2 Weeks in Paradise: Tahiti, Bora Bora and Moorea in 4K
We had an amazing 2 weeks during our vacation / honeymoon in French Polynesia: we went to Tahiti, Bora Bora, and Moorea. This paradise had some of the best snorkeling we've ever experienced; this might be one of the best places in the world to snorkel. We saw so many varieties of fish, sharks, sting rays, octopuses, manta rays, moray eels, corals, and more. On land, the beaches and scenery were breathtaking. The islands were filled with beautiful sandy beaches everywhere. The jungle was also so lush, and did not have dangerous animals. And the over water bungalows at the hotels were amazing!

Bora Bora is a small volcanic island in the South Pacific northwest of Tahiti and is part of French Polynesia. The island consists of motus (islets) fringed by sandy beaches. Protected by a coral reef, the atoll's turquoise lagoon is a popular diving spot. The island is also known as a luxury holiday resort. Some hotel bungalows stand on stilts directly above the sea. In the center of the island is Mont Otemanu, a 727 m high dormant volcano.
Almost too good to be true: Holiday dreams come true in the South Seas paradise of Bora Bora. Green-blue water, shimmering in all shades of azure, turquoise and sapphire, wonderful beaches with powder-sugar-fine sand and palm trees rustling in the wind, an almost untouched hinterland, fantastic underwater worlds and top-class hotels make Bora Bora a dream destination for discerning holidaymakers and honeymooners who want to spend an unforgettable holiday here will spend their honeymoon.
Bora Bora is one of the Society Islands and is located about 260 kilometers northwest of Tahiti in the South Pacific. As part of French Polynesia, Bora Bora is an overseas French territory. The archipelago is roughly equidistant from the Australian continent and the southwest coast of the United States. The atoll has an airport that is served by Tahiti; the islands are also served by cruise ships. Bora Bora can be experienced particularly pleasantly while island hopping, for example in combination with Moorea and Tahiti.
The Bora Bora Atoll was once a volcano: The caldera has now sunk and only a few remnants of the crater rim rise from the sea. This includes the 9-kilometer-long main island with Mont Otemanu (727 meters), the highest point in Bora Bora. In the deep lagoon there are several offshore islands (called Motu), some of which are also remains of the former volcano and some are formed by coral.
Bora Bora was settled around the second century BC and is part of the Polynesian culture. The archipelago was ruled by warlike tribes up until the 19th century, as evidenced by numerous rock paintings and several ceremonial platforms. It was discovered by Europeans in the 18th century; the famous navigator James Cook may have been the first to sight Bora Bora. In 1880 the reign of the last king of Tahiti ended and the entire Society Islands archipelago was annexed by France.
Bora Bora has a tropical climate with lots of sun and consistently high air and water temperatures. During our winter (November to February/March) the temperatures are a bit higher and there is a lot of precipitation. The best travel times are the drier and slightly cooler months from May to September; However, the island is then also much more visited. Ultimately, Bora Bora is worth a trip at any time of the year - in the bathtub-warm water of the picture-perfect lagoon, swimming is fun even when it rains!
There is hardly any other place on earth where you can enjoy a break from everyday life better than on Bora Bora. The overwhelming beauty of the landscape, the eternal summer and the exclusive resorts fascinate honeymooners, bathers and nature lovers alike.
Bora Bora is an Eldorado for water sports enthusiasts, especially divers and snorkelers. The deep lagoon and the excellently preserved fringing reef form a fascinating, still intact underwater world in which you can experience the biodiversity and magic of the South Pacific up close. In the crystal-clear, light-flooded water you will encounter colorful schools of fish close to the beach, while sharks, barracudas and rays can be found in the deeper water. Manta and leopard rays are particularly numerous in the so-called Ray Street in the lagoon.
