SAFARI in BOTSWANA: Travel Guide for 4x4 camper ROAD TRIP to see ALL animals!

Welcome to Africa and welcome to wildlife paradise! Botswana is one of the best countries in the world for safari drives. In this video you'll see our little family on an adventurous road trip in a 4x4 camper. Due to bad weather we have some bad luck on the way, but in Africa help is always nearby. The heavy rainfall makes the challenge to cross Botswana a bit tougher, but we manage to find all the African animals in the National Parks.

In the previous episodes you saw how we started the road trip in Cape Town South-Africa. From there we drove the Cape Namibia Route along the West Coast to look for animals in the Kalahari Desert. After that we crossed the border into Namibia, where we drove straight through the world's highest sand dunes in the Sossusvlei. We saw all the sights in Namibia and wend on a safari in Etosha National Park. After Botswana we'll continue the road trip through Zimbabwe and the Kruger National Park, to finally deliver the camper in Johannesburg South-Africa again.

Our journey through Africa is part of a one and a half year trip around the world. We can even continue to travel indefinitely. On New Year's Day we started in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, the Canary Islands. Then you saw us in Oman, Cape Verde, Martinique, Saint Lucia, Tobago, Grenada, the Bahamas, the United States, Mexico, Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, Brazil, Qatar, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Australia, the Philippines, Zanzibar & Tanzania, South-Africa and Namibia, Botswana is already destination number 24 on the big trip. We have also been away from home for over a year now. Follow us on this world tour, first in Botswana and then to many more beautiful destinations in Africa! We still travel non-stop all year and film everything, with a new episode every week. Also take a look at instagram @woutoftheworld or

BOTSWANA TRAVEL DOCUMENTARY | 4x4 Safari Road Trip feat. Victoria Falls

Follow us on our road trip safari through southern Africa's wildlife paradise Botswana. We drove through most of Botswana, including all the wildlife-rich areas like the Moremi Game Reserve, Chobe Nationalpark including the Chobe Riverfront and the Kalahari. We explored the Makgadikgadi salt pans in the center of the country, the Gcwihaba Caverns in the West and the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in the south. We also shortly ventured into Zimbabwe to marvel upon the majestic Victoria Falls. We were lucky enough to spot most of the big, and many small, animals which call Botswana home. These include elephants, giraffes, lions, hippos, kudus, oryx, ostriches, honey badgers, bat-eared foxes, serval cats, warthogs, springboks, impalas and many more.

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to describe the entire country of Botswana as a national park. Even the spaces between designated parks are wild and free, and you’ll find warthog trotting through the towns, big old bull elephant wandering across the highways and even wild dog between farms. So, with all this open space and wildlife, where is the best place to go to see it all? Our Botswana country guide will help you find the answer.

Generally speaking, Botswana has three main areas; the wet and wild regions of northern Botswana along the Chobe River and Okavango Delta, the vast Central Kalahari and Makgadikgadi Pans, and the southern Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park that spills over into South Africa. All these areas are beautiful in their own way, and provide something a little different; so let’s get into what makes each space special…

The North

Northern Botswana is the wet region of the country, crisscrossed by swamps and rivers and wetlands. The Chobe and the Zambezi rivers intersect in the north-east corner at the famous Kazungula border—the meeting point between four countries; Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Up here, the main safari areas are Chobe National Park, the infamous Okavango Delta (including the Moremi Game Reserve) and Linyanti, all of which combine excellently with Victoria Falls in either Zimbabwe or Zambia.

How do I do it?

The springboard to safaris in the north are the towns of Kasane and Maun. Kasane is perfectly situated to combine jumps between Victoria Falls and the Chobe National Park. You can spend a few days marvelling at wildlife along the winding Chobe River, with its large, super-herds of elephants, and then hop over the border to see the famous Victoria Falls in all its magic. It is also possible to take trips overland into the Savuti, or down into the Linyanti swamps. The only way into the heart of Okavango Delta is by small plane, and the springboard into the Delta is the town of Maun. From Maun, it’s a short flight into one of the many isolated camps within the wetland. If you are in the mood for driving yourself, then you can head into the Moremi Game Reserve from Maun, and skirt round the eastern fringe of the delta, camping or lodging as you wish.

Where do I start?

If you want to combine pretty much everything we’ve mentioned above then look no further than our A classic journey through Botswana. This journey will lead you through the Okavango Delta, Linyanti, Chobe and finish with the spectacular Victoria Falls. Expect magnificent game viewing and a fortitude of water-based activities in Botswana and at the falls you’ll discover a neat blend of beautiful lodges, jaw-dropping scenery and daredevil adventure activities, something for everyone!

7 Amazing Facts About Botswana [Discover Botswana 2021]

Botswana is a landlocked country found right in middle of Southern African region, bordered by South Africa on the south, Namibia on the west, Zambia on the north and Zimbabwe on the east.
There are about 2.2 million people living in Botswana with its capital city is Gaborone, also its largest city with just about one eighth of its population.
Here are the 7 Facts you probably didn't know, about this country,
Number 1
Botswana is a home of largest salt pans in the world. Makgadikgadi Pan is the world largest salt pans located in the north-east of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and south-east of the Okavango Delta. According to UNESCO website, it covers an area of over thirty thousand square kilometer, this is equal to the entire size of both Jamaica and Israel combined, and this magnificent salt pan was listed as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010.

