Wired Warriors: The Internet Indians Leading The Fight for Amazonia | Full Documentary

The internet is our weapon. We no longer fight with bows and arrows, says Benki Piyako, son of the Ashaninka chieftain in the Brazilian Amazon rainforest. We are only safe on our territory if we are connected. The Ashaninka live in the Brazilian-Peruvian border region. Their region is rich in valuable tropical timber and regularly attracts illegal logging teams. Wherever the Indians stand in the way of the timber mafia, their villages are attacked and the people killed or chased away.

This changed a few years ago when a Brazilian NGO began equipping isolated indigenous peoples with internet stations. Since then, the rainforest inhabitants have been able to ask the authorities for help. Illegal loggers are now being caught because the military and police arrive by helicopter in Indian territory within a very short time and catch resource pirates in the act. The fight for the rights of the indigenous peoples received a decisive boost, and the Ashaninka in particular made headlines because they demonstrated how Indian traditions can be combined with modern awareness and responsibility for the environment.

Today, the two sons of the chiefs, Benki and Moises Piyako, are ensuring that more and more Indian communities are equipped with the Internet. They have also founded an environmental school where they teach methods of sustainable agriculture, made their villages self-sufficient again, started reforestation and

Brazil (South-America) Vacation Travel Video Guide

✱ 59/874 Hotels in Brazil - Lowest Price Guarantee ►

Travel video about destination Brazil.
Brazil is a country of both the superlative and also amazing contrast, with dynamic metropolises, cultural centres and untouched nature. It is the largest country on the South American Continent. We begin our journey in Rio De Janeiro, the secret capital of Brazil, a veritable firework display of unashamed joie de vivre, football, samba and religion. The focal point of today’s Rio is the monumental glass cone of the Catedral Metropolitana that measures eighty metres high and looks like a Mexican pyramid. The Rua Do Ouvidor, with its elegant old buildings and splendid shops, is a reminder of the city’s historical and commercial importance. Portuguese settlers founded the city and sugar cane and gold made Rio’s colonial rulers extremely rich. In former times the coastal towns were protected by fortresses and canons. Paraty was one of those romantic locations, south of Rio on the Costa Verde, a gem dating back to Brazil’s colonial times. Around five hundred kilometres north of Rio and deep within the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, is a most remarkable place. Ouro Preto was discovered at the end of the seventeenth century by Portuguese gold prospectors who discovered ‘black gold’ that changed colour due to its iron content. São Paulo is one of the mega cities of the twenty first century and with a population of twenty million it is the economic heart of Brazil. The railway helped to transport cotton and later coffee, and its large station, with British-designed clock tower, became an important symbol. Brazil is synonymous with sunshine, samba and exotic nature, a dream destination full of both adventure and constant fun!

Day in the Life of an Amazon Jungle Tribe!

???? Tijuana Migrant Camps ►
✈️ How I Started Traveling ►
???? My New Food Channel ► @GarethEats

This is a day in the life of the indigenous Sápara tribe who live within the Ecuadorian Amazon.

Today, their population totals less than 700 people, across 22 communities, and they are constantly battling to keep their culture, traditions and territory in-tact in an ever pressing capitalist world.

The Sápara, also known as Zápara or Záparo, once occupied some 12,000 mi² between the Napo River and the Pastaza in the Amazon rainforest along the border of Ecuador and Peru.

Early in the 20th century, there were some 200,000 Zapara. From the year 2009 on the Ecuadorian Zápara call themselves Sápara. The official name is Nación Sápara del Ecuador (NASE).

The Sápara people have a distinct language, known as Sápara, which is considered critically endangered with only a few fluent speakers remaining. They have a unique cosmology that revolves around their close relationship with the natural world, viewing themselves as an integral part of the forest ecosystem.

They possess extensive knowledge of the medicinal properties of plants and have a profound understanding of the intricate balance of the rainforest.

However, the Sápara people face numerous challenges, including encroachment on their lands by extractive industries, deforestation, and the loss of their cultural heritage. Despite these pressures, the Sápara people continue to fight for their rights, seeking recognition and protection of their territory, language, and way of life. Efforts are being made to preserve their culture and support their sustainable practices, ensuring the survival and well-being of the Sápara people and their unique contributions to the world.

About Brazil and Chill-out Music: Brazil, a vast South American country, stretches from the Amazon Basin in the north to vineyards and massive Iguaçu Falls in the south. Rio de Janeiro, symbolized by its 38m Christ the Redeemer statue atop Mount Corcovado... Vibrant São Paulo is packed with shops, restaurants and cultural institutions including the noted Museum of Art. Brazils capital, Brasília, is a planned city with modernist buildings by Oscar Niemeyer. The northeastern state of Bahia, known for beaches and dense Amazon rainforest, reflects African influences in its capoeira martial arts, axé dance music and moqueca (a coconut milk-seafood stew). Its capital, Salvador, retains its 16th- and 17th-century core. Farther north are Alagoas coral reefs, Maranhãos sand dunes and Portuguese colonial town Olinda. // Chill-out (shortened as chill; also typeset as chillout or chill out) is a loosely defined form of popular music characterized by slow tempos and relaxed moods... Chillwave was an ironic term coined in 2009 for music that could already be described with existing labels such as dream pop... lo-fi hip hop or chillhop became popular among YouTube users. The Amazon’s Boiling River Kills Anything That Enters

When Andrés Ruzo was a boy, his grandfather would tell him tales of a mythical city of gold deep in the heart of the Peruvian jungle. Though never believing the stories to be true, the legend of the lost city stuck with him into adulthood. Years later, as a geothermal scientist, Ruzo decided to investigate. To his surprise, he discovered an incredulous river deep in the Amazon, with water hot enough to kill a human. Historically a place of pilgrimage for shamans and sorcerers, the river now faces increasing threats from poachers, loggers and squatters. Now, Ruzo is working hard to protect it.

On Deep canyons cut into the Andes cordillera from the north to the south of Peru. In order to supply the gold mines, tend their vines or quite simply gain access to their villages, people have no choice but to take the most improbable of roads, hewn out of the rock. Major companies always find their place at the end of the road, attracted by the fabulous natural resources of the country, either under the ground with its wealth of precious metals or in its waters teeming with fish. However, it’s rare for all this wealth to benefit the lowly workers, the men and women who have to bend double to work deep in the shafts, scratching at the earth amidst clouds of ammonia, or risk their lives at the end of a 200’ rope, for a handful of euros. From the Maranon River valley to the Cotahuasi canyon, by way of the Paracas desert, this Impossible Road makes its way through a Peru of magnificent landscapes, but where life comes at a high price…
