MATIRA BEACH BORA BORA ISLAND FRENCH POLYNESIA (Top 5)

Matira Beach in Bora Bora, French Polynesia is the only public beach in Bora Bora. It is the most beautiful place during the day and for the sunsets in the evening. I would highly recommend visiting this spot. Also, it is great because there are not that many people there so it feels much more like a secluded beach.

Check out the video and see our top 5 reasons why we love this place so much!!

Bora Bora Island | Matira Beach 2016

We spent a few hours of a rainey day in April 2016 exploring Viatape, Bora Bora. Detered from our original plans to get a day pass at the Hilton Bora Bora Nui we made the most of it. I've always wanted to visit this island, our Tahitian Treasures cruise onboard the Celebrity Solstice made it happen. Even in the pouring rain, Bora Bora is beautiful!

Matira Beach, Bora Bora

June 31, 2021
Vlog 36
It was our forth day in Bora Bora, French Polynesia. Michelle and I rented a car so we could drive around the whole island. Bora Bora has one road that goes around the whole island by the coast. Our first stop was at Matira beach. Matira beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The turquoise water and the white sand mix spectacularly. Under water was gorgeous too although the coral closest to the shore had seen better days. We didn't bring or snorkeling gear because we thought we would be driving most of the time. upon arriving at the beach we couldn't help our selfs but to take a dip. The water in French Polynesia is 80 degrees year round. After our quick swim we dried off and went to Bloody Marys Restaurant. I saw that they had a jimmy Buffett burger and had to try it. Michelle clearly knew what she was doing and ordered a locally caught lobster. Oh boy was I disappointed to see the burger was just a regular cheese burger, it was still really good. Michelle had no complaints about the sea food! After we finished lunch we headed back to Vaitape to go to the market. I found a cheep pair of goggles and a mask, so we headed back to Matira Beach to see what we were missing underwater. we swam for a while/ walked on the sand. After we were done swimming we gave our mask and goggles to some locals who had a kid with them. (I think the mask was kids size because it really didn't fit us well.) We headed back to Vaitape where we ran into some friends we made a couple nights before and quickly returned the rental car. When we got back to the resort (Le Bora Bora) I still wanted to go free Diving so Michelle and I hopped off the back of our bungalow. I swam in the shipping lane so I could go down 20-30 feet. After our snorkel time we went to the pool/ swim up bar for happy hour. When happy hour concluded we headed back to the bungalow and changed into some nice clothes. We went to one of the restaurants near the pool and had an amazing hot stone dinner. We were so tired after a long day we went to bed shortly after dinner. In French Polynesia people wake up with the sun and go to sleep when the sun sets. Most stores close at 5pm and if it rains they close around 2pm...

Thank you for reading/ watching,

-Jared

Touring the East Coast of Bora Bora, French Polynesia, to Matira Beach at the Southern Tip

During our Oceania Marina “Le Truck Island Tour” shore excursion, our circumnavigation continues to the east coast. We pass the Le Meridien and Intercontinental resorts on the motus across the lagoon. Our guide is talking constantly, pointing out things tourists don’t care about such as a new grocery store and the behavior of local dogs.

We leave the district of Anau and go by an abandoned resort on the mainland. It used to be a Club Med but was damaged in a 2011 cyclone and hasn’t been rebuilt. Next we see the Sofitel resort, which is split part on the mainland and part on a motu. Some new overwater bungalows are under construction.

Going through the town of Matira, we cruise by the Maitai Polynesia Bora Bora Resort, then come up to Matira Beach, our fourth stop. Matira Beach is mainland Bora Bora’s only real beach. It occupies both sides of Matira Point, the southernmost tip of the island. It’s the nicest beach we’ve seen so far during our nine days in French Polynesia. The beach is pretty but small.
