Luxury Rarotonga Accommodation! (Muri Beach & Night Markets) | Cook Islands Ep. 5 of 7

Rarotonga accommodation options — there’s resorts, holiday homes and hotels all over, but our favourite accommodation in the Cook Islands is this luxury villa on Muri Beach: ⬇ More Below ⬇

Welcome back to the Cook Islands and our 5th episode of 7 in this series of travel vlogs. We’ve tackled Aitutaki for the most part so far, so it’s time for Rarotonga and hunting out some luxury accommodation RIGHT on Muri Beach, the award-winning Te Vakaroa villas.

As we mentioned above, the cool thing about Rarotonga is how the accommodation mix has changed in recent years. There’s now some great holiday homes (some with pools even), cheaper back packing options, villas like this one and less expensive, and full blown family resort styles too. There’s an option for everyone. But if you’re wanting luxury, beach front living and proximity to walk and explore check out Te Vakaroa Villas. We actually spotted these villas last time we were in Rarotonga and made a note to check them out next time, safe to say it was worth looking into!

We were hosted by Cook Islands Tourism to assist in making this travel series in Aitutaki and Rarotonga, but as always we have full editorial control over what we film, what we say, and how we share the experience with you in these vlogs. There’s loads of incredible info about the Cook Islands here for your own holiday —

Discovering MURI LAGOON, RAROTONGA, Cook Islands in 4K

Join us as we take a Muri Lagoon cruise on a glass bottom boat from Rarotonga, Cook Islands with a stop at a small motu (Koromiri) for lunch.

The volcanic island of Rarotonga stands over 14,750 feet (4,500 meters) above the ocean floor. It is 32 km (20 miles) in circumference and has an area of 67.19 km2 (26 square miles). At a depth of 4,000 m (13,000 ft) the volcano is nearly 50 km (31 miles) in diameter. Te Manga, at 658 m (2,140 ft) above sea level, is the highest peak on the island.

The island is surrounded by a lagoon, which often extends more than a hundred metres to the reef, then slopes steeply to deep water. Along the southeast coast off Muri Beach are four small coral islets within a few hundred metres of the shore and within the fringing coral reef.
Rarotonga is the most populous island of the Cook Islands. Captain John Dibbs, master of the colonial brig Endeavour, is credited as the European discoverer on 25 July 1823, while transporting the missionary Rev. John Williams.

Rarotonga | Cook Islands - Paradise in the Pacific

Subscribe to Global Travel Stories and join the adventures around the globe! If you are enjoying this video/series please share us with friends and family on social media.

In this special episode we head to a tropical PARADISE in the Pacific known as Rarotonga, in the Cook Islands. Here we explore the underwater treasures the island holds scuba diving reefs and wrecks. We surprise my brother and his wife hijacking their honeymoon with their daughter and our parents.

Disaster strikes whilst Kayaking on the reef. I recover well enough to undertake a cross island hike over mountainous rainforest. We learn the Polynesian history and culture of the island with some spectacular performances at a local Marae. So much adventure and beauty in one package on this episode!

Chapters:

Introduction 0:00

Arrival & Advanced Scuba Course 1:45

We arrive in Rarotonga and stay at the Rarotongan Beach Resort and Lagoonarium. The following day Miranda undertakes her PADI Advanced Scuba diving course with Dive Rarotonga. I observe underwater as we spot Green Sea Turtles and numerous marine species.

Scuba Day 2 & the Matai Ship Wreck 6:03

We enter into deeper waters this time around diving to advanced scuba depths and spotting many more marine species including a large Moray Eel. Afterwards we explore the century old wreck of the Matai and witness how nature has reclaimed the ship into the reef.

Honeymoon Surprise 10:38

We surprise my brother Dean and his wife Grace as we join their family honeymoon vacation with our parents.

Rarotonga & Markets 14:45

We check out some sights throughout Rarotonga and visit the night markets where we get to sample some delicious local cuisine.

Snorkelling the Lagoonarium 19:12

From our resort we head out and snorkel on the lagoon, encountering a large school of striped large eyed bream. The snorkelling here is AMAZING! Afterwards we head out for dinner at our favourite restaurant on the island.

