Το νησάκι Βενέτικο βρίσκεται στα νότια της Χίου, 1.5 ναυτικό μίλι από το ακρωτήριο Ουρά που αποτελεί το νοτιότερο σημείο της Χίου. Το μήκος του από το βορειότερο έως το νοτιότερο άκρο είναι 170 μέτρα ενώ από το ανατολικότερο προς το δυτικότερο 233 μέτρα. Το ύψος του είναι 78 μέτρα. Στο ψηλότερο μέρος βρίσκεται ένας παλιός φάρος η πρόσβαση στον οποίο γίνεται μέσω μονοπατιού (χρόνος διαδρομής 15 λεπτά). Ο φάρος κάνει 2 αναλαμπές κάθε 15 δευτερόλεπτα έχοντας εμβέλεια 9 ναυτικών μιλίων. Το νησάκι έχει αρκετά χαρακτηριστικά βιότοπου καθώς μπορείτε να δείτε φωλιές από γλάρους και γεράκια. Η πρόσβαση πάνω σε αυτό γίνεται από το Νότιο μέρος.

Venetiko islet is located south of Chios, 1.5 nautical miles from the cape of Oura, the southernmost point of Chios. Its length from the northern to the southernmost end is 170 meters, while from the eastern to the westernmost 233 meters. Its height is 78 meters. In the upper part there is an old lighthouse accessed via a trail (15 minutes walk). The lighthouse flashes 2 flashes every 15 seconds with a range of 9 nautical miles. The islet has several habitat features as you can see nests of gulls and hawks. Access to this is done from the South.

Τα Μεστά είναι το πιο καλοδιατηρημένο «Μαστιχοχώρι» της Χίου. Είναι μεσαιωνικό χωριό, από τα ωραιότερα καστροχώρια του νησιού. Το χωριό, το οποίο δεσπόζει σε μια μικρή κοιλάδα, κτίστηκε στα βυζαντινά χρόνια, σε πενταγωνικό και κλειστό τετράπλευρο σχήμα με δαιδαλώδη εσωτερικά δρομάκια, ενώ τα σπίτια που ήταν χτισμένα από την εξωτερική πλευρά έπαιζαν το ρόλο τείχους, έτσι δεν είχαν παράθυρα προς τα έξω. Οι Γενουάτες βελτίωσαν την οχύρωση του χωριού, το οποίο δεχόταν επιδρομές πειρατών. Στις εξωτερικές γωνίες του χωριού υπήρχουν μικροί κυκλικοί πύργοι. Η άμυνα γινόταν από τα δώματα, όπως και η υποχώρηση προς τον κεντρικό πύργο. Θολοσκεπείς στοές με θυρίδες για τόξα διαμορφώνονταν στις θέσεις που το περιμετρικό όριο της άμυνας περιοριζόταν σ' ένα τοίχο. Το ιδιαίτερο στοιχείο του χωριού είναι η αρχιτεκτονική του, καθώς τα σπίτια είναι χτισμένα πολύ κοντά το ένα στο άλλο, ενώ επικοινωνούν μεταξύ τους με πολύ στενά, σκεπαστά δρομάκια, τους «θόλους». Λόγοι αμυντικοί επέβαλαν την δυνατότητα κινήσεως πάνω στα δώματα των σπιτιών, την ενιαία δηλαδή στάθμη τους σ' όλο τον οικισμό. Οι δρόμοι που συνδέουν την κεντρική πλατεία του πύργου και στις πύλες του οικισμού είναι λίγοι και στενοί. Απ' αυτούς ξεκινούν άλλοι, ακόμα στενότεροι που καταλήγουν σε αδιέξοδο ή σε cul-de sac και από τους οποίους γίνεται η προσπέλαση των σπιτιών.

Mesta is a Greek traditional village in Chios. It belongs to Mastic Villages a group of villages in South Chios where the main activity is the agriculture of mastic.Mesta is characterised by particular architecture since it is a village-castle with perfectly preserved medieval architecture.The village was probably built in the 12th century during Byzantine era. The architecture of settlement with the narrow streets and the perimetric fortification served to repel the pirate raids. The street plan of the village is pentagonical and the many narrow roads inside the fortification give the impression of a labyrinth.

