up to see him go.

Mr. Steve, let him go. It's time. He's ready.

One of the hardest lessons I learned in Cameroon.

CAMEROON ROADS - TORMENTS IN RAINY SEASON

Driving to Mamfe from Kumba from June to September can be exciting, frustrating, and can cause your blood to boil to see the torment people go through to get from one place to another. You see the wealth around you and you ask WHY? Contractors get money for upkeep of these roads but they make things worse by dumping EARTH, which they should know will become mud in the rain. But Cameroonians are a happy bunch. For them, this is fun? Drivers with 4 wheeled vehicles help others out. Makia Epie(2012)

Off roading in Cameroon

The best and the worst of African roads

Cameroon - just another day during our Trans-Africa trip

Just another day in Cameroon during our trans-Africa trip. Plenty of mud prior to the rainy season.

Dangerous African roads

most dangerous road in South Africa N2

The N2 road from East London through Mthatha (Umtata) to Kokstad is considered the most dangerous road in South Africa, with many accidents. Three vehicles overtake me as I approach the Nahoon River of East London on the N2. Two mini busses and a car. The car wants to overtake the mini busses, and indicates. The second mini bus decides to overtake the first mini bus, and proceeds to do so, in front of the overtaking car, without indicating.

Crossing The Border from Nigeria to Cameroon

This video was made during the Invisible Borders Road Trip Project 2012. The Team makes an attempt to traverse the border from Nigeria to Cameroon, but they got stuck on this road for three days! Since the independence of the two countries this road has always been like this, in fact, it has never been any real road for vehicles; it is literally an expanded pathway. It has been like this for over 50 years, more over it is the only road leading from the only official border post between the two countries from the South of Cameroon. This is to say that during rainy season movement across both countries is rendered impossible or at least a nightmare (literally). A quote from Emmanuel Iduma's recount of the Journey reads a follows: How reasonable is it that a road that establishes a connection -- a trade connection, a socio-cultural connection -- is in such condition? What becomes of the African Union, and their regular summits? What is the developmental role of the Africa Development Bank? A lie has continually been repeated to the peoples of both countries, the people living at the border -- they have been told that their leaders care, that their leaders acknowledge their existence