Kayaking + accident 23:29

I head out onto the lagoon with the kayak, this pristine paradise turns dangerous when I run into a problem out on the reef!

Cross Island Hike (via the needle) 28:36

We set out to hike across the island via the Cross Island Trail. This takes us through thick rainforest and high rocky peaks. We spot plenty of birdlife and waterfalls on this trail. A real highlight of our trip!

Highland Paradise Polynesian Dinner 35:14

We head to a small Polynesian settlement and Marae where we are taught about the traditional history, customs and culture. Afterwards we have a traditional dinner and cultural performance. The perfect way to end our time in Paradise.

Join us in the next episode as we return back to New Zealand for an epic Winter and Spring!

Island Paradise in Rarotonga Cook Islands ????????

We had an incredible 8-night getaway in Rarotonga, our first time in the Cook Islands. This island, surrounded by the most stunning crystal-clear lagoon, was totally worth the long journey. We hopped on a flight from SFO to Honolulu, had a quick layover, and finally landed in Rarotonga.

During our stay, we tried out three awesome accommodations in different parts of the island, which added some variety to our trip. But the highlight was the fantastic tour with Captain Tamas Lagoon Cruises. Seriously, it was a blast! The guides were not just informative but also super entertaining, making the day unforgettable.

If you're thinking about a trip to the Cook Islands, be ready for beautiful beaches, fantastic snorkeling spots, delicious food, and some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet. We had an amazing time, and you can bet we're coming back! Thank you for watching!

First step was jumping on our Jetstar flight to Rarotonga from Auckland, arriving at the airport it was clear how special this trip was going to be. The people of Rarotonga are so friendly, warm, personable and welcoming — even so late in the evening!

Special thanks to Jetstar for helping us get to Rarotonga and show off this beautiful place!

Theres lots of Rarotonga hotels and resorts, but we knew Muri beach was a spot we wanted to be close to. Then we found Pacific Resort Rarotonga and instantly knew it would be a winner! Our flight arrived while it was already dark though, so we weren't initially able to see how beautiful the hotel resort setup was until the next day... as you would have seen, we were pretty bloody happy with it!

Pacific Resort Rarotonga was kind enough to allow us to film their resort and take us out on a lagoon tour while hosting us, if you're looking at a trip to Rarotonga definitely check it out, it's the perfect spot on Muri Beach —

Snorkeling Rarotonga, Cook Islands | Aroa, Muri, Black Rock, Tikioki, Turoa

In this video, we will show you the best snorkeling spots in Rarotonga.

We think that the 5 best snorkeling spots in Rarotonga are Aroa Beach, Muri Beach, Black Rock, Tikioki Beach, and Turoa Beach.

Our favorite snorkeling location in Rarotonga, Cook Islands is Aroa Beach, it has the best visibility and the most amount of diversity in fish.

The coral reefs in Rarotonga are colorful, vibrant and full of fish.

It has the most beautiful reefs in the world and a must-see for any snorkeling fan.

Rarotonga in the Cook Islands will provide you with world-class snorkeling and will triumph most of its competitors.

Maui is also a great place for snorkeling, we have snorkeled in Maui plenty of times and it simply doesn't compare to the Cook Islands.

Cook Islands BEST KEPT SECRET PARADISE: Aitutaki

The Cook Islands are somewhat unknown in the South Pacific, but they have a secret tropical paradise known as Aitutaki. It has the most beautiful lagoon, crystal clear tropical water, and perfect sandy beaches.

If you can't afford to stay on the island, you can take a day excursion or day trip to Aitutaki and see things much more affordably. You'll have to fly in and out on the same day, but we thought it added to the adventure!

Koromiri in Muri beach Cook Islands snorkeling walking around tour

Finally I got to another side of Koromiri island at Muri beach in Cook Islands. It is so beautiful. A super shallow lagoon is surrounded by tons of corals and rocks. There're actually ppl here resting but mostly locals who know the location that's less crowed and more remote. There are bleached white dry woods laying on the shore so you can take beautiful photos. Highly recommend wearing shoes if you're gonna walk over into the lagoon to the outer coral ring, becuz there may be stones fishes.