Η Βολισσός είναι το μεγαλύτερο χωριό της βορειοδυτικής Χίου, σε οδική απόσταση 42 χιλιομέτρων από την πόλη. Το μεσοσταθμικό υψόμετρο του χωριού είναι 100 μέτρα πάνω από την επιφάνεια της θάλασσας, από την οποία απέχει 2 χιλιόμετρα.
Η Βολισσός είναι κτισμένη αμφιθεατρικά στην πλαγιά λόφου, στην κορυφή του οποίου σώζεται ερειπωμένο βυζαντινό κάστρο, σχήματος τραπεζίου με έξι κυκλικούς πύργους. Κτίστηκε κατά τους Βυζαντινούς χρόνους. Κατά την παράδοση θεωρείται έργο του στρατηγού Βελισσάριου (6ος αι.), η χρονολογία κατασκευής του ανάγεται ωστόσο από την έρευνα με μεγαλύτερη πιθανότητα στον 11ο αι., περίοδο γενικής αναδιοργάνωσης του νησιού. Κατά τα μέσα του 15ου αι. το κάστρο επισκευάστηκε από τους Γενουάτες. Η Βολισσός είναι κτισμένη στη θέση μικρής αρχαίας πόλης που ονομαζόταν Βόλισσος ή Βολίσκος και αναφέρεται από την παράδοση ως τόπος όπου έζησε ο Όμηρος: «εν τούτω τω πολισματίω τας διατριβάς εποιείτο» (Στέφανος Βυζάντιος).
Το 412 π.Χ. έγινε στην παραλία της Βολίσσου απόβαση των Αθηναίων, που νίκησαν τους αποστατήσαντες από τη συμμαχία τους Χίους και ερήμωσαν την περιοχή: «Αποβάντες και εν Βολίσσω τους προσβοηθήσαντας των Χίων μάχη νικήσαντες και πολλούς διαφθείραντες, ανάστατα εποίησαν τα ταύτη χωρία» (Θουκυδίδης, Η΄ 24)
Ο ομώνυμος όρμος υπήρξε επί Βυζαντινής Αυτοκρατορίας θέατρο πολεμικών επιχειρήσεων κατά των πειρατών (11ος και 12ος αιώνας). Εξάλλου, οι Φράγκοι κατακτητές τον χρησιμοποιούσαν, όπως μαρτυρεί σκοπιωρικός-αμυντικός πύργος που έκτισαν εκεί για τη διευκόλυνση της ναυτιλίας. Υπήρχε ήδη σήραγγα που ένωνε το εσωτερικό του κάστρου με την ακτή. Το 1856 κατά τα λεγόμενα του Fustel de Coulanges, η εκτροφή μεταξοσκωλήκων αποτελούσε την κυριότερη δραστηριότητα των κατοίκων της Βολισσού, αλλά μέχρι το τέλος του αιώνα είχε σχεδόν εκλείψει, όπως και από όλη τη Χίο.
Το έδαφος δεν είναι εύφορο με εξαίρεση τον μικρό κάμπο ως τη θάλασσα, και έτσι τις τελευταίες δεκαετίες υπήρξε μεγάλη μείωση του πληθυσμού, όταν οι λιγοστές καλλιέργειες δημητριακών, καπνού, μπαχαρικών, εσπεριδοειδών και η παραγωγή ξυλείας έπαψαν να είναι ανταγωνιστικές. Οι κάτοικοι της Βολισσού ασχολούνται επίσης παραδοσιακά με την αγγειοπλαστική και την καλαθοπλεκτική. Η περιοχή επωφελείται από τη γειτνίαση της Ιεράς Μονής Αγίας Μαρκέλλας (6 χιλιόμετρα δυτικά), τόπο του μαρτυρίου της Αγίας, που αποτελεί προσκύνημα για όλο το νησί της Χίου κάθε καλοκαίρι. Οι ενοριακοί ναοί της Βολισσού τιμώνται στο όνομα του Αγίου Γεωργίου, της Κοιμήσεως της Θεοτόκου και (ο κυριότερος) της Μεταμορφώσεως του Σωτήρος.

Volissos is the largest village in the northwest part of Chios-Greece. The village is situated 40 km away from the main town of Chios. Volissos has a port called Limia that connects the island with the island of Psara. Saint Markella of Chios lived in the village. Volissos is claimed to be one of the possible birthplaces of the famous poet Homer. According to the famous historian Herodotus, in one of his chapters refers that Homer lived and wrote his marvelous epics in this village. The village is built in amphitheatrical style on a hill and on top of it there is a Byzantine castle built in the medieval times. According to tradition it is considered a project of General Velissarios (6th century), however based on research is most possible that its construction dates back to the 11th century during a period of general reorganisation of the island. In the mid-15th century the Castle was restored by the Genoese. The castle has a trapezoid shape with six circular towers. Volissos is situated about 1,5 km away from the seaside and its port. Inside the village the main square is called Christos square and the next large one is called Pythonas square. Each square has its own church.
Mountains dominate the northwestern part of Chios including the highest peak on the island at 1267m, the Pellinaion mountain. Limia is the port of Volissos. From the northwest side of the port are the beaches Lefkathia, Limnos, Lampsa, Vakelonas and Aghia Markella, where the monastery of Markella of Chios is established.
