Brunei's Luxury 7 Star Hotel
Ever wonder what it’s like inside a 7 star hotel? We're taking a look around The Empire Hotel and Country Club, a 7 star luxury hotel in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. This place is huge - there are about 800 staff members and it took six years to build. For those who know golf (that's not me!), the golf course here is world class. The biggest suite is the size of a football field. It has its own pool and I hear the carpet has flecks of real gold in it. Even the lobby is six stories tall. Not too shabby. What do you think? The 7-Star Luxury Hotel in Brunei
The Empire Brunei is Brunei’s premier hotel.
It’s one of the world’s few 7-star hotels, along with Dubai’s Burj al-Arab and Milano’s Galleria Vik. The Empire Brunei is one of a few Bruneian architectural marvels, including the country’s national mosques and Istana Nurul Iman (the world’s largest residential palace).
In this Your World Travel Guide, we’ll cover the Empire Brunei Hotel.
We’ll explore the hotel’s layout, amenities, things to do inside (free entrance for visitors).
The Empire Brunei Hotel has been one of Southeast Asia’s most luxurious hotels since its opening in October 2000. Yet, it’s reasonably priced and accessible to visitors. The hotel (officially the “Empire Brunei Hotel & Country Club”) sits on a massive property featuring many amenities. Guests can entertain themselves for a weekend without leaving the premises.
The property contains a theatre, five swimming pools, squash courts, tennis courts, bowling alleys, grand reception hall and a private beach. Perhaps the hotel’s most notable feature is its 18-hole golf course, called the Empire Country Club - designed by golf legend, Jack Nicklaus, and widely regarded as one of Asia’s best courses.
The hotel has more than 500 rooms, including nearly 50 suites and 16 villas. Its most exclusive room is called the “Emperor Suite”, which has hosted many celebrities and world leaders. The Emperor Suite’s 600 square feet of lavishness include a private pool and cinema. Hotel guests can request a staff-led tour of the suite, provided it’s unoccupied.
The Empire Brunei offers a variety of tours and activity packages to its guests, including hiking, scuba diving and organized trips to Kampong Ayer and Ulu Temburong. There are seven restaurants within the property, providing a range of international cuisine and high tea options.
Visitors (non-hotel guests) may visit the Empire Brunei during the day, free of charge.
The Empire Brunei Hotel is roughly 20 kilometers from Bandar Seri Begawan’s city center, in the Jerudong suburb (near Universiti Brunei Darussalam). All taxi drivers know the hotel. If you have a car, the drive from BSB to the Empire Brunei is easy and can be a convenient stop on your way to Tutong or Belait (Western Brunei).
Taking a bus from the city center is the most budget-friendly option. Just find the green Northern Line buses inside Bandar Seri Begawan’s Main Station. The bus will pass Brunei International Airport and drop you off at the Empire Brunei’s grand entrance.
Your third option is Dart, Brunei’s ride-sharing app (Uber and Grab are unavailable in Brunei). To learn about or download the Dart app.

In this Brunei Travel vlog, we left Kuala Belait and arrived in the eastern part of the country. Here we visited the Empire Hotel Brunei which is considered to be the best hotel and resort in the country with a room going for $300/night and upwards! This is probably how the Sultan of Brunei lives too... The Empire Brunei is located on the northern coast of the country and has an amazing private beach which any guests (both staying over and those visiting for the day on a package) can enjoy. Since we were visiting only for a couple of hours, we decided to enjoy the elegant high tea experience. The chocolate macarons were so delicious! Later, we headed to Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei Darussalam and checked into the cheapest hotel we'd found in the whole country - Easy Box Hotel. After we bid goodbye to our uncle and aunty we enterred the hotel. The room was so small, it was shocking ???? but it was in the perfect location - so not complaining much! Our visit to Brunei is now halfway through!
