Public transport guide in Amsterdam
In this video, I run through the different types of public transport in Amsterdam and how to use them. I cover the tram, metro, ferry and bus (run by GVB) as well as the train (run by NS). In terms of tickets I talk about the GVB ticket, iamsterdam city card, OV card as well as prices and where to buy them. I also talk about OVpay which has very recently been introduced and is available on the GVB network. Finally I share a tip if you get lost on the bus or tram. Whether you are visiting or you’re moving to Amsterdam; I give you the low down on how to use the public transport here. NB I also reference Amsterdam Centraal Station quite a few times. It is a major transportation hub and is a great starting point for buying all ticket types, as well accessing all forms of public transport. Thank you for watching.

I recently went back to Amsterdam to visit friends & family and decided to share my new hidden gems and personal favorites for Amsterdam in 24 hours like the Skylounge, Hannekes Boom, Roest & the Scheepsvaartmuseum. This video includes the best things to do and attractions to visit in Amsterdam, do not miss out on these spots especially during a layover at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. After publishing my now famous Amsterdam Travel Guide video on YouTube I concluded that I forgot to mention a few other amazing spots in the capital of the Netherlands.
Amsterdam is an incredible city to visit if you know where to go. Sadly, I often hear stories from friends and tourists that expected more of Amsterdam thus I took it upon myself to continue publishing engaging content to prevent people from visiting the wrong places during their stay.
A sunny day can truly make a massive difference while in Amsterdam! When the sun rays hit your face, you should immediately go to either Amsterdam Roest, a converted industrial beach club on the east end of the city or Hannekes Boom, a shack-style waterfront cafe where you will meet many cool locals and make new friends who can advise you on special events for the evening.
It is widely known that it rains an awful lot in Amsterdam so if you find yourself unlucky there are tons of other great indoor things to do, my recommendations; go to a coffee shop and smoke up, then proceed to the many incredible museums like the Rijksmuseum which took 370 million euros to restore and contains the best art & history collection in the Netherlands after drop by either the Royal Palace or the Scheepsvaartmuseum at which you can see how Dutch sailors used to live in colonial times.
The Scheepsvaartmuseum, or national maritime museum, is my favorite museum in the city. I love sail boats and galleons from the Dutch Golden Age. The museum includes an entire replica of a Dutch VOC vessel on which you can take great selfies. Also, for the Netflix fans, checkout the Dutch movie: The Admiral.
Amsterdam Roest beach has probably the best patio in the city and you can watch live music every evening and mingle with the locals, check their monthly schedule here.
My buddy George and I ended our Amsterdam adventure at Wynand Fockink, which I covered in my official Amsterdam Travel Guide, where we met many new people and made new friends. Amsterdam is a great place to make social connections for life!
Later I took the train to visit my sister in The Hague (Den Haag), the political capital of the Netherlands. It was a sunny day for a patio and a couple of beers while we observed the political hacks enjoy laughs with their rich buddies.

Made famous by its liberal attitudes, bikes, museums, art and history, Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands and here are ten tips in one minute for your city break.
When crossing the road, take care. You’ll have to cross the bike lane, both lanes of traffic, then the bike lane on the other side. And that’s before even thinking about trams. We recommend using pedestrian crossings.
When riding a bike, remember to obey the rules. Bike lanes have their own traffic lights and work just like the ones for cars. Stop at red lights and make sure you’re ready for the greens, the locals will not wait for you.
Speaking of bikes, don’t walk in the bike lanes. It’s dangerous for you and the cyclists.
Get an iamsterdam card. It gets you free public transport and discounts on tickets to lots of popular places.
Cafes sell coffee; coffee shops sell…other stimulants…
Most people speak excellent English, so there’s no need to learn Dutch before you go.
Do not take photos in the Red Light District. Sex workers do not like it at all. Amsterdam reversed its plans to stop selling soft drugs to tourists so it’s perfectly legal for foreigners to use coffee shops.
Speaking of which, no under 18s are allowed and this is strictly enforced.
Book ahead. Tourists spots like Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh museum and Anne Franks’s house can have queues for up to an hour if you turn up without a ticket.
