Best Hikes in Moab! [Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park]

In this video we list 5 great places to hike in both Arches and Canyonlands National Park. These amazing national parks are located just outside of Moab, Utah. Moab is quite literally an adult adventure playground in an unreal beautiful setting.

Canyonlands National Park

Canyonlands National Park Hikes

Mesa Arch

You may have seen it on your friends' social media accounts, or maybe you have photos of it as your computer background image. It's a popular photo for a reason. Mesa Arch is a spectacular stone arch perched at the edge of a cliff with vast views of canyons, rock spires, and the La Sal Mountains in the distance.

It's also a relatively easy trail to hike at just a half mile (0.8 km) long. Along the way, you'll see signs pointing out some of the common Canyonlands plants and their traditional uses.

During busy seasons, the parking lot at Mesa Arch can fill. If you can't find a parking spot, come back at another time. We recommend visiting early or late in the day.

Grand View Point Trail

Arches National Park Hikes

Park Avenue Trailhead

Just 3.6 miles (5.8 km) after Arches National Park Visitor Center, this is many visitors' first scenic stop. At Park Avenue, you can gaze down a grand boulevard of rock and let your imagination loose. Previous visitors named some of the rock features here Queen Nefertiti, Queen Victoria, and Sausage Rock (also known as The Corndog). What names does your imagination suggest?

Beyond the viewpoint, Park Avenue Trail is a moderate hike past a soaring rock skyline of massive fins and curiously carved towers. The trail descends steeply into the spectacular canyon and continues one mile (1.6 km) to Courthouse Towers Viewpoint. For a roundtrip hike, retrace your steps along the trail rather than walking along the road.

Delicate Arch Hike

This trailhead parking lot is located 13 miles (21 km) from the Arches entrance. The three-mile roundtrip hike (4.8 km) to Delicate Arch begins here. A short walk to Wolfe Ranch and a nearby panel of rock markings (petroglyphs) also begins here. Limited oversize vehicle parking is available across the street from the main lot. Toilets are open year-round. There is no drinking water available at the trailhead.

Double Arch Hike

The Windows Section is located 12 miles (19 km) from the park entrance. Park here for trails to Turret Arch, North Window, South Window, and Double Arch. Limited oversize parking is available at the lower lot near Double Arch. Toilets are open year-round. There is no drinking water available at the trailhead.

Arches National Park Tips | 5 Things to Know Before You Go!

If you're planning a trip to exciting Arches National Park, here are 5 things you need to know before you go!

You'll learn important tips about the crowds, trails, lodging, when to go, and what makes this park so cool.

Check out the Ultimate Arches Trip Planning Guide here:

Get your Arches Itinerary here:

The most AMAZING place in Canyonlands you've NEVER heard of

The most AMAZING place in Canyonlands you've NEVER heard of

Canyonlands National Park is relatively well known. Most people who go to the Moab, Utah area at least make a stop at Canyonlands National Park to see the overlooks at Island in the Sky or to get that iconic photo at Mesa Arch.

And then there's the Needles District. Definitely not the most popular area in the park. When I heard about Salt Creek Trail, no one I talked to knew what I was talking about. The logistics of the Salt Creek Trail were confusing. Permits are required and only go on sale at certain times of the year. The Salt Creek Trail also generally requires a shuttle. And you should probably backpack it. Oh, and then there are bear canisters and water to worry about.

So it sounds like a little too much trouble, huh? Well, as with many outdoor adventures, some of the biggest payoffs require a little more effort than normal. And the Salt Creek Trail is no exception. But it is so worth it. This trip through Canyonlands National Park isn't a backpacking trip. It's an adventure. The first major sight is Kirk's Cabin. This is one of the most well preserved cabins I've seen, including a broken wagon, fireplace and lots and lots of nails, cans, glass and other relics left behind from long ago. No graffiti and no one seems to take anything. It's all there for you to see.

