Boat Life! Being FRUSTRATED in Beautiful places! [EP 98]

The frustrations of sailing the strait of Gibraltar | Ep98

After four years, two lockdowns and 14 countries we have completed a pretty good lap of the Med and are now making our way West out of the Strait of Gibraltar and into the Atlantic ocean.

The Western passage through the strait is always a much more tricky prospect than going East because the bulk of the current flow through the strait is due to evaporation in the Med not the tide. This means the current doesn't flow into the med for long and you will have to deal with fighting an East bound current at some point. If you've planned it well and have a good Easterly breeze you will get some useful sailing breeze for sure as it's a windy place, but that wind will be against tide so you'll also have steep waves.
All that being said it's a great place to sail!

Do have a look at the links below with have the entrants for this years 'Young Cruisers Awards' which will be given out at the Annapolis boat show next month. If we get enough votes then we will get to go the to awards party and we can give you all the gossip!...

EP.98 - Le TEMPS ⏰ nous échappe entre les VOILES !...????

(Français dessous ????????????) We discover more and more Mayotte by traveling with our beautiful sailboat Sagar Rani its magnificent lagoon which never ceases to amaze us ... Not to mention these landscapes worthy of postcards, with the white, brown and black sand beaches, its coconut palms, its Mount Choungui, a mountain that looks like a pointy witch's hat. Unfortunately, we don't have enough time to explore everything, there is so much to see on this small island! Jo falls ill, a good little flu causing her fever and body aches. Fortunately, it only lasts a few days and he is back on his feet. We are enjoying the last few days in Mayotte with more barbecues on the beach, kitesurfing, a little session with the Mini-Dive underwater and a small supply… It is not often that we have access to so many good French products that will delight the taste buds!

We keep the next destination a mystery… You will find out in the next episode, but believe us, it will be totally exotic!

Salty kisses from the whole crew,

Claire, Jo and Sticky

p.s By dint of lighting fires on the beach, Jo begins to take himself for a cave man… and on the beach, for fun, he makes his cave man after hearing a rooster crowing on this small island!

BOAT LIFE = BOAT WORK | Back To Normal Life Onboard Ruby Rose | Ep 116

Boat life really is all about boat work and boat maintenance in exotic (and sometimes not-so-exotic) locations. Living on a boat requires hours and hours of boat jobs and that list never gets fully completed. However, it's all part of the liveaboard experience and this time we're even more motivated because we're itching to get out and go SAILING!
Cheers,
Nick & Terysa

We may not be able to get back to our own boat, but it doesn’t mean we can’t commandeer someone else’s!  Ok, so maybe we aren’t the commandeering type, but we never pass up a good invitation. Which is how we’ve found ourselves back at sea!

It’s been months, upon months and there’s just no denying that being out on the water is where our souls ache to be.  The sense of freedom, peace and endless horizons is unbeatable.

WHO ARE WE?
We’re Jason and Nikki Wynn. We been living #OffTheGrid and exploring the world for almost a decade.
Our first six years of #travel were an epic road trip around North America.
Now we’re on a sailing voyage about the world. Did we have any previous sailing experience, of course not!
Neither of us is overly talented, smart, rich, lucky, or retired. But that doesn’t stop us from reaching far-flung destinations, having wild adventures, and managing everything that makes living aboard a moving vessel possible.
We’re two ordinary people that just so happen to live an extraordinary life.
Because... Life is an adventure!
Extraordinary moments out there for anyone willing, and wanting, to go after it. Ya know life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
And this is why we publish our lives on the world wide web. We share in hopes of inspiring you to find your adventure.

An exciting, yet frustrating week as we continue to explore the amazing sights of Bocas Del Toro region.

We grab our swimmers, surfboards and rent a couple bikes to explore a place called Bluff beach.

Our fun is short lived as everything starts breaking, leaving us stranded in the middle of nowhere.

We then pick up the hook and sail Zephyr over to Red Frog, Bastimentos with the hopes of checking out Red Frog Beach.

However, we get a shock surprise and our day doesn’t quite work out as we expected.

Hope you enjoy the video as we continue sailing in the Bocas Del Toro region.

WE Could Have Sunk the Boat - Goiot Escape Hatch Failures | Episode 101

On this episode we replace an escape hatch that could have sunk our boat! It comes from an issue with the escape hatches that have been know to detach from the sailboat hull, usually causing the boat to sink and we fixed it just in time!

We have know about this issue for a while now, and its something that has worried us considerably but also one that we have been quite unable to address until now. It requires us to be in one place long enough for the company to send the replacement hatches to, as well as that place big enough that the company in Europe can send them to. THEN, once we receive them, we have to EITHER haul the boat out of the water - what we wanted to do originally, but costs us nearly $1000- OR find a safe spot that is calm enough to complete the work safely from underneath the yacht.

It finally all came together in Mexico, we stopped sailing long enough to receive the hatches, and tied up to a nice marina in La Paz. Here the water was calm and conditions were good to complete this arduous task... but not all the stars lined up perfectly and it took us far more work than it should have to get this troublesome job complete. But after teaming up for a full day, busting some knuckles, calling some experts, and a little but of cursing, we finally got it removed and swapped out for the recalled replacement. FINALLY!

????ALONE on this HUGE Tropical Sandbank with our Sailing Boat!????//Ep.93

We take you this week to the Maldives of Tanzania, in the middle of abundant coconut palms, turquoise waters and pristine white sand beaches! Seriously, these are breathtaking landscapes, strategic but very pleasant navigations, treasure hunts, a beach like you have never seen it ... a tropical life as we like it so much, in good islands. uninhabited paradise, far from what one might imagine when thinking of East Africa, which still reveals its beautiful unexpected treasures all along the coast. Of course, a little more mechanics to spice things up, it would be too good otherwise! We thought we would stay there for 1 day, we stayed there for 1 week as this rest was well deserved.

The end is approaching, we will talk to you about it next week! Salty kisses,

We are a European couple from Germany (Alex) and the Netherlands (Mandy), sailing around the Med on our 36ft sailboat. 12 months ago we started our journey in Greece with little sailing experience, figuring things out as we go, thinking we know what we are getting ourselves into. Our goal is to circumnavigate the world on our 36ft Beneteau. Sailboat life is super different from land life. It is fantastic and pretty rough at times. see the little things tries to FIND HAPPINESS BY DOING THINGS THAT ARE HARD. Join us on this journey and let's find happiness together!

If you have any COMMENTS, suggestion, questions or feel to need to praise (or scold) us, leave a comment down below and we’d happily write you back :). Of course a THUMBS UP is ALWAYS APPRECIATED very much so and helps us a lot!

Finding an ABANDONED MANSION in the middle of nowhere | Corona Chronicles | Part 5

Watch part 1 of the CORONA CHRONICLES HERE!

We continue to explore the Las Perlas islands during lockdown in Panama. The Coronavirus changed the whole world, so it was nice living off grid in such a remote location. We have permission to sail around the islands and are stoked to find an abandoned mansion, where we chill for the afternoon, have a few beers, and reflect on how grateful we are to be able to live the life we do.

SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged 2012 Lagoon 450 Catamaran bought in Tortola, BVI at the beginning of 2018. Colin and his friends spent 4 months getting her seaworthy, before setting sail across the Caribbean. Follow our journey as we continue to fix her and eventually circumnavigate the globe!
