Amtrak Acela Express Washington D.C. to Boston | America's Fastest Train

By popular request, I am back with another train video...this time aboard America's Fastest Train - The Acela Express. I've long wanted to try out this express train service between Washington D.C. and Boston ever since I had an interest in trains, so doing this on a relatively light travel day really hit the spot. I also wanted to try these older Acela trains before the new ones come in soon and while they are noticeably older and a bit worn, it was still a fantastic experience. The only downside to the Acela Express is the obvious slow sections of track it has to go through...and there are A LOT of them which really eats away at the express-ness of the ride. But, it is still the fastest train in the USA so it does earn that title. The Acela is also the country's 2nd most used train route, second to the cheaper Northeast Regional, so I commend Amtrak for looking to upgrade their most premium product. Hope you guys enjoy this high speed ride on the rails!

Is Amtrak’s Acela Express REALLY worth the money?

High-speed rail in America is an often discussed topic, so I decided to try out the USA's only high-speed train, and see if a ticket is really worth the high price they ask. Welcome to Amtrak's Acela!

FULL Express Ride Aboard Acela 2150 from New York to Boston 11/11/22

Taken from Car 2 (3502) of Acela Trainset #20 (#2026/#2029)
Relatively super fast 3 hr 40 min run, pretty good considering the Metro-North section is so crappy. This train only stops at Stamford before running non-stop to Providence, making it one of only 3 trains and 2 eastbounds to skip New Haven.

Trip Report: Acela First Class from Boston to New York

For the last leg of this Amtrak 50th Anniversary trip around the Northeast Corridor, we’re back in First Class on the Acela, this time on the eastern section of the corridor between Boston and New York. With First Class on the rear of the train, there are several opportunities to see the rest of the train rounding sharp curves. The Acela is pushed to its full capabilities on this stretch, reaching speeds of 150 MPH and fully utilizing the train’s tilting system east of New Haven. The scenery is also not to be underestimated as the aptly named Shore Line provides spectacular views of the Long Island Sound and the New York skyline.

???? Fastest Train In The USA Amtrak Acela In Business Class ????New York City To Boston One Way ????

Arriving at Moynihan Train Hall was a comfortable feeling. I was immediately transported into a new portal for the people. Improving Penn Station and welcoming the people of New York and the passengers arriving each day by Amtrak and LIRR, Moynihan Train Hall is a magnificent public gathering place, an epicenter connecting Penn Station to Hudson Yards, Manhattan’s Far West Side, and beyond. Moynihan Train Hall offers a market and a food hall, with an emphasis on locally sourced products and purveyors of high-quality fresh foods. The dining mix includes three signature restaurants showcasing the best cuisine in NYC. A curated retail collection of shops will complement the high-energy dining options.

Now onto the Amtrak Acela train we will be taking. Acela offers Business Class and First Class seats. While the specific features vary by train, many include extra legroom and complimentary non-alcoholic drinks. Business Class on Acela, Northeast Regional, Palmetto, and Vermonter trains also includes reserved seating. Additionally, all Business Class seats are located in a dedicated car or section of the train. And to make it even more rewarding, Amtrak Guest Rewards members earn a 25% qualifying point bonus for Business Class travel.

Acela is the fastest Amtrak service, and in some sections of the Northeast corridor can reach a maximum speed of 150 mph (240 km/h). This makes the Acela the fastest train in the Americas but still behind in comparison to Europe, Japan and China. This speed is expected to increase to 160 mph with the introduction of the new Acela II trains coming in late 2023, and there may be more speed increases as the Northeast Corridor infrastructure is improved in the coming years.

Running all the way from Washington, DC to Boston, MA, the Acela is one of Amtrak’s most important routes. As one of the fastest routes in the United States, Acela is a great way to access the east coast’s most popular destinations without a car.

For this trip I purchased the cheapest seat which was Business Class and traveled from New York City to Boston. Here's how it went.

⌚️ Travel time is approximately 3 hour and 55 minutes one way with stops at Stamford, New Haven, Providence, Route 128, Back Bay, and ending at South Station in Boston on the way traveling through 3 states.

Boston to Washington DC by ACELA | Complete Journey on the American High Speed Rail | Business Class

My first train journey in the USA, and it was on board the High Speed Train of the US, the Acela from Boston to Washington DC.

