TRIP REPORT | Perfect Long-Haul on A380! | London to San Francisco | British Airways A380

British Airways Trip Report flying from London to San Francisco, onboard one of the amazing British Airways A380's, on a beautiful spring afternoon.

A very comfortable flight from London to San Francisco onboard the British Airways A380. We were lucky enough to have the middle seat empty during the flight which increased even more the comfort. However, I must say that the British Airways A380 cabin was the worst A380 cabin I've seen to date: the legroom could be better and the IFE is extremely outdated (not even tactile...).

We took off from Heathrow towards the east and quickly made a left turn to fly towards the north of England. We left the UK over the Glasgow area. From there we flew towards the south of Iceland and Greenland. We flew over the south of Greenland, next to Cape Farell. The views were more than amazing. We saw the Sea Ice, glaciers, mountains, bays... Greenland is one of the most amazing places in the World to see from the sky.

From there we crossed the Labrador Sea heading towards Canada. We reached Newfoundland and Labrador around 1h30min after Greenland. Here we could see again the Sea Ice. But this time it was the real one: millions of small pieces of ice floating over the sea, moved by the ocean currents. What a beautiful planet we have!

Afterwards, we flew over Quebec and Ontario, before entering the US. We flew over the States of North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Nevada, and, finally, California. We landed around 20 minutes late in San Francisco after a beautiful approach over the Bay.

About the onboard service, the lunch was served just after takeoff. There were 2 options: chicken or pasta. I took the chicken option. It came with some potatoes and beans. The salad was based on some cereal that I couldn't identify. The dessert was a tiny chocolate mousse. It was tasty, but it was really small. Everything together was a very small portion.

1h before landing in San Francisco, which means around 8h after the first meal, the crew offered the second service. It really surprised me that it was again another full warm meal (without bread and butter). I chose the chicken option again. On this occasion, it was a chicken curry with rice. It came with a quinoa salad with a base of yogurt, and an apple crumble as dessert.

The most awkward moment of the flight, without a doubt, was when they passed the coffee & tea service. I asked for a coffee and when they passed it to me it fell completely over me. Luckily it wasn't very warm and it didn't injure me at all. They offered me a 1st Class pijama that you'll be able to see on the Trip Report. The strangest moment in my more than 1.500 flights? Probably yes :)

Now it's your turn! Have you ever flown with British Airways? How was your experience? Which route and airplane model? Have you ever flown in business class? Do you think it's worth the money? Have you been in London? Maybe in Vienna? What was the most awkward situation you had on a plane?
Lots of things to talk about! Read you all in the comments!

British Airways says goodbye to G-CIVD - The first of its last 747 jumbo jets

British Airways has retired its first Boeing 747 since announcing last month that all 31 of its jumbo jets had sadly flown their last commercial services.

The Boeing 747-400, registration G-CIVD, departed from London Heathrow on Tuesday, 18 August at around 10.30am local time after more than 25 magnificent years of flying.

The 747 has been an iconic part of British Airways’ fleet for nearly fifty years. At one point the airline operated 57 of the aircraft, with the jumbo jet’s first flight to New York in 1971.

The fuel-hungry aircraft are slowly being phased out by British Airways as they reach the end of their working life in order to help meet our commitment to net zero by 2050. The airline has invested heavily in new, modern long-haul aircraft including six A350s and 32 787s which are around 25 per cent more fuel-efficient than the 747.

British Airways: From one 99-year-old to another…

One 99-year-old kicked off her milestone birthday celebrations early after British Airways surprised her with a very special trip.

Mary Parsons from Malvern in Worcestershire turns 100 years old on January 1, 2019, the same year that the airline also celebrates its centenary. British Airways ambassador, Derek Tennant, surprised Mary at her ‘Friends of the Elderly’ care home in Davenham and revealed that he was taking her to Belfast to see her family.

The food was good, not like when I flew from JFK to CDG… I hope you'll like this one and please subscribe, comment and share ;) (like on the LHR SFO video, for the meals something strange happened but can not fix it...)

AMAZING SAVE BY BA PILOT - HOLD TIGHT!

AMAZING RECOVERY FROM WINDSHEAR

This video catches an Airbus A320 on approach to London Heathrow Runway 27L during Storm Doris. Captured during our live show on Big Jet TV in Feb 2017

We got this explanation from a seasoned Pilot...”I dont know what the ATIS (Automatic Terminal Information Service) was giving. If the wind was out of limits and it was reporting Windshear, then he’s a bit crazy for not going-around earlier. However if all was within limits and he caught the shear then that’s an excellent job”

IN SHORT...

“From what I can see, it looks like an excellent recovery from some severe windshear at the threshold - and quick reaction with TOGA!”