Number 2
Botswana is the largest producer of diamond in the world
Botswana is the world’s biggest producer of diamond in terms of quality, and second biggest producer of diamond in terms of volume after Russia, with estimated twenty point nine million carats in 2016. Diamonds alone contributes to 25% of the country GDP, Before its independence, Botswana was a poorest and least developed country in Africa, to understand the state of poverty the country was in, There were only total twelve kilometers of paved roads, few hospitals built by missionaries and farming was the only way of sustenance for most locals. 1 year after gaining independence, a huge diamond mine was discovered in Orapa. Today, Botswana is one of the most prosperous and steady growing countries in Africa.
Number 3

Botswana’s Okavango Delta - Heaven on Earth

DIRECTOR’S NOTES:

Hey! Antoine Janssens here. Since I was a kid I’ve been fascinated by the wildlife around us. I watch a lot of wildlife documentaries and the beauty that they display still shocks me all the time.

The vision that I have about this sensitive topic is quite simple:
« Look at the beauty of this animal evolving in the wild. We must protect it if we want our children to see it the way we do. »

People protect what they love.

The goal of this movie is to show the beauty of the Okavango Delta and the magnificence of these species living their best life in the wild. And honestly, it's also good to see a place where humans don't have control over it.

I hope this movie will touch you deep in your heart (or just a little bit it’s quite ok ????). Let me know what you think in the comments, I’ll be there!

And finally THANK YOU VERY MUCH @Beautifuldestinations for making this possible!

Savute, Botswana. Travel guide.

Savute is famous for its prides of lion. Here survival is of the essence, as lion and hyena compete for food.
Self Drive Do it Yourself Botswana:
This, the western part of Chobe National Park is partly situated in the dead lake bed of Mababe. A few rocky hills rise above the plains.
One of these hills, Gobabis, has a number of small rock art sites along its eastern face. Savuti is characterised by the lush plains of the Savute Marsh, where large herds of zebra concentrate during the wet months.
Since the Savute Channel has dried up, artificial water holes have been set up where large herds of game, especially lone elephant bulls, concentrate during the dry months.
During these dry months the elephant cows with their calves migrate to the Linyanti and Chobe rivers.

Botswana Self Drive 4x4 Travel Guide.

Self Drive Do it Yourself Botswana.
Since Africa has opened up for Tourist, many 4 x 4 owners and nature lovers are planning to visit various destinations offered by countries north of the Limpopo. The most popular destination is Botswana, without a doubt one of Africa's last real bastions of game. A land of contrasts - from the harsh beauty of Central Kalahari to the lush woodlands of the Okavango Delta.
or

Moremi Game Reserve, Botswana. Travel guide.

About 25 km from Maun, the tar road ends at Shorobe. A good gravel road leads you up to Buffalo Fence about 15 km on.
Self Drive Do it Yourself Botswana:
Travelling further north for about 35 km, on a sandy but scenic road, where game can already be spotted, the southern entrance of Moremi Game Reserve is reached.
The Moremi Game Reserve is situated within the Okavango Delta, and offers a landscape of lagoons, winding waterways, reeded banks, Mopani and Knob thorn forests.
Cape buffalo, lion, elephant, zebra, giraffe and other animals live in the riverside forests, hippo laze in the shallow lagoons, while overhead vultures and eagles ride the thermals in search of a meal.
There are four public camping sites in Moremi, which must be booked for in advance. Entrance and camping fees are high compared to Southern African standards, which with the new booking system, ensures a low volume of visitors.
South Gate Campsite is situated at the Reserve entrance and is set amongst huge Mopani's.

Botswana Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Botswana.
Botswana is the largest natural paradise in southern Africa. Limited tourism, a combination of untouched wilderness and the comfort and luxury of a handful of safari camps, makes this Africa’s model country. Our journey begins in nearby Zimbabwe that is located close to Botswana’s northern frontier at Victoria Falls that is undoubtedly one of the most impressive natural wonders in the world. Eighty kilometres west and we have crossed the Botswana border and arrive in the first large city in the north of the country, Kasane, that is located on the Chobe River and marks the country’s frontier with Namibia. In addition to growing tourism the fishing industry is also important to Kasane’s economy. The river contains an abundance of fish and so the local fishermen are provided with a good income to support their families. Since 1915 Ma-Un has been Botswana’s main city and until the beginning of the 1990s was only accessible via dusty gravel roads, a border town on the edge of a vast wilderness. The state run Moremi National Park that extends for around a hundred thousand hectares is the largest nature reserve in the Okavango Delta. It is located on Chief’s Island, the largest island in the region. In recent years further private wildlife reserves have been established that are well worth a visit and are also strictly controlled and protected natural habitats. Amid the African wilderness we arrive at a luxurious lodge that is not only the ideal starting point for many safaris but also provides a good degree of relaxation after an exhausting day out. Suddenly two members of the San Tribe approach the lodge. These ‘Bushmen’ will accompany us on our journey into the Kalahari Desert that is also their home. Elephant herds on the Chobe River, the vast wilderness of the Kalahari and the mystique of the Okavango Delta help to make Botswana one of the last great paradises on Earth!