#thetrainguy #trains #america

Train : #2249 Boston South - Washington D.C Union Acela
Rake : 2031-2030

April 2023

Landing for the first time in North America, I landed at Boston Logan International. This was my first journey on an American Train.

The United States of America has only one route as High Speed Rail, which is from Boston South to Washington DC Union via New York Penn station.

The Acela is Amtrak's flagship passenger train service along the Northeast Corridor (NEC) in the Northeastern United States between Washington, D.C. and Boston via 13 intermediate stops, including Baltimore, New York City and Philadelphia. Acela trains are the fastest in the Americas, reaching 150 miles per hour (240 km/h) (qualifying as high-speed rail), but only over 49.9 miles (80.3 km) of the 457-mile (735 km) route.

Until September 2019, the service was called Acela Express.

Acela operates along routes that are used by freight and slower regional passenger traffic, and reaches the maximum allowed speed of the tracks only along some sections, with the fastest peak speed along segments between Mansfield, Massachusetts, and Richmond, Rhode Island, and New Brunswick and South Brunswick, New Jersey.

Acela trains use active tilting technology, which helps control lateral centrifugal force, allowing the train to travel at higher speeds on the sharply curved NEC without disturbing passengers. The high-speed operation occurs mostly along the 226-mile (364 km) route from Pennsylvania Station in New York City to Union Station in Washington, D.C., with a fastest scheduled time of 2 hours and 45 minutes and an average speed of 82 miles per hour (132 km/h), including time spent at intermediate stops.

In a direct comparison with the Vande Bharat Express of Indian Railways between New Delhi and Varanasi, which covers a similar distance, the Acela is only faster by 60 minutes despite having a maximum speed of 240 kmph over the 130 kmph of the Varanasi Vande Bharat.

The present equipment (the Acela Express trainset) will be replaced by new Avelia Liberty trainsets, beginning in late 2023. The new trains will have greater passenger capacity and an enhanced active tilt system that will allow higher speed on the many curved sections of the route.

The first-generation Acela Express trainset is a unique set of vehicles used on the Acela, Amtrak's flagship high-speed service along the Northeast Corridor (NEC) in the Northeastern United States. When they debuted in 2000, the sets were the fastest in the Americas; reaching 150 mph (240 km/h) on 33.9 mi (54.6 km) of the route. They were built between 1998 and 2001 by a consortium of Alstom and Bombardier. Each set has two power cars derived from units that Alstom built for the TGV, and six passenger cars derived from the LRC that Bombardier built for Via Rail.

Amtrak Acela Express Train Trip from Boston, MA South Station to New York City, NY Penn Station

This is my first train trip video. I took the Amtrak Acela Express from Boston, MA South Station to New York City, NY Penn Station. This is a very amazing and fast train. It is as fast as a European Train. Sorry if some parts of the video are blurry. This camera has awful focus in the dark.

#AmtrakHowTo Experience Acela

With superior comfort, high-speed downtown-to-downtown service and amenities that outpace airlines and driving, Acela is a rail experience unlike any other!

Travel between Boston and Washington, DC, visiting the Northeast's top destinations like New York City, Philadelphia and Baltimore. Onboard, enjoy free Wi-Fi, spacious seats, open legroom, power outlets and more, including the option to upgrade to First Class. Plus, everyone can stop by the Café Car for snacks or drinks and the Quiet Car to work or relax in silence.

Acela has it all, and we're ready to welcome you onboard:

Amtrak Acela Express Trip from New York City, NY Penn Station to Boston, MA South Station

I took the Acela Express back to Boston, MA South Station from New York City, NY Penn Station. It was dark 90% of the time, so I barely filmed. We made a brief stop after we got out of the tunnel in New York City. I am not sure why we made a stop. However, after the brief stop, the driver sped up and you can see a beautiful view of New York City as we leave headed back to Boston.

FULL Ride from New York to Washington Aboard Amtrak Acela Express 2107 8/4/23

Taken aboard Car 3 (3501) of Acela Trainset #18 (2025/2023).
The Acela is still a really fast train between NY and DC. A little late due to various slow zones along the route so workers can upgrade interlockings in time for Avelia Liberty to enter service. Because of this, the engineer was laying on the horn the whole way. Nevertheless, 226 miles in under 3 hours is still a really fast run.
