SLOVENIA | Hiking in the Julian Alps: Tolmin Gorge & Slap Kozjak

Welcome back to another Slovenia vlog! Today we are exploring the beauty of the Julian Alps!

In this video we take 2 short hikes in Triglav National Park.

First, we did a short 3.5km hike to one of Slovenia's most stunning waterfalls. This short hike is called Slap Kozjak. The hike is right outside of Kobarid and is part of the Kobarid Historic Trail that highlights all the major sites in the area. You could consider hiking the historic trail if you wanted something longer!

The next day we hiked the Tolmin Gorge, also known as Tolminska Korita. It is a gorgeous natural wonder and one of the most popular attractions in the Soča Valley area. This hike should take you no more than 1.5 hours to see all the viewpoints. This hike was a highlight of our time in Slovenia, although we enjoyed every moment we spent in this beautiful country!

Thanks for watching!

HUGE WALLS in the JULIAN ALPS - Aerial 4K

This is not a Vlog, but a couple weeks ago I hiked again to this incredible ridge in the Julian Alps, on a mountain called Zabus, to shoot some aerials. I ended up flying for more than an hour and I thought the footage could have been enough for a proper edit. the light was really good, also some fog started to create on the grass side of the mountain, and I had a lot of fun trying different camera movements.

Let me know if you like it!

See you next Sunday with another Video!

Crazy Sunset + Alpine Bivak in SLOVENIA

In this video, I'm hiking with some friends to an amazing ridgeline called Kotovo Sedlo, facing the north-west face of Mount Jalovec (2665m).
After 4h hiking, we've been lucky to find some spectacular sunset light and crazy colours. We took some amazing pics!
After the sunset session, my friends went down in the dark and I spent the night in a tiny alpine bivak and took some more night and sunrise photographs.

Thanks to my friends for joining!

Best of Ultra Trail Julian Alps 2021': 177 km + 8360 m: terepfutó verseny a Júliai Alpokban

( Check the English Subtitles ! )
A verseny A Júliai Alpok déli oldalán található kisvárosból, Kobaridból indul, érinti a csodás Soca folyócskát, 2021-ben csodás napkeltét kínált 1600m magasság környékéről, a hegyeken átkelve lefutotutnk a Bled-tóhoz, majd Zirovnicától következett eddigi terepfutó pályafutásom legnehezebb emelkedője. Míg a legnevesebb magyar terepfutó verseny (Ultra-Trail Hungary) nehéz emelkedője a 2,3 km-re 470 m szintemelkedést tartalmazó Vadálló-kövek / Prédikálószék kaptatója, ehhez képes itt 125 km után a Stol / Hochstuhl kaptatója több, mint háromszorosát jelenti a magyar emelkedőnek hiszen meredek részén 7 km-re jut 1508 m szintemelkedés.
A 100 mérföldes táv útvonala: Kobarid - Soča Valley - Tolmin - Črna prst - Soriška planina - Ratitovec - Bled - Žirovnica - Stol - Golica - Srednji vrh Kranjska Gora.

ENG:
Route description of Ultra Trail Julian Alps: You start in historic Kobarid, right in the stunning Soča Valley. From then you continue towards Tolmin, where the route gets even more interesting – taking you above Podbrdo and Črna prst towards Soriška planina.

Your breath will be taken away many times along the way, as you’ll be able to see Slovenia’s highest mountain Triglav for most of the way. Your route continues across the ridge towards Ratitovec, from which you descend towards Jelovica and continue towards Babji zob. This is where you’ll join ways with 100 km runners and continue towards Bled.

From there the route takes you towards Žirovnica, right under stunning Karawanks peaks. This is where your climb towards the highest peak Stol begins. Don’t forget to take some pictures from the highest point of your race, because it’ll offer breath-taking views of Julian Alps.

Your next stop from Stol is going across the ridge, right to Golica and Dovška baba. From there you have a great downhill in store, taking you straight to Mojstrana. A flat section follows next, but you still have some climbing to do.

You’ll start climbing in Gozd Martuljek and go towards Srednji vrh, which is only a downhill away from your finish in Kranjska Gora.

