Cape Verde is an archipelago of ten volcanic islands, nine of which are inhabited, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, roughly 600 kilometers west of Senegal and off the coast of Africa.
☁️Weather
The Cape Verde islands are a lovely tropical getaway because of their 24° to 30°C average annual temperature range. Travelers frequently return to Cape Verde because of the country’s prolonged, continuous sunny hours and low humidity levels. Additionally, several islands see more excellent waves between November and March due to stronger winds, which is especially advantageous for those who enjoy water sports.

In today's video, we look at Cape Verde Getaway: What They Don't Want You to Know! Keep watching to discover the top things to do in Cape Verde's Sal Island and Boa Vista. Explore the islands on a Cape Verde tour, or enjoy the beautiful coastline with a catamaran cruise. Cabo Verde - Pearl of Africa | San Antão - São Vicente - Santiago | Cinematic travel & drone video

This is a cinematic video report of our 9 day trip to Cabo Verde in february 2022. I could fly my drone everywhere I wanted, or at least where the wind permitted it. I'm glad I brought my Air 2S, because my mini 2 would certainly have struggeled to fight the wind.

Cabo Verde is a small African country, but it's ten islands are so diverse. People here are really helpful and friendly, the food is fantastic and there are plenty of things to discover. It's impossible to select just a few of the best locations to visit in Cabo Verde, because there's so much to choose from.

The Secret Paradise Island We'd Never Heard Of (Santo Antão, Cape Verde) | Ep. 58

Hello! In this video, we're in Cape Verde in Mindelo and are taking a ferry across to the island of Santo Antão which is very close but you can't really go with the boat as there's nowhere to anchor.
We have family visiting, so we stay there for a few days and go and explore this island that is a real hidden gem! We do lots of hikes (if you would like more info on any of the hikes/places let us know in the comments), and are surrounded by greenery, fruit trees and sugarcanes! The whole island was really atmospheric and we couldn't believe how untouched it still was to tourism. A big highlight of our trip so far. Hope you enjoy discovering it with us!

Thanks for watching! And subscribe if you'd like to support us :)

SAL, CAPE VERDE: Travel Guide to Beaches & ALL Top Sights in 4K + Drone

Cape Verde is a tropical paradise off the coast of Africa. The islands are popular holiday destinations for Europeans and therefore also for the Dutch. What is there to do? For example, I often heard that Cape Verde would not have much to offer. Nothing is less true. Watch the video and see for yourself that Cape Verde has much more to offer than a few beaches and coves. In this episode you see the island of Sal with the cozy town of Santa Maria, the capital Espargos, the wonderful Olho Azul, the Salinas, Kite Surf Beach and Shark Bay, where the sharks swim between your legs!

This year we travel all over the world and after the Canary Islands and Oman Cape Verde is our third destination. In this episode we start on the island of Sal and the next episode we also visit the island of Boa Vista.

Follow us on this world trip, first in Cape Verde and then to many more beautiful destinations! We travel non-stop all year round and film everything. Also take a look at instagram @woutoftheworld or

SAL ISLAND Travel Guide: Things To Do - Cape Verde (4K)

Sal (Portuguese for salt) is an island in Cape Verde. Sal is a tourist destination with white sandy beaches and over 350 days of sunshine a year. It is one of the three sandy eastern islands of the Cape Verde archipelago in the central Atlantic Ocean, 350 mi (560 km) off the west coast of Africa. Cabo Verde is known for year-round kiteboarding, for the large reserve of Caretta turtles which hatch from July to September, and the music of Cesaria Evora. For Europeans , the island was discovered on 3 December 1460 and named Llana (flat). This name was changed into the current Sal when the two large salt ponds (Pedra de Lume and Santa Maria) were discovered. The first three centuries after its discovery, the island was only sparsely inhabited; in 1720 there was a small fishing village near present Palmeira. This changed when the salt industry was developed at the end of the 18th century, starting in Pedra de Lume. Santa Maria was founded in the south of the island in 1830 by Manuel António Martins. During this time the salt industry thrived, with 30,000 tons of salt being exported in the early years. Most of the salt was exported to Brazil until its nationalization in 1887, Portuguese and French salt investors resumed salt production until 1984.

In 1939 Italy started constructing an airport to receive flights from Europe and South America. Construction was halted and ceased around World War II. The Portuguese bought the airport from the Italians and finished it in 1949. Northeast of the airport, workers from São Nicolau Island settled in a village named Preguiça, now part of Espargos. Hurricane Fred struck the island of Sal in late summer 2015, causing damage to houses, tourist facilities and ships.

