DIVERSE Korean STREET FOOD Tour on Myeongdong Street | Seoul, South Korea

With another night in Seoul upon me, I met up with my boy Paul from Tastes Seoul Good to head out on an epic and diverse Korean street food tour on Myeongdong Street! Come along with us as we sample some of the most mouthwatering street foods the city of Seoul has to offer!

FEATURED TRAVELER:

Paul (Tastes Seoul Good):

Myeongdong Street is another entertainment district. It’s the shopping capital of Seoul and a mecca for street food. It’s centrally located, so it’s very easy to get to. It’s also very trendy and touristy, but I still couldn’t wait to eat!

My first food was a ball of soybeans and fermented honey that’s stretched and pulled into strands and topped with different toppings. Mine was topped with almonds and was insanely good! The flavor was outstanding! It costs 5,000 won/$4.20 U.S. for 8.

Next was mandu, a pan-fried dumpling with pork and veggies inside. It’s garlicky and full of spring onions. It was so good, and I loved the pork inside. I added some soy sauce, which made it even better! It was also very oily!

There were also samples of many varieties of almonds, including fire chicken flavor, wasabi. We tried a hot one, which wasn’t so hot at first, but it hit me a few seconds later. Then I had the wasabi one, which had a sweetness to it. The third one was so good and was like pop rocks mixed with almonds. It’s the best almost in the world! They were so good that I bought a bag for 6,900 won/$5.80 U.S.

From there, we found a stall selling lots of things I’d tried before, like the sundae and tteok-bokki. I wanted to find something more diverse, so we continued on past lots of shops catering to women and the K-Pop audience.

Next, we found Myeongdong Dakgalbi, which is like a Korean hamburger and has rice cakes on it. It’s smothered in lots of stringy cheese and is torched. The beef was super tender and had light spices on top. It gave it a really nice flavor. It was so bomb! Then I added some spicy sweet & sour sauce. The beef costs 6,000 won/$5.04 U.S. Without cheese, it’s 5,000/$4.20, and the pork is 4,000/$3.36. Then it was Paul’s turn to try it with some cream cheese sauce!

Next up was some gimbap. There were 9 varieties and decided on the one with roe while Paul went with the spicy bulgogi. Mine was so good! It had a tiny bit of spice and I loved the sticky rice! It was full of roe with lots of crunchy seaweed around it. It was fantastic! Paul’s contained pork and looked equally amazing! Usually, the gimbap is 6 for 5,000, but you can also get one for 1,000.

Next, I had some egg bun, which is topped with egg, almonds, peanuts, and sunflower seeds. The bun was sweet and felt custard-like. It was good but very filling! The yolk was fully cooked but my favorite part was the sunflower seeds, which added a whole new flavor!

Next was skewered chicken, which cost 4,000 won/$3.36. You have your choice of 6 sauces. I went with the teriyaki. It was crunchy and juicy and was the best chicken teriyaki ever! Then I tried the spicy sauce, which was like the tteok-bokki sauce and was really hot! The barbecue sauce really helped calm down the heat, but the vendor nearly set himself on fire! Then Paul tried the Hydrogen Bomb, which he says was super spicy!

My mouth was still on fire, so we found a juice stand to put the fire out! My juice was super refreshing and the perfect counter to the heat.

Then we headed to Craft Hans, a bar that sells Korean and international beers and food. It had a nice terrace and a garden. Paul went with a citrusy Weizen, while I went with a Hans IPA, which was hoppy and smooth.

What a night! I hope you enjoyed coming with me and Paul to Myeongdong Street! If you did, please give it a thumbs up, leave me a comment, and subscribe so you don’t miss any of my upcoming travel/food videos!

Top 10 Korean Street Foods in Seoul, South Korea | The BEST KOREAN Street Food in Seoul

???? ROSETTA STONE:

Huge thanks to Rosetta Stone for sponsoring this video! Learning key Korean words and phrases through their app helped me prepare for my epic, two-week adventure through South Korea in May of 2019.

I wouldn’t have been able to get around as well as I did without Rosetta Stone. Their lessons are immersive and bite-sized and they help you out in the real world, like if you need to order some yummy street food!

These are the top 10 Korean street foods you have to eat in Seoul, South Korea!

1. Tteok-Bokki
Dense, deep-fried rice cakes that are coated in a spicy, red gochujang sauce. You can find it everywhere in South Korea, but I suggest having a drier version at Tongin Market. It’s packed with chili flavor and is dense and super filling!

2. Korean Fried Chicken
Korean fried chicken is some of the best in the world. It’s organic and fresh, and comes in countless varieties. Try the sweet and sour dakgangjeong at Tongin Market and the standard fried chicken and sweet and spicy chicken at Oven Chicken and Beer!

3. Kimchi Mandu
These are phenomenal dumplings stuffed with spicy, fermented Korean cabbage (Kimchi). They also contain delicious pork and flavorful glass noodles. They are downright heavenly! Just give them a few minutes to cool off before you bite into them!

