How Safe Is Belize for Travel?
Full safety review:
The only country in Central America without a coastline on the Pacific Ocean, Belize, is also the only country in this region where the official language is English.
And though it doesn’t have a coastline along the Pacific, it does offer a beautiful coastline along the Caribbean Sea to its east.
Belize is squeezed between Guatemala to the west and south and Mexico to the north.
The beaches this country has on the Caribbean Sea will offer all lovers of summer activities an unforgettable time, with many beach adventures such as deep-sea fishing, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving as well as exploring its attractive reefs.
Overall, Belize is not the safest destination for tourists visiting Central America, as it’s filled with petty and violent crime, and most of it is centered in Belize City. You should take precautions on the streets of major cities and after dark.

The Most Dangerous Hood in Belize
Belize has one of the highest murder rates in the world, 37.79 per 100 000 inhabitants. It makes it fifth dangerous country in the world in 2022. Most of the problems are caused by the gangs which live in the infamous southern parts of Belize City. I wanted to see the situation with my own eyes and visited this sketchy neighborhood.

Top 10 things to do in CAYE CAULKER BELIZE without spending a FORTUNE; Budget travel Belize Islands
This guide shows unique and fun things to do when you visit Caye Caulker, Belize on vacation! Try snorkeling, feeding stingrays and tarpon, viewing wildlife like sharks and seahorses, maybe a swim and hunting for starfish, then a yoga class or a massage to relax before sunset. And don't forget to try the fresh seafood too! There are a ton of snorkeling and scuba tours available but there are many more sites to see while on the island and most of these activities are FREE! If you want to do them all in one day, rent a bike and ride from place to place - the island is only 2 miles long and most of the city is within a half mile radius. ENJOY!!!
I've lived on the island for a month and learned a lot from locals. Here are a few tips and things to know about Caye Caulker:
1) USD are accepted everywhere. The current exchange rate is $2 BZD for every $1 USD. Change may be given in BZD or USD. Credit cards are accepted at a lot of places but ask before buying to make sure and also see if there is a transaction fee added to it - there usually is.
2) There are two main ways to get to the island - ferry or plane. By the time you calculate the cost of the ferry ticket and the taxi to get from the airport to the ferry terminal, the cost difference is negligible and you will save a ton of time by taking the 10 minute flight. Plus it's such an experience to be able to sit next to the pilot!!!
3) Caye Caulker is much slower and laid back compared to Ambergris Caye. There are far fewer tourists as well.
4) There are no cars on the island - walk, ride a bike or rent a golf cart!
5) All of the tour companies are great and they also collaborate to set a uniform price for tours. Your only way to get a deal is to negotiate directly with the company. I told them that I didn't go through TripAdvisor/Viator to book the tour to save them money by cutting out the middleman and received a $10 discount. Most of these tours are worth it for the boat ride and gear for snorkeling in the ocean. But the tarpon feeding, stingray and shark feedings, seahorse sanctuary are all free - so the fact that they usually stop there doesn't really add value to your trip.
6) I have received no compensation from any of the companies mentioned in this video. These are my honest opinions after being here for awhile and learning the ropes!
7) Tipping in Belize is always appreciated. To put it in perspective, the minimum wage is $1.75 USD.
8) Caye Caulker is a very safe place to visit. People are very friendly and everyone will say hello to you on the streets! English is spoken everywhere and some people also speak real, Spanish and Mayan.

Coral and marine life is rich and diverse since it is home to the second-longest barrier reef in the world (after the one in Australia). Off the coast, there is a gigantic circular sinkhole known as The Great Blue Hole that is 354 feet (108 meters) deep and 984 feet (300 meters) broad. Although it's intended for seasoned divers, beginners can reserve a helicopter trip for an incredible aerial view.

With another day in beautiful San Pedro, Belize ahead of me, I headed out to gorgeous Caye Caulker to get a taste of the country’s amazing seafood!
???????? Grenada Travel Series:
CAYE BREEZE CAFE: On the beach, we saw a man named Sherman grilling pork and chicken outside of Caye Breeze Cafe. We also met some vendors selling jewelry made from conch shells!
ICE N’ BEANS: Here, I got a shot of mocha vanilla iced latte and a cold brew coffee.
LOBSTER: Near the beach, we found Chef Kareem, who grills lobsters and pork chops. He gets them from a fisherman by the water who catches them. Chef Kareem seasons them and adds garlic butter and seasoning. The lobster was tender, buttery, and succulent, and came with some coconut rice and beans and a fresh salad.
THE SPLIT: Next, we headed to The Split, a channel in the sea carved by a hurricane. You can jump from platforms into the water there, and you can also find craft vendors selling wooden sculptures and carved Mayan calendars.
PRIME SUPERMARKET: Here, we browsed the shelves and found a lot of items you’d find in the US: toilet tissue, Heinz ketchup, hot sauces, Pringles, sodas, fresh fruit, and more. We also passed a nearby no-kill animal shelter!