The island is 29.7 km long and 11.8 km wide. Its area is 219.84 km2 (84.88 sq mi). It is one of the three sandy eastern islands (Sal, Boa Vista and Maio) of the archipelago, with white sandy beaches. The island is fairly flat; its highest point is Monte Grande, at 406 m elevation.  The uninhabited islet Ilhéu Rabo de Junco lies near the west coast of Sal. Saline marshes can be found in the Pedra de Lume crater and north of Santa Maria.

Sal Island has on average 350 days of sunshine a year. Winds mainly blow from the northeast. However, some days do also have clouds, but they tend to be scattered and seldom bring rain. The 'rainy season' is from July to mid-October, although rainfall is still low.

Please LIKE the video as it really helps my channel Thank you! ????

The Hotel was 99.9% accessible for me in my wheelchair which was amazing. The swimming pools had very shallow steps with handrails when entering the water and even had chair lifts to lower people into the pool if required. It would be perfect if there were some boards on the sand down to the sea for disabled / wheelchairs / strollers etc ♿ We had an adapted room which was perfect for our requirements.. thank you RIU !

Thank you to TUI special assistance and Bristol Airport special assistance... and a HUGE BIG thank you to the special assistance gang at Sal International Airport (Amílcar Cabral International Airport) who were truly AMAZING!

Here's what they say:

Situated on an idyllic white sand beach on the island of Sal, the Hotel Riu Palace Santa Maria offer a 24-hour all-inclusive service for an unforgettable stay. The choice of cuisine, entertainment programmes, range of facilities, and the Splash Water World water park provide the perfect combination for a truly unique experience at RIU.

The rooms at this hotel in Santa Maria offer the utmost comfort for your holiday: comfortable beds, air conditioning, minibar, drink dispensers, and many other services. What's more, the Hotel Riu Palace Santa Maria offers swim-up rooms with a private swimming pool for an even more exclusive experience. When it comes to switching off and relaxing, there's no better place than the sun loungers next to one of the 6 outdoor swimming pools. Alternatively, you can head to the private beach area reserved for hotel guests and take in the incredible surroundings.

The Hotel Riu Palace Santa Maria has different restaurants with an outstanding selection of cuisine to please all tastes: a breakfast buffet with live cooking stations, Italian specialities, Japanese and fusion dishes, and a wide range of other options. However, if you want to return home feeling totally refreshed, head to the Renova Spa, which includes a gym, a steam room, and a wide range of treatments to suit all needs.

Sal Island is the perfect place to enjoy a holiday in paradise. We recommend visiting the natural pools in Buracona, the old fishing village of Pedra de Lume, or Palmeira, a fishing village where the island's only port is located.

Think back 10 years ago. Had you heard of Cape Verde? Not quite African and not quite Portuguese, a vibrant mix of both worlds. The islands of Cape Verde are as beautiful as they are mysterious. It was the transatlantic slave trades that put these islands on the map and ten years ago, TUI put them on the tourist trail and the industry boomed. It's no surprise but the constant beat of traditional music, turquoise seas, sandy beaches, world-class surf and surreal lunar landscapes. I've been given the opportunity to travel 2,700 miles across the Atlantic to visit Sal, an island steeped in history and natural wonders, where suddenly there are more tourists than locals. I want to engage with its people, absorb its unique culture and at this most critical time in our planet's history, dig deeper into the reality of tourism and learn how we as tourists can improve the way we travel to ensure a sustainable future for an industry we all love. We've been guided along the way by two amazing charities; the TUI Care Foundation and the Travel Foundation who work closely with local businesses and hotels. This trip was to become one of the biggest eyeopeners of my travels to date. So let's go back to the beginning. At Holiday Extras we believe in making simple choices to improve the way we travel, to find solutions that benefit the environment and lessen our negative impact on a destination so our journey began in an airport lounge at Gatwick, ideal if you're trying to avoid buying plastic whilst filling up on delicious food before your flight. We chose to fly direct to Sal with TUI Airways, the world's most carbon efficient airline. And upon landing we were met by our prefect transfer driver who took us straight to our greener hotel on the southwest coast of the island. So we're starting our day having breakfast with a view. It kind of reminds me of what the moon would look like. It's very rocky but that view is just gorgeous and we're not wasting any time, we're starting today with an island tour and this is with the company called Explore CV, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what today has an offer. Booking an excursion on a trip can be the highlight of any holiday but we want to emphasize the importance of finding a responsible tour company. Explore Cape Verde were recommended to us by the Travel Foundation for being passionate about the island's wildlife, whilst providing eco-conscious excursions. We booked on an island tour and our tour guide Jordi was a knowledgeable marine biologist. The tour started in the coastal town of Santa Maria at the fishing pier which is the soul of the island. Jordi showed us around and explained that the fisherman returned around 11:00 a.m. every morning to their wives who are waiting at the pier ready to sell the catch. If it's the locals fisherman's it is a sustainable fishing we also sell the rights for the European Union to fish here in Cape Verdean waters. Cape Verde got its independence in 1975. As a former Portuguese colony, they absorbed the Portuguese influence and their blood. Mixed with the Africans who settled here, essentially created their own race Creole. It's like cultural to jump from the pier. If you come here and you didn't jump you cannot say that you've been in Sal. The no stress lifestyle here it seems the whole time. Next up we visited a natural reef, a popular feeding area for lemon sharks and a place for tourists to safely see them in the wild. You can rent water shoes to protect your feet from the rocks and carefully wade in to watch them hunt. Jordi's care and consideration for the sharks was very clear, insisting we keep a fair distance as not to disturb them. Other guides let their groups go as far as they wanted, some even chased the curious parts which reminded me of the importance of booking with a responsible company.

