BRAZIL AMAZON MANAUS
Manaus is the capital of the Brazilian state of Amazon. It is located at the mouth of the Rio Negro in the Rio Solimões. From there the river is called Amazonas. Impressive is the width of the river 1,500 km of air line from the mouth to the ocean. Manaus is a large city in the Amazon, but a lovely and friendly city that invites you to an impressive river landscape.
The main attractions are the theater from the great times of the rubber barons, the market with everything the Amazon offers, and the atmosphere at the port, were people and goods spread to all directions.

Old (and I think decrepit) Hotel Tropical is located on the Rio Negro River, way...outside of Manaus Center. (Rumor is the hotel will be bankrupt by the end of 2016.)
Intensely disliked the hotel but there are several excellent shops in its outside shopping plaza. Particularly, Seringueira Jewelry store where owner spent considerable time explaining Amazonian jewelry and history even though I only purchased an $8 bracelet.

Brazil. In the centre of the Amazon is Manaus, with over 100,000 wooden buildings. Riverboats with tourists. Man serves another man coffee in a small cup. Large boats. Melons, bundles of jute for mattresses and burlap, rubber, bananas. Market. Bus. Street scenes of Manaus. Portuguese colonial buildings. Manaus was the rubber capital of the world. Theatre. Boat houses of fishermen. Ocean going ships.

The voice belonged to Ralf, our native-born guide to the waterways and canopies of this slice of the Amazon rainforest.
One thousand glittering eyes stared like riverside starlight: spiders lit up by Ralf’s solitary torch as our canoe drifted into stillness.

The Amazon basin covers 2.7 million square kilometres, the forest 2.1 square million km. This is more than half of all the world’s rainforests, supplying 20% of our planet’s oxygen and providing a home to approximately 10 million species of animals, plants and insects, in other words, 10% of all the known species in the world.

The Amazon refers to the river, Amazonia to the forest and Amazonas refers to the region in Brazil, owner of 60% of the forest land. That includes the part where I found myself in a hammock, socks pulled over my trousers, doing anything to avoid a bite.

But for all the fame, the serious stats, the dizzying diversity and the bustle and hustle of Manaus, there is one question that remains: what is there to do in the Amazon rainforest?
With no safari style big game, few bright flowers and a rightfully dutiful eco-tourism, you could be forgiven for thinking that the only thing to see is 2.1 square kilometres of green.
After a boat ride, a van, and a boat through said water and air-based green, I can spill the brazil nut beans. I can tell you all about the tourist attractions in the Amazon rainforest.
And in the spirit of the place, let’s start with a proverb:
“When it comes to the jungle,” says Ralf. “Everything takes patience.”

The Heart of Amazon - Manaus, Brazil
Manaus lies in the heart of Amazon. This is where most people go to get into the Amazon. A lot of river boats depart from here and it's the biggest metropolitan area in this part of Brazil. In the morning the harbor gets busy with all the boats stocking up and getting ready for next trip. The market is also full of activity offering all kinds of food, like the mountain of bananas that can be seen in this movie. Manaus also feature a world famous Opera house in the center of town with a very special architecture.

AMAZON RAINFOREST EXPERIENCE in Manaus, Brazil
This is to share my captivating and amazing Amazon Raiforest experience in Manaus Brazil. Accompanied by a native Naturalist of Manaus, Brazil, we had a guided walk inside the raiforest and shown to the native fauna & flora that thrive in the Amazon. We were thought several survival technique too. The experience was a 3 nights package catered by Ecopark Jungle Lodge on the bank of Rio Negro inside the Amazonian rainforest.
