Flying Inside Covid-19 Cargo Response Flights (B747 and B757)

This video is an example of how aviation is supporting the fight against Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. All of the advertising proceeds from this video will be donated to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.

In Los Angeles, a National Airlines B747-400BCF just arrived from Wuhan, China via Anchorage, Alaska. 53,270 Kgs of urgent medical supplies are being offloaded in just 40 mins. This was a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) charter so it was given high priority. I joined the B747 captain for a tour of the B747 BCF.

My next mission started at Anchorage to board a National Airlines passenger B757-200. This B757 just flew over the Pacific Ocean from Guangzhou, China via Kansai to Anchorage. The flight continues from Anchorage to Chicago carrying boxes of medical masks. This was also a FEMA charter. The flight departed at 05:00 and I was the only passenger onboard. After take-off, a beautiful sunrise over Alaska could be seen from the window. We arrived in Chicago after a 5.5 hours eventless flight. It was great to see the cargo get immediately offloaded. I am glad to have been part of this cargo mission and able to document how aviation is supporting the fight of COVID-19 pandemic.

How To Survive Airplane Crash - Ditching, Fire, Jungle and Arctic

I visited Dynamic Advanced Training in Dubai, a comprehensive learning organisation specialising in aviation safety and security training. My aviation survival skills were certainly put to the test. First, I went into a hydraulic driven airplane cabin simulator; this is used to test scenarios like heavy turbulence, smoke filled cabins, oxygen mask drop-downs and crash evacuations. I was assisted by 3 qualified cabin crew, who are also friends of mine.

Next, I experienced survival situations in both jungle and arctic environments. The mock up environments were hyper-realistic. My lunch break was spent inside a private jet mock up cabin, to practice how to serve my fellow passengers with McDonald’s BigMac and fries.

Then, I went through firefighting training; to cool off after this, I jumped into the pool for emergency ditching on water practice.

Thanks to Dynamic Advanced Training to provide me this valuable aviation training experience. For more info, please visit

COVID-19: Aviation’s Fight For Survival

This video takes a closer look at the current state of aviation during the COVID-19 crisis. How is Aviation fighting for survival during COVID-19?

Take a guess at just how many flights are currently in the sky on an average day?

The number of flights in the sky have fallen more than half recently and the number is continuing to drop all around the world. The sky is getting empty! Take a look at all the airplane grounding footage from all over the world.

Airports are emptying, so are airline lounges and the flights themselves. In the video, we discuss the implications of social distancing inside airplane.

While passenger flights and passenger numbers are falling, air cargo operations are increasing; playing a crucial role in these times of crisis, delivering lifesaving medical supplies and materials. Lot of airlines are now using their passenger planes to carry cargo only. We examine these cargo operations closely.

It is not all bad news however during this COVID-19 pandemic. Private aviation is booming! with high demand for private flights for charter, repatriation and transportation for medical equipment. Qatar Airways have recently increased 10,000 seats and have deployed an A380 on route to London, Paris and Frankfurt due to increase in demand as other airlines have suspended their operations.

We also see a 51-year-old DC-8 from the Samaritan’s Purse (a US Aid Organization) that recently flew to Verona, Italy. This latest mission saw the aircraft perform a flight to Verona in Italy, where it unloaded a 68-bed field hospital.

To end the video, I hope the sky will soon return to normal. Enjoy the time-lapse footage from London, Los Angeles and Hong Kong.

The Worst Year In Aviation - Coronavirus Impact

In this video we take a look at the current state of aviation with a focus on airlines, airplane manufacturers and the broader travel community.

Airport, borders and even countries are closed! Thousands of flights are being cancelled in light of travel bans in an attempt to fight the Coronavirus. Demand is drying up in ways that are completely unprecedented.

Airlines are fast running out of cash, as hundreds of thousands of fleets are grounded; as they battle to survive travel restrictions and country lock downs, that have engulfed the aviation and travel industry in crisis. IATA have warned that the lost in revenue for airlines due to Covid-19 could be up to $113 billion.

The GHI Big Debate Webinar - Your survival kit for the Covid-19 crisis

Sponsored by JBT Aerotech

Bruised and battered aviation operators are facing any existential threat as they try to ride out the Covid-19 crisis. Recent GHI research found 34% of stakeholders describing their business mood as ‘pessimistic, taking a huge financial hit and braced for worse’. Around 64% of sector leaders anticipate depleted flight volumes for up to two years and cash flow reserves are under severe stress.

So, what can our industry do to bolster its position and outlast the pandemic. How will social distancing take shape in the ground handling environment and are we about to see a transformational market shift towards more integrated stakeholder collaboration?

COVID-19: Repatriation Flights and Cargo Operations

In the last few weeks, due to the increase of COVID-19 cases, unique and unusual repatriation flights have been carried out all over the world.

Aviation is in a race with time to bring back stranded citizens and to send urgent medical supplies to save lives. People working in aviation right now are really showing the BEST of Humanity.

The video starts with footage from EL AL on a repatriation and rescue flight from Peru to Israel. Then I interview the Chief Cargo Officer of Qatar Airways and Chairman of National Air Cargo Inc on the current status with the air cargo industry. They explain why Air Cargo has been so busy and why there is the need to operate more cargo flights, even using passenger planes.

The video covers more repatriation and urgent cargo flights bringing medical supplies and equipment. This freight is being supplied by United, Delta, Austrian Airlines, LOT Polish, Lufthansa, Bamboo Airways, Nepal Airlines, Air India, Garuda Indonesia, Ethiopian Airlines and many more airlines not mentioned here.

I am making this vlog to highlight the importance of these missions and pay tribute to the people who work in this critical time to serve and save the world. #Clapsforourcarers #Aviation #Repatriation

The GHI Big Debate Webinar - Aviation in the Americas - Rallying against the Coronavirus pandemic

Sponsored by TLD.

The Americas region was the last to be hit by the global Covid-19 pandemic, but it is being hit one of the hardest. Avianca, Latin America’s second largest airline, has filed for bankruptcy and major US carriers are calling on billions in US Treasury aid to limp through.

The region also risks exacerbating long standing skills shortages as operators are left with little choice but to furlough or lay off frontline ramp teams to offset a devastating loss of PAX volumes.

So, how does this proud community find a way back? GHI will unite key aviation players in the Americas region to find the answers through a special virtual conference debate. The Webinar session will provide an essential forum for stakeholder collaboration during a time of unprecedented crisis.

The session will be held on the dates originally scheduled for GHI’s 6th Americas Conference in Buenos Aires, which has been postponed because of the pandemic.

The Webinar will be held in a spirit of defiance and unity among the Americas aviation community to find a way through the storm. Contributions from leading airlines, GSPs, airport operators and GSE manufacturers.
