We go on a Highlights of Cartagena, Fortress and Las Bovedas Tour in Columbia.
We were on a 29 day Transatlantic and Panama Canal Cruise on the Emerald Princess.
The tour was $70 US each. We purchased it onboard. It was a good tour, not great. We saw a lot of the old city.

Here in this video I share with you a tourist scam I experienced in Cartagena, Colombia. Please keep in mind you can get scammed anywhere. I almost got scammed $500 in NYC, so it's not just because it happened in Colombia. I was with a few backpackers on Playa de las Americas, when people tried to charge us for even putting our towels on the beach. This is a scam because it's a public beach. The second scam is when people offer you to try or give you as a gift regalo some food. As soon as you try the food you will be charged. I was offered some lobster and oysters on this beach when I said No gracias several times. I finally accepted and then had to pay. It was only a few dollars I paid so it wasn't a big deal. Just keep in mind when you travel that food is rarely offered for free. I also share my experience buying some shrimp ceviche on the beach. Thank you for watching my travel journey. The restaurants, shopping, cafes, and nightlife were INSANE! :) We Salsa'd our asses off at Cafe Havana, ate ceviche every day, and drank some of the best coffee we've ever had! Seriously check out Cafe del Mural, they're coffee's amazing!
I recommend staying on the edge of Manga, close to Getsemani. It's more quiet there and only takes a 5 min walk to get to Getsemani and 10 min to get to historic walled city.

Here's what a full day in Cartagena might look like. From the ceviche, Colombian coffee to the salsa dancing and nightlife. Cartagena and Colombia in general have so much to offer.
The old town, or walled city of Cartagena is the best place to just walk around and explore. There are amazing coffee shops, bars, restaurants...and people-watching. We've also shared one of our favorite rooftop bars!

OUR STORY
Hey! We're Olivia and Nathan ???????? A couple from California.
We met back in 2014 in Monterey, California. I (Olivia) was a senior in college & Nathan had recently moved back to the area after living in Italy.
After a few “deep life talks” (ones that were so foreign to me) and hearing about the lifestyle Nathan had been creating for himself for the last 6 years, I wanted to spend more time with him.
We started dating and I learned how he’d moved to Cambodia when he was 17, Germany when he was 18, Italy when he was 20, and was itching to travel again.
I was fascinated and wondered HOW THE HECK DID THIS GUY PAY FOR ALL OF THAT?
Nathan would work in California for 2 years, save every dollar he could, move abroad, find a job in that country, live there for 1-2 years and then do it all over again. Each time, he’d learn the language of that country, acquire new skills & make lifelong friends.
I was deeply inspired & wanted to travel with him. After 1 year of working our butts off and saving every dollar we could, we moved to Australia. We lived + worked there for 3 years (learned to speak perfect Australian lol) & created online jobs so we could continue traveling full-time.
We were traveling South America when covid hit, flew home and bought an RV to travel the US.

Foodies and salseros, you’re in for a treat! Travel to Colombia in 2020 and join us as we eat and dance our way through Cartagena and Cali.
We arrived in early March 2020 with limited knowledge about the land of Shakira, Maluma, and Pablo Escobar. We thought we were going to eat bandeja paisa everyday. We had so much to learn! And with the COVID pandemic closing borders and shutting down airports, we almost didn’t make it home.

We stayed in both the Getsemaní and Bocagrande areas, a few days each. Bocagrande is a quiet area close to the beaches, just a $2-$3 Uber ride to the historic city center and Getsemaní neighborhood. Staying in Getsemaní makes it easy to walk to the old city center and enjoy the buzzing nightlife.
