Tortola belongs to the country of The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (commonly known as United Kingdom , UK, Britain) is the largest and most populated of the British Virgin Islands, Christopher Columbus named it Santa Ana, Tortola, meaning land of the Turtle Dove, The later Dutch settled and called it Ter Tholen, after a coastal island forming part of the west coast of the Netherlands. When the British took over, they altered the name to its present-day Tortola.

Road Town, British Virgin Islands - Exploring Tortola and a Visit to Cane Garden Bay ????????
Our visit to Road Town on the beautiful island of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands ????
Road Town in the British Virgin Islands was a port of call on our Caribbean cruise aboard the MSC Seaview. Lots of cruise lines other than @msccruises stop in Tortola.
We actually had 2 stops in Road Town. On the first one, we did a cruise excursion which took us on a tour of the island of Tortola and to Cane Garden Bay Beach. On the second visit, we spent some time exploring Road Town.
Road Town is the capital of the British Virgin Islands and is the main port on the island of Tortola. Most cruise ships visiting the islands dock here. The cruise port is called Tortola Pier Park and there's lots of great shops and restaurants.
Tortola Pier Park leads you straight out into downtown Road Town. It's a small enough city so it's easy to explore on foot. The locals are friendly and they won't bother you trying to sell you things like in other ports.
Our excursion took us around the island of Tortola taking in views of the surrounding islands. We spent a few hours at Cane Garden Bay Beach which boasts one of the finest beaches in the Caribbean. The picturesque bay has restaurants and bars dotted along the beach. It's the perfect location to watch the sunset over the Caribbean.
Road Town is a small enough but there are some sights if you want to have a look around. Old Government House is a museum which gives some great history of the island and the role of the British Virgin Islands as a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean.
The JR O'Neal Botanical gardens are small but quite beautiful. The 1780 Lower Estate Sugar Works tell the history of sugar production on the island however the museum was closed because of hurricane damage when we visited.
I enjoyed walking around Road Town and taking in the atmosphere. It's a quaint city and the people are friendly. There's not a whole lot in the way of landmarks and attractions but it's worth seeing. Further afield in the British Virgin Islands, there's beaches, rainforests and the other islands to explore. ????️

We stopped at Soper's Hole, Tortola in our boat to clear customs before continuing into the British Virgin Islands. This is a great marina to stop in and is the home of Pusser's Rum. CRUISE: TORTILLA BVI, Island Bus Tour Excursion
Though there are signs of what the disaster had been when hit by Irma, with car parks full of upturned and crushed cars and debris, the island is back welcoming tourists. There is one main road out of the capital, round the coast, up into the mountains, across the island down and back, so all Island bus excursions are the same, but differ by guide and stops. There is normally always a short beach stop, and this is the beach some cruisers head to.

Thank you for viewing this video about my sailing cruise travels aboard the Guiding Light. In this video, we will start exploring Tortola's eastern islands as we continue traveling through the British Virgin Islands.
As we begin our sailing cruise, we first visit the Dogs, a group of uninhabited islands in the Sir Francis Drake Channel. After enjoying some snorkeling there, we move on to Marina Key and then to Beef Island. Later, we stop at Trellis Bay and Monkey Point, which is another fantastic snorkeling point.
