To get to the festival it is a two day trek it is a several hour drive from Thimpu where our buses parked near Gasa to start a two day trek to Laya through. The treks takes you through the beautiful valleys of the Himalayas.

Bhutan King Wedding video I A small girl hugging the King & Queen and not letting go

The Royal Wedding in the Kingdom of Bhutan.

The wedding of Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, King of Bhutan, and Jetsun Pema took place on 13 October 2011 at the Punakha Dzong in Punakha, Bhutan.

The current King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, married Jetsun Pema, who became Queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck at the age of 21 years.

Royal wedding attire

The wedding featured traditional Bhutanese attire. The bride, Jetsun Pema, had ordered several elaborate kiras, the national dress for Bhutanese women, from among prominent weavers in the country. Queen Jetsun Pema chose one of these kiras, which are woven from raw silk and can take months to complete, as her wedding kira.

She wore a light yellow tego and a kira colored red, yellow, green and white, along with red earrings to match her red wonju, the colour are also symbolic of astrology.

The King wore a rose patterned yellow silk gho, the very same gho his father and grandfather had worn at their weddings.

Royal wedding guests

The guests were predominantly members of Bhutan's royal family, the House of Wangchuck, government officials, friends of the royal family, and the press. There were no foreign royals or heads of state in attendance, however Indian dignitaries and ordinary Westerners were among the guests of the royal family.

During the ceremony, family guests sat on one side of the hall, while tulkus and other high level officials sat on the opposite side. To prevent chaos, the dzong and its entrances were closed to the public.

Confirmed guests included:

One way to start the journey towards inner healing is to prioritize self-care. This can mean different things to different people, but it’s about finding activities that nourish your mind, body, and soul. It could be anything from meditation and yoga to getting a massage or spending time in nature. Take a trip to Bhutan and enjoy a peaceful stay at Nirvana. Visit Tigers nest which is about 15 minutes drive away. The Tiger's Nest is one of the most spiritual and religious monasteries in Bhutan.

The Movie: Happiness | King Jigme Wangchuck | Jetsun Pema

Gross National Happiness, or GNH, is a holistic and sustainable approach to development, which balances material and non-material values with the conviction that humans want to search for happiness.

In 2011, The UN General Assembly passed Resolution Happiness: towards a holistic approach to development urging member nations to follow the example of Bhutan and measure happiness and well-being and calling happiness a fundamental human goal.

We attended THE KING'S 40TH BIRTHDAY in Bhutan!

THE KING'S 40TH BIRTHDAY. When we planned our trip to Bhutan, we didn't realize that it was going to be King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck's 40th birthday. The best part of it all was that on the day of the celebration we were going to be in Thimpu, the capital.
The King celebrates privately with his family, so we didn't get a chance to see him, however, we witnessed how Bhutanese come together to wish a happy birthday to their King!

In this video will see the morning event in the stadium. Thousands of people singing Happy Birthday, yellow and orange balloons flying up in the sky, and all the school performing a dance. Enjoy!