4. Hotteok
A Korean donut that’s fried up fresh and contains warm honey and velvety cream? Count me in! Try this amazing sweet treat at Tongin Market in Seoul. The filling is like molten lava, so resist the temptation to dive in right away. You don’t want to burn your mouth!

5. Gimbap
At Namdaemun Market, head down to the indoor, underground section to find these amazing rice and vegetable hand rolls. The carrots, radishes, and cucumbers are super crisp and pair well with the seaweed and rice. Don’t forget the soy sauce and wasabi!

6. Samgyeopsal
This amazing type of Korean barbecue consists of grilled pork belly, which is cooked right at your table. You take a few fatty, juicy strips and wrap them in a piece of lettuce with garlic and red pepper paste. It’s savory, super fresh, and bursting with flavor!

7. Kimchi-jeon
Kimchi-jeon is one of many varieties of savory Korean pancakes. Loaded with sour and spicy kimchi, with just enough batter to hold it together, this dish is nice and crunchy but never loses its freshness. It’s so good!

8. Sundubu Jjigae
Sundubu jjigae is a Korean stew that contains shrimp, squid, onions, leeks, cucumber, and silken tofu, and is so rich and flavorful. I made my own during a cooking class in Seoul and fell in love with it!

9. Potato-Crusted Hot Dog
A hot dog, coated in potatoes, and deep-fried until it’s golden brown. Head over to Namdaemun Market to try this unique hot dog on a stick. The crispy, fluffy potatoes and juicy hot dog are the perfect combination. Try it with some spicy sauce for a real kick of heat!

10. Sikhye
This is a cool, refreshing rice drink that’s similar to horchata de arroz or fresh sugarcane juice. It’s sweet and tasty and is said to also have health benefits. It also contains rice grains floating on the bottom!

Korean Street Food - NETFLIX SEOUL - I Ate Everything From the Episode! | Gwangjang Market!

Special thank you to Dan Gray, who took us on this Korean street food tour. You can follow him at and #KoreanFood #KoreanStreetFood #Netflix

STREET FOOD NETFLIX - Seoul, South Korea

I did enjoy watching the Street Food Netflix show, especially the amazing cinematography and the amazing stories of the people behind the food. However, there wasn’t much emphasis, if any, on the eating part of the street food. So I happen to be in Seoul for a few days, and I happen to know Dan Gray ( who helped arrange the Seoul Street Food Netflix episode, and so he took us on the same tour, except this time, focused on eating everything.

Here are the places covered in the Street Food Netflix, Korean street food in Seoul episode:

Gwangjang Market - Most of the entire episode was filmed at the famous Gwangjang Market, a market I’ve been to many times, and is a must visit for Korean food lovers in Seoul.

Yoonsun Cho - Gohyang Kalguksu Stall - Most of the Netflix Seoul episode was based around Yoonsun Cho and her incredible kalguksu, hand made knife cut noodles. They were very home-style tasting, very comforting and delicious. She also serves a number of other dishes including nangmyeon, and seaweed noodles, all of which were very good. Her sauce is also amazing, and her kimchi. Price - 5,000 KRW ($4.21) per bowl

Honglim Banchan Stall - Probably the most delicious food on this entire Korean street food tour Netflix episode was the soy marinated crab from Honglim Banchan Stall. The crab was melt in your mouth and the marinade was perfect. Even better is when she scooped out some roe and mixed it with rice in the shell.

Bindae-tteok stall - There’s an entire section of Korean street food dedicated to bindae-tteok at Gwangjang Market. Along with these crispy mung bean pancakes, we also ordered Yukhoe, Korean raw beef with egg and pear. Price - 30,000 KRW ($25.27) total

Dongdaemun Food Street - Finally, the last thing in the Street Food Netflix episode of Seoul was the Baffle, a unique creation of rice made into a waffle, filled and topped with all sorts of interesting things. Price - 4,000 KRW ($3.37)

It was a fun Korean street food tour, and we all had a great time eating and meeting the friendly vendors from the show.

KOREAN STREET FOOD in Myeongdong ???????? Seoul Night Market Street Food Tour

KOREAN STREET FOOD at Myeongdong Night Market in Seoul, South Korea. A trendy Korean food tour ft. egg bread, cheesy corn dog, frozen smores and more! Become a CupofTJ member:

Today we visit Myeongdong Night Market at the Myeongdong Shopping Street in Seoul to try new, trendy and instagram-worthy Korean street food, unlike the traditional Korean street food we ate at Gwangjang and Namdaemun Market.

You can find street food cards, shopping malls, and many of the most popular Korean brands in this district! Because it's one of the primary shopping districts in Seoul, there are a lot of trendy new Korean street food to appeal to visitors. LOTS of pricey seafood street foods. I found a lot of the same kinds of food walking around. There are still stalls selling traditional street eats like kimbap and tteokbokki. I think it's a good area to visit but I still recommend the other markets if you want to eat :)!
