BERLIN BUNDESTAG by drone - the most dangerous flight in Germany

#berlin #germany
DON'T TRY TO REPEAT!
Flying over Bundestag without permission is not allowed!

The Reichstag is a historical edifice in Berlin, Germany, constructed to house the Imperial Diet (German: Reichstag) of the German Empire. It was opened in 1894 and housed the Diet until 1933, when it was severely damaged after being set on fire. After World War II, the building fell into disuse; the parliament of the German Democratic Republic (the Volkskammer) met in the Palast der Republik in East Berlin, while the parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany (the Bundestag) met in the Bundeshaus in Bonn.
The ruined building was made safe against the elements and partially refurbished in the 1960s, but no attempt at full restoration was made until after German reunification on 3 October 1990, when it underwent a reconstruction led by architect Norman Foster. After its completion in 1999, it once again became the meeting place of the German parliament: the modern Bundestag.

The Reichstag building in Berlin was constructed to house the Reichstag, the first parliament of the German Empire. It was opened in 1894 and housed the Reichstag until 1933, when it was severely damaged in a fire supposedly set by Dutch communist Marinus van der Lubbe, who was later beheaded for the crime. That verdict has been a subject of controversy over the years. The National Socialist German Workers Party used this event as casus belli to begin a purge of traitors in Berlin and to ban the Communist Party of Germany.

The building remained in ruins until the reunification of Germany, when it underwent reconstruction led by internationally renowned architect Norman Foster. After its completion in 1999, it became the meeting place of the modern German parliament, the Bundestag.

The Reichstag as a parliament dates back to the Holy Roman Empire and ceased to act as a true parliament in the years of the Nazi regime (19331945). In today's usage, the German term Reichstag or Reichstagsgebäude (Reichstag building) refers to the building, while the term Bundestag refers to the institution.

---

Places to see in ( Berlin - Germany ) Reichstag Building

Places to see in ( Berlin - Germany ) Reichstag Building

The Reichstag bears silent witness to the turbulent history of Berlin and is one of the city’s most significant historical buildings. Berlin is the city where German history is written. Where is the best place to experience it? Come and explore the Reichstag. The opening times of the Reichstag dome are daily between 8.00 am and 12 midnight, admission is until 10.00 pm. If you like to be spontaneous, visit the service points at the Berlin Pavillon. Bookings are accepted up to two hours prior to your desired admission time.

The Reichstag is an internationally recognisable symbol of democracy and the current home of the German parliament. Every year, thousands of guests visit the Reichstag - and with good reason: It is not often that you can enjoy such an amazing panorama while, just beneath your feet, the political decisions of tomorrow are being made. Both as an architectural wonder and a historical testimony, the Reichstag has an important role to play in Berlin.

Dome of the Reichstag Berlin © visitberlin, Foto: Wolfgang Scholvien
The original building is designed by Paul Wallot and modelled after the Memorial Hall in Philadelphia. Decorative motifs, sculptures and mosaics are contributed by the artist Otto Lessing. The Reichstag is completed in 1894 although it doesn’t acquire its iconic dedication to “the German People” until 1916 when the words Dem Deutschen Volke are inscribed on its façade. At the time Kaiser Wilhelm II regards the building as “the pinnacle of bad taste”.

The Reichstag serves as the home of the German parliament until 1933 when the building is badly damaged in a fire. This event marks the end of the Weimar Republic and provides a convenient pretext for Hitler to suppress dissent. Under Nazi dictatorship, the building falls into neglect and is severely damaged during the Second World War. In 1945 it becomes one of the primary targets for the Red Army due to its perceived propaganda value.

After the war, West Germany’s parliament is relocated to Bonn, and the building remains a virtual ruin until 1961 when a partial renovation is undertaken in the shadow of the newly erected Wall. Completed in 1964 this controversial restoration sees the building’s interior and exterior stripped of the majority of its statuary. However, the city makes efforts to retain the traces of its more recent history such as the bullet ridden façade and the graffiti left by the occupying Soviet soldiers.

Throughout the cold war period and until the German reunification in 1989 the Reichstag is the site of a permanent exhibition, “Questions about German History” but otherwise sees only occasional ceremonial use. In 1990 the Reichstag is the site of the official reunification ceremony. After another year of intense debate, it is decided that it will once again be the home of the German national parliament. In 1995, just prior to the commencement of Norman Foster’s restoration of the building, artist Christo and his wife Jeanne-Claude wrap the Reichstag in fabric. Foster’s careful restoration and redesign of the building is completed in 1999, and the new German government convenes at the Reichstag for the first time on April the 19th.

Film and light projection in Parliament Quarter Berlin. History from the Reichstag to the Bundestag.