Then you are rewarded with countless ruins. We spotted 7 or more, and only knew about 3 going in. Big Ruin is the largest Native American ruin site in Canyonlands National Park. You can't reach the main site, but there are pottery shards, corn and arrowheads everywhere. You'll surely find a few more surprise ruin sites - including several graineries - as you continue walking to the next major sight; All American Man. All American Man is a red, white and blue pictograph that....well, it looks fake. But it's not. Maybe I should mention here that there are some strange pictographs along this hike. There is a little man with antenna, All American Man and two figures who appear to be in.....all I can think is spaceships. Strange.

After All American Man, you come up to Four Faces. Four Faces is another amazing pictograph set right above yet another ruins site.

Oh, and did I mention the arches? There are nearly as many random arches as there are ruins on this section of the trail. Many were not named on my Gaia.

Then we were at our camp for the night. Luckily there was water just beyond it at Upper Jump.

The next day, we headed to Angel Arch. I won't lie, I was pretty excited. Angel Arch is an enormous natural arch set high up on a cliff. As you can see in the video, Angel Arch appears to have an angel leaning up against one side of it. It's extremely unique. But like many things on the Salt Creek Trail, that's not enough. There is also a stone pillar called Molar Rock at the base of Angel Arch. Honestly, it looks like a heart to me, but I don't get to name it. The combination of Angel Arch and Molar Rock makes for an amazing and other wordly scene, not to mention some really cool pictures.

Then it was back to camp for night two.

Day 3 was mostly walking as fast as we could. The scenery was still spectacular, but we were tired and still had to drive home, so it was heads down and walk forward. We hit Peek A Boo (a cool hole through the rocks complete with pictographs), and then, after a short 3 miles down a sandy road, we were back at the truck.

Canyonlands is amazing. And the Salt Creek Trail gives you some of the most rugged, unique and beautiful sights in the park. If you haven't heard of it, I recommend you check it out. You will not be disappointed.

One Day in Moab, Utah! | Arches & Canyonlands National Park + Corona Arch

Welcome back to another day in Moab, Utah! Our goal for the day was to visit the two most popular parks in the area - Arches & Canyonlands. We started the day by heading to Canyonlands National Park, which is just like it sounds - lots of canyons! We hiked the Grand View Point and the Green River overlook before heading to one of the most popular hikes in the area - Mesa Arch. Since we don't have a 4x4 car or off-roading capabilities, we weren't able to explore any of the areas before Island in the Sky. Our next stop was the more popular of the 2 parks in Moab - Arches National Park! We visited landscape arch and the windows sections, we HIGHLY recommend both of these! We put off visiting Delicate arch because of how busy the area was, with plans to come back the next day.
By the time we got to Arches the next day, the park was closed due to capacity! We didn't' know this park was closing when they were full, which is our mistake for not keeping up with current regulations. Instead of leaving the area early, we decided to do one last arch-related hike - Corona Arch (we thought the name was too fitting for the time we're in). This was a pretty hot hike and there was a lot of direct exposure to the sun, but the reward was totally worth it! Corona Arch turned out to be one of our favorite arches we saw, it just wasn't as popular since it's not in Arches National Park. After our last hike, we started the drive to one of our favorite places in Colorado: Telluride! Make sure to subscribe to see our videos from Colorado. Thanks for watching :)

VANLIFE USA: Arches Nationalpark & Canyonlands • MOAB | VLOG 576

Auf unserer USA Vanlife Reise sind wir in Moab angekommen, erkunden von hier aus den Arches Nationalpark und ebenfalls den Canyonlands Nationalpark.

✘ Beste Reisekreditkarten:
✘ Günstig reisen - so geht's:

Arches National Park vs Canyonlands National Park- 150 Subscriber Special

I just went to Arches and Canyonlands and now I can determine which one I like better. This is just my opinion and I am summing up my experiences and favorite things in the park. From Delicate Arch to Chesler Park, there are great hikes and experiences in these parks near Moab, Utah.

Utah's Wilderness at Canyonlands National Park

Canyonlands National Park was our first stop as we visited Utah's Mighty Five National Parks in the Spring of 2019. In a short time we visited 1. Mesa Arch 2. Grand View Point and 3. Whale Rock.