Wilderness of SLOVENIA - Night in a Alpine Bivak | Kotovo Sedlo

Hi! Welcome to another video!
In this episode, I'm adventuring with two friends in the spectacular mountains of Slovenia! We are very close to the italian border, we left our cars in Planica, and hiked up till Kotovo Sedlo ridge, a spectacular place with a crazy view towards Mt. Jalovec, 2645m. This mountain is so sharp, it's such a perfect subject for photography and videos! In the distance I also spotted Mt. Triglav, highest mountain in Slovenia.
We spent the night in a really nice bivak located 150m below the ridge, it's such a perfect place to spend the night! I already visited this place in winter, and spent the night in the same bivak, have a look at the video to watch the HUGE difference in the landscape :)

IMPORTANT: please ALWAYS leave the bivaks clean and tidy, so they will be forever free and open to visitors.

Second night shot is by my friend Simone:

So Underrated: The Slovenian Alps

Who knew Slovenia had sick mountains?! A few months ago I couldn't even point out Slovenia on a map and here I am now bragging about it. If you are looking for a more low key, less touristy Alps vacation, look no further.....

I Hiked 2 HOURS in the Night Only for THIS. - Sunrise from Mangart, Julian Alps

Hey! In this short episode, I'm hiking for around 2 hours (it ended up being a little less) to reach a wonderful top in the Julian Alps: Mangart - 2678m.
There is a very easy via ferrata to get on top, if you are familiar with rocky terrains it's not necessary to hook with carabiners as it's VERY EASY and there is no exposition basically.

Started to hike at 3.30, made it to the top at 5 :)

Some guys arrived on top right after sunrise to fly down with paragliders. It was soo exciting!

Crossing The Alps Ep1: hiking & mountaineering the Julian Alps & Carnic Alps

A solo hiking and mountaineering traverse across the entire length of the Alps. My backpacking route linked trails, scrambles, via ferratas and climbing routes. This was a mammoth wild camping and thru hiking journey from Slovenia to Monaco.

In Part 1, I set off across the Julian Alps in Slovenia. Crossing the Triglav National Park included via ferrata and climbing routes over Prisojnik, Razor and Triglav. I then continued by linking up with the Karnischer Hohenweg long-distance walking route on the Austrian and Italian border.

Overnight in the COOLEST BIVAK of the ALPS: Bivacco Vuerich

Hey! Welcome back to my channel!
In this episode, I'm in the amazing Julian Alps to take you to one of the most amazing bivaks in the Alps: Bivacco Luca Vuerich!
It's located on top of Foronon del Buinz at 2531m, and is dedicated to one of the best alpinists of the area in the last 20 years, Luca Vuerich. He died 10 years ago climbing an icefall and his family decided to build this bivouac for him, in the middle of Julian Alps, among his beloved mountains.
About Luca:

I have been to this place like 5 or 6 times, and when Giulia asked me to go, I immediately said yes.
The road to the bottom of the plateau, Altopiano del Montasio, was closed so we had to start hiking from Sella Nevea. It was a long ascent, 4h and 1400m D+.
Also, there is an easy part of Via Ferrata (the beginning of Via Ferrata Ceria Merlone) starting from Forca de lis Sieris. I did it a lot of times and I didn't bring any equipment, but if you are not familiar with the place or you want to keep following the via ferrata after the bivak, you need it.
Also, there was a bit of snow in some parts of the climb so we had to be even more careful.

I hope you enjoy the video! :)

SHARP RIDGE between MATTERHORN and MONTE ROSA: Cresta Rey

Hello! Welcome to a new video!

In this video I'm spending 3 Days out in the mountains with my good friend Cippo, with the goal of completing my first ridge climb: Cresta Rey, a spectacular sharp ridge with incredible views of Matterhorn and Monte Rosa.
After spending the night at a super cozy bivak, we approached the ridge early in the morning to catch sunrise during the ascent. What an incredible experience!

The way down has probably been more tricky than the ascent as we rapelled into a culoir with loosen rocks (quite scary) that turned into pretty steep snow. But we slowly made our way back to the bivak and spent another night there.

Slovenian Mountain Trail - A hiking adventure - Part 2

FOR NON-GERMANS: Make sure to enable subtitles.

