1. WARUNG LESEHAN MERTHA SARI: Grilled Pepes + Sate Lilit Tuna + Sate Tusuk Tuna
ADDRESS: Jl. Kresna No.1, Pesinggahan, Dawan, Kabupaten Klungkung, Bali 80761
OPENING HOURS: MON - SUN 8:00AM - 6:00PM
GRILLED PEPES: In a bowl, mix chopped tuna, minced tuna, tamarind, ginger, bumbu genep (spice mix). Take a spoonful and place in the middle of banana leaves. Wrap and secure with a thin piece of bamboo stick. Place on the grill and cook.
SATE LILIT TUNA (TUNA SATAY) + SATE TUSUK TUNA: Wash the fish and grind thoroughly. Blend the smooth spices and stir-fry. Add additional spices. Mix seasoning with ground fish. Put mixture on skewer and grill. Serve with rice, tuna soup and sambal matah.

2. SAMSARA BALI – LIVING MUSEUM: Dragonfly Pepes + Landak
ADDRESS: Banjar Dinas, Jungutan, Bebandem, Kabupaten Karangasem, Bali 80861, Indonesia
SOCIAL: @samsara_bali
DRAGONFLY PEPES: Filling: Mix together chillies, shallots, garlic, turmeric, salt and telengis (residue of coconut oil). Add dragonflies and mix. For a sweeter filling, add honeycomb to the mixture. Pepes Wrapping: Cut the banana leaves. Take a handful of mixture and put in the leaf. Seal it shut with a bamboo stick. Put the pepes on open wood fire and let cook for about 30 minutes.
LANDAK (Porcupine): Pour hot water over porcupine. Remove all quills, then place back in water and clean. Skin, debone and remove the organs. Sate: Mix porcupine meat with bumbu and make sate. Lawar: Grill heart and lungs and chop up the skin. Raw Lawar: In a big bowl, Mix shaved coconut and raw porcupine blood. Then add in boiled porcupine skin, grilled heart and liver. Add fried bumbu on top and mix everything together. Add in lime. Pour in porcupine stock (broth) and fried onions. Boiled Porcupine: Mix raw porcupine meat with bumbu then pour into pot cooking vessel to cook to boil.

What started out as an information and fun tour quickly turned into one of the biggest tourist traps I've ever experienced. Taking a tour in Bali could be a great way to see the island, but make sure you avoid it at all costs. Bali's golden days are in the past, once called the most beautiful place in the world, it has become a destination to avoid. Find out what happened to the island and what better to do instead.
Indonesia has, apart from Bali, 18.000 other islands to visit, the country has hundreds of different ethnics and languages in it's territory. The other islands have long been overlooked, but there are such great things to discover. Slowly Flores, Lombok, Borneo, Java and Sumatra are attracting more and more travelers. Hopefully this will give Bali some time to breathe in the future. Overtourism will be a big issue for many popular places in the near future.

I have a real treat of a meal and video for you today - this I can say is one of the best meals and experiences I’ve had in a very long time - combining both the amazing culture of Bali, Indonesia, and the incredible Balinese food in one.
Puri Banyuning, Bongkasa, Bali - Andre is part of a Balinese Royal family, and he invited us over to their family palace grounds. I was immediately blown away by the palace grounds, the beauty of the architecture and the lush greenery of Bali.
After walking around for a while, and getting dressed in a local Balinese sarong, it was time to get started. The chef at the Palace is an insane cook, and cooks so fast and so expertly, it’s amazing to watch him.
We started cooking an Indonesian food Balinese feast including some of the best Balinese dishes like sate lilit, tum ayam Balin, lawar, ares soup, and be lindung. Also part of the Royal Balinese food experience was how the food was displayed and decorated - it was nothing short of incredible to see and to eat!

On a road trip from Nusa Dua to Ubud, I stopped by a local restaurant to eat Babi Guling. I needed a drink to wash down my delicious pork meal and saw these bottles on the table. It looked interesting so thought I'd give it a try.

Things I wish I knew before visiting Bali ????️????
???? Level of Attractiveness
You think beautiful foreigners are in Bali? Then you haven’t seen the Balinese people! I think the general level of attractiveness here is way above average.
???? Bad, Worse, Bali Traffic
The traffic in certain areas is terribly bad and comparable to the traffic in Vietnamese big cities (those who know, know). Choose when to travel through busy areas.
???? Strange Tourist Crowds
Every place attracts different kinds of people, that’s for sure. But never before have I seen so many people across the board who were obviously there just to take photos. The proportion of, let’s call them “fashionistas”, is just insanely high.
???? Food Prices
It’s no secret that local food is very low-priced in Asian countries. But what we noticed in Bali: Western food is also very affordable. Example: A smoothie bowl in a fancy international cafe in Bali costs about 5 euros, while in Thai hotspots, it costs at least twice, if not more.
???? The ominous Bali Belly
The Bali belly is not only real, it is inevitable. People previously warned against unpeeled fruits, meat, fish, and street food. But even we, who have lived in Asia for a long time and are vegetarians, got the Bali Belly. My tip: Go to the doctor quickly and get a prescription. With the right medicine, it will be gone in no time.
???? Local Childcare
In terms of childcare, Bali has been the best place for us as a family so far. Not only have we had the warmest, well-trained, and most energetic nannies, but the local schools have also been incredibly good and affordable.