map of Cape Verde

Cape Verde , officially the Republic of Cabo Verde, is an archipelago and island country in the central Atlantic Ocean, consisting of ten volcanic islands with a combined land area of about 4,033 square kilometres (1,557 sq mi). These islands lie between 600 to 850 kilometres (320 to 460 nautical miles) west of Cap-Vert, the westernmost point of continental Africa. The Cape Verde islands form part of the Macaronesia ecoregion, along with the Azores, the Canary Islands, Madeira, and the Savage Isles.

The Cape Verde archipelago was uninhabited until the 15th century, when Portuguese explorers discovered and colonized the islands, thus establishing the first European settlement in the tropics. Because the Cape Verde islands were located in a convenient location to play a role in the Atlantic slave trade, Cape Verde became economically prosperous during the 16th and 17th centuries, attracting merchants, privateers, and pirates. It declined economically in the 19th century due to the suppression of the Atlantic slave trade, and many of its inhabitants emigrated during that period. However, Cape Verde gradually recovered economically by becoming an important commercial center and useful stopover point along major shipping routes. In 1951, Cape Verde was incorporated as an overseas department of Portugal, but its inhabitants continued to campaign for independence, which they achieved in 1975.

Since the early 1990s, Cape Verde has been a stable representative democracy, and has remained one of the most developed and democratic countries in Africa. Lacking natural resources, its developing economy is mostly service-oriented, with a growing focus on tourism and foreign investment. Its population of around 483,628 (as of the 2021 Census) is mostly of mixed African and European heritage, and predominantly Roman Catholic, reflecting the legacy of Portuguese rule. A sizeable Cape Verdean diaspora community exists across the world, especially in the United States and Portugal, considerably outnumbering the inhabitants on the islands. Cape Verde is a member state of the African Union.

Cape Verde's official language is Portuguese. It is the language of instruction and government. It is also used in newspapers, television, and radio. The recognized national language is Cape Verdean Creole, which is spoken by the vast majority of the population. he archipelago of modern-day Cape Verde was formed approximately 40–50 million years ago during the Eocene era.

Before the arrival of Europeans, the Cape Verde Islands were uninhabited. They were discovered by Genoese and Portuguese navigators around 1456. According to Portuguese official records,[16] the first discoveries were made by Genoa-born António de Noli, who was afterwards appointed governor of Cape Verde by the Portuguese king Afonso V. Other navigators mentioned as contributing to discoveries on the Cape Verde archipelago are Diogo Dias, Diogo Afonso, Venetian Alvise Cadamosto, and Diogo Gomes (who had accompanied António de Noli on his voyage of discovery, and who claimed to have been the first to land on the Cape Verdean island of Santiago, and the first to name that island).

In 1462, Portuguese settlers arrived at Santiago and founded a settlement they called Ribeira Grande. Today it is called Cidade Velha (Old City), to distinguish it from a town of the same name on a different Cape Verdean island (Ribeira Grande on the island of Santo Antão). The original Ribeira Grande was the first permanent European settlement in the tropics.

In the 16th century, the archipelago prospered from the Atlantic slave trade. Pirates occasionally attacked the Portuguese settlements. Francis Drake, an English privateer, twice sacked the (then) capital Ribeira Grande in 1585 when it was a part of the Iberian Union. After a French attack in 1712, the town declined in importance relative to nearby Praia, which became the capital in 1770.

Decline in the slave trade in the 19th century resulted in an economic crisis. Cape Verde's early prosperity slowly vanished. However, the islands' position astride mid-Atlantic shipping lanes made Cape Verde an ideal location for re-supplying ships. Because of its excellent harbour, the city of Mindelo, located on the island of São Vicente, became an important commercial centre during the 19th century. Diplomat Edmund Roberts visited Cape Verde in 1832. Cape Verde was the first stop of Charles Darwin's voyage with HMS Beagle in 1832. mapa de cabo verde , #caboverde, #capeverde ,