//
4 years after our first hike on the Slovenian Mountain Trail we are back in early September 2021. In the second part we start again exactly where we left off, in Tržič and hike a good 100km through the Karavanke and the Julian Alps, over the highest peaks in Slovenia to the Vršič Pass.

The most beautiful ridge in the Julian Alps- Pelci Traverse????

#MountaineeringSlovenia #ExploreSlovenianMountains #SlovenianMountaineering #ClimbingSlovenianMountains

In this video, you will see the most beautiful ridge in Slovenia, pelci Traverse.

A huge thanks to our rock stars, Ziggy, Vali, and Ana, for being part of an amazing journey!????

Here is the recap of the Pelci traverse:

Part 1
Relatively long approach, but there are plenty of amazing sights to see along the way, which reminded us of why we keep returning to the mountains. The hills above the Zadnja Trenta valley are home to many iconic alpine plants and animals. Since there is hardly ever anyone else around, you get a unique opportunity to spot them along the way. The guidebook stated that Planina Zapotok is like a natural botanical garden. As we hiked through the glades scattered with blooms of all colors, it became clear that that description was completely accurate. It would take an eternity to stop and admire every species independently.

Part 2
Finally, standing on a peak after spending hours in the valley gave us a rush of adrenaline. With this fresh motivation, we started our traverse of the Pelci ridge. After a short descent, we soon reached one of the cruxes of the traverse, a smooth slab with a shallow crimp to the right. Above it was a relatively good hold, and we were relieved as we ambled onto the ridge above—a nice way to wake us up and prepare us for the long trek ahead. From then on, except for crossing one or two stiff snow sections, the traverse was smooth. We fell into the routine of meandering between the rock pillars and keeping track of our rope and position. The ridge fell behind us rather quickly as we sunk into our routine and made some lighthearted conversation to keep us in good spirits.

Part 3
And so it didn’t feel long before we reached the second peak, Srednji Pelc. With a good part of the ridge behind us, we reached a long, wide, gradual slope, and it felt good to stand on secure ground for a few minutes. At this point, we were well past the middle point of our traverse. There were a couple more steep technical sections before we conquered Veliki Pelc and our last peak, Pelc nad Klonicami. So after about 4 hours of traversing and climbing, we took some time to rest and refuel with some food and water. With the help of a rock figure, we identified the direction we would continue in. As we started moving toward the end of the ridge, we prepared ourselves for the challenges of our return to the Trenta valley.

For more description, check out our blog -

If you would like to have amazing mountain guiding tours in Slovenia, you can reach us:

TECHNICAL DATA ON THE RIDGE:

ELEVATION:
Zadnji Pelc, 2315 m
Srednji Pelc, 2336 m
Veliki Pelc, 2388 m
Pelc nad Klonicami, 2442 m

ELEVATION OF STARTING POINT:
962 m

ELEVATION GAIN ALONG THE WAY:
Approximately 1550 m

THE MOST APPROPRIATE TIME FOR THE TRAVERSE:
The dry season between June and October

DURATION:
Zadnja Trenta-Zadnji Pelc, 4-5h
Zadnji Pelc-Pelc nad Klonicami, 4h
Pelc nad Klonicami- Zadnja Trenta, 4h
Altogether approximately 12-13h

SHELTER ALONG THE WAY:
Zapotok plain, 1385 m -possibility for sheltering overnight in the old barn building
Zavetišče pod Špičkom, 2064 m -transl. shelter beneath špička, quality bivouac

Trip to Prisojnik (Prisank) in the Slovenian Julian Alps.

Although Prisojnik is one of the highest peaks in the Slovenian Julian Alps, at 2,547 m, the starting point of the route is quite high, so the ascent is not too strenuous. This time we chose the path that leads to the ridge from the south side and along the ridge to the top. The whole time we have perfect views in all directions, and a special attraction is a huge hole in the mountain, like some kind of window from one side of the mountain to the other.

Julian Alps, Slovenia: Almost Having an Epic

The time when I went solo in the Julian Alps of Slovenia and almost had an epic... Well I've been saying that I'll make videos from my travels. Now I've got no excuse - here's me getting around to it! Consider it a sit down and chat with me about hiking and mountaineering adventures.

And I CANNOT believe it's that long. Next time, expect shorter videos!!