Film and light projection in Parliament Quarter in 2022
A journey through parliamentary history from the Reichstag to the Bundestag.
A film and light show from starting at dusk at the riverbank next to the Reichstag Building.
The Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus in Berlin's parliament district will be transformed into a cinema every day from Sunday, July 3, 2022 until Monday, October 3. Every evening, as darkness falls, a film, light and sound projection begins on the facade of the Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus. The half-hour installation bears the title Dem deutscher Volke - A parliamentary search for clues. From the Reichstag to the Bundestag”. It shows the history of parliamentarism in Germany and the Reichstag building.
This summer, Berlin’s parliamentary district on the banks of the River Spree will again be the backdrop for an impressive film and sound installation about the history of German parliamentarism. Every month, large-format video images will be projected onto the façades of various buildings, accompanied by a multimedia sound and light show – bringing the most important moments in German parliamentary history to life at this historic location at the heart of German democracy.
The Reichstag building in the lead role
From Friedrich-Ebert-Platz and from the Reichstagufer, every spectator can experience important milestones and emotional events in German parliamentary history across the Spree. The film begins with the imperial period at the end of the 19th century, follows the parliamentary development in the Weimar period, leads through the darkest epoch after the National Socialists took power, extends to the division of Germany, shows how it was overcome and the completion of German unity into the present.

The film traces how the Reichstag building was built, destroyed, repaired, wrapped up and converted over the course of this period as the seat of parliament, before finally being revived in 1999 as the seat of parliament for all of Germany.

A whole house as a canvas
In addition to the playing area in the center, the entire Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus is part of the staging. A total of five projection surfaces are used. The largest area is 300 square meters, the smallest 21 square meters. In addition, other motifs are projected onto various parts of the building using laser projectors. The spotlights create an impressive aura and envelop the architecture of the Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus in a special light.

A demonstration lasts around 30 minutes. The film will be shown twice in a row each evening. The spectator area is located on the open staircase on the southern bank of the Spree at Friedrich-Ebert-Platz. The visit is free.

Daily projection starts from:

3 July at 10:15 p.m.,
July 15 at 10 p.m.,
July 29 at 9:45 p.m.,
August 12 at 9:15 p.m.,

A Day in Berlin – What you MUST See: Join Alemanizando on a Special Tour Through the German Capital

What can you do if you have just one day in Berlin? Well, Elissa and Rodrigo from @Alemanizandohave some tips for you! They take you to some famous places and to a few hidden spots in the German capital — like its smallest street.

The Berlin-based couple from Brazil start at the Brandenburg Gate and then go for breakfast in one of Berlin’s major attractions: the Reichstag building. And of course they also visit its glass dome.
Their next stops are the Unter den Linden boulevard, Humboldt University, Bebelplatz and Museum Island. Another hot tip is the Nikolaiviertel, Berlin’s oldest residential quarter. From there it’s just a short walk to Alexanderplatz, where most people would go up to the top of Germany’s tallest building, the TV Tower, to get a good view over the city. But Elissa and Rodrigo have a cheaper workaround for you to get a great alternative view from above!

Not far away on Karl-Marx-Allee — the “first socialist street” on German soil — they feel a bit like they’re in Russia. No wonder, if you see the architecture that dates back to the East Germany era. Then it’s time for dinner in the popular Friedrichshain district before they end their tour at the East Side Gallery, which is both the longest surviving section of the Berlin Wall and also the longest open-air gallery in the world.

Watch this tour of Berlin and let us know in the comments what places YOU would recommend!

Reichstag Building in Berlin, Home of the German Parliament

The Reichstag building is a historical edifice in Berlin, Germany, constructed to house the Imperial Diet, of the German Empire. This imposing building houses the Federal German Parliament or Bundestag and was originally completed in 1894 to meet the need of the newly-unified German Empire of the Kaisers' for a larger parliamentary building. The Reichstag was intended to resemble a Renaissance palace, and its architect, Paul Wallot, dedicated the building to the German people.

The Nazi leader Adolf Hitler exploited the fire which gutted the Reichstag building in 1933 by blaming the Communists for the arson and for attempted revolution. There is good evidence to suggest, however, that his followers were actually responsible and that this was a manufactured crisis. When German reunification became a reality, the new republic was proclaimed here at midnight on the 2nd October 1990.

The Reichstag has undergone considerable restoration and alteration. The building is now the second most visited attraction in Germany (after the Cologne Cathedral), not least because the addition of a spectacular glass dome designed by the British architect Norman Foster. The large glass dome at the very top of the Reichstag has a 360-degree view of the surrounding Berlin cityscape. The main hall of the parliament below can also be seen from inside the dome, and natural light from above radiates down to the parliament floor.

The Reichstag building is well known in the art world thanks to Paris-based Bulgarian artist Christo's mammoth 'Wrapped Reichstag' project in 1995. The entire building was swathed in silver cloth for two weeks that summer. You can visit the dome for free but you will need to register online in advance in order to do so.

Berlin In Your Pocket - Reichstag/Bundestag

In Your Pocket travel writer Andrew Quested in front of the Reichstag, Germany's parliament in Berlin. The name together with its monumental size make most people associate Germany's neoclassical parliamentary building with the Nazis, but Hitler and his party have little history here. After hosting parliamentary sessions since 1894, one month after Hitler was appointed chancellor in January 1933, it was set on fire by Dutch communist Marinus van der Lubbe. In the years during which it abutted the Wall as a conference centre, West Berliners played football on its lawn, while later artist Christo famously wrapped it in cloth. It did not serve as parliament again until a reunited German government returned to Berlin in 1999. Renovated by Sir Norman Foster, this building is perhaps the most public federal building in the world through its glass-dome tourist attraction. On the rooftop, photographs documenting the building's history circle the rim above the parliament chamber. Two ramps spiral up the side of the dome, an engineering feat even more fascinating than the panoramic view from the top. Avoid long queues by arriving early or late, or by booking at the Dachgarten restaurant.
