Things To Do In BELGRADE, Serbia - TOP 11 (Save this list!)

Things To Do In BELGRADE Serbia. Belgrade Top 11. Belgrade is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Europe, and a city with the most turbulent history. Belgrade was the first attacked city in the First World War and the last city in Europe to experience aerial bombing in 1999. It sits at the junction of two major European rivers, Sava and Danube and with its rich history, beauty, interesting communist architecture and amazing atmosphere is one of the most interesting places on the Balkans. This was the capital of Yugoslavia and is now the capital of Serbia. Hi guys, my name is Rok and I’ve spent the last 9 years travelling around Europe as a tour guide and I can’t wait to show you Things To Do In Belgrade, Serbia.

Belgrade Serbia - Europe's Best Kept Secret

Belgrade Serbia was once the capital of Yugoslavia but now it's the party capital of Europe. Belgrade is also one of the most affordable capital cities in all of Europe! Serbia has had quite a turbulent past but now has emerged with a vibrant cafe culture, unique architecture, and a lively nightlife. Serbian food is so delicious too. Ana's dad grew up in Serbia and moved to America when he was 25. It was amazing meeting up with her family to get the authentic Serbian experience. We visited Kalemegdan, Belgrade Fortress, Ada Ciganlija, Knez Mihailova. This city is truly one of a kind

???????? Belgrade's MASSIVE EASTERN City GATE | BRUTALIST Architecture in Belgrade, SERBIA | Travel Serbia

BELGRADE, SERBIA - Welcome back to Belgrade, Serbia for another part of my 2021 Travel Serbia series to add to my previous videos filmed in Serbia in 2019 and 2020!

This time, we are checking out Belgrade's MASSIVE Eastern City Gate, another example of brutalist architecture in Belgrade. Last year we visited many bloks in New Belgrade (Novi Beograd) including Televizorka, as well as the Western City Gate (Genex Tower). The Eastern City Gate (or Rudo) consists of 3 residential tower blocks built between 1973 and 1976 at the height of brutalism popularity. Do you love brutalism or hate it?

We also have some Serbian food, simply some pita sircina or pita sa sirom (cheese pastry) instead of having burek sa sirom as always. After that, we head to the BIGZ building, an example of modernist architecture which was once home to a well-known Serbian printing and graphics company. The company itself dates back to 1831.

If you're thinking of travelling Serbia or interested in Serbian tourism, history and food (as well as off the beaten track Serbia!), stay tuned for upcoming videos covering some awesome things to do, activities and places to visit in Smederevo, Novi Sad, Subotica, Sombor and more!

SERBIAN FOOD in Belgrade, Serbia | BEST SERBIAN cevapi, kobasice and pizza like you've never seen

SERBIAN FOOD in Belgrade, Serbia | BEST SERBIAN cevapi, kobasice and pizza like you've never seen
We're in Belgrade, Serbia! Belgrade is the capital city of Serbia and it has a food culture which has been influenced by its conquerors over the past thousands of years as well as by its neighbours in the Balkan region. In this 2 part series we aim to show you some of the city's most beloved food as well as share some traditional Serbian food with you. We kick off with breakfast the Serbian way- eating burek (a flaky pie made with a special dough similar to filo and with meat or cheese) from a bakery which has been family run for over 50 years. Many locals claim this is the best burek in the city and after eating a lot of burek during our stay we would have to agree.  A special thanks to the owners who insisted on treating us to our meal of burek and yoghurt.

Next up, a Serbian classic- cevapi- minced meat fingers cooked over charcoal and served with kajmak (clotted cream) and ajvar (ayvar) from a local's favourite. We LOVED the cevapi from this restaurant- the meat was of a great quality and overall the meal was fantastic. Then onwards to a spot for kobasice (sausages) where they make all their sausages in-house. Again, the quality of the meat was amazing. And finally pizza at a Belgrade institution called Bucko. Here they serve their ham, cheese and mushroom pizza slathered with creamy salad dressing- it was by no means the best pizza we've ever eaten but the addition of the salad dressing was fantastic- a quirky, interesting snack! We hope you enjoy this Serbian food tour in Belgrade, Serbia. #serbianfood #belgrade #serbia

???????? BELGRADE, SERBIA - TRAVEL DAY 990 - Welcome to Belgrade, the capital of Serbia! This video is PART 1 of a THREE PART SERIES!

Belgrade has an IMMENSE history! It's seriously OLD, dating back to Roman and Ottoman times, has stunning food, cool things to do, brilliant nightlife and most of all, the people are brilliant!

8 months ago I did a DNA test with MyHeritage.com - despite knowing I had Polish heritage on my mother's side - there was always a question around whether I had more Southeastern European roots - the test confirmed I was 31% Balkan so having already been to Poland, I wanted to visit the Balkans to learn more about my potential heritage, and I'm glad I did!

In this video I give you a bit of an introduction to Belgrade as a foreigner, talk about my own preconceptions and the actual reality, visit the Nikola Tesla Museum (that guy was a serious GENIUS!), check out the yet to be built Metro, highlight some of the architecture and history as well as mention points around life as Digital Nomad or backpacker in Belgrade.

There are so many things to do in Belgrade - stay tuned for parts 2 and 3 where we visit some more of them!

Why I Left Belgrade to Live in Niš -- American in Serbia

Moving to or living in Serbia currently? But you're mostly focused on living in Belgrade... or Novi Sad even? Well, Niš has entered the ring. It's underrated as a desirable city in Serbia to live in. So I'm explaining in this video why I base myself here and not Belgrade when I am in Serbia. And as I'll explain, the cost of living in Serbia's Nis is much more advantageous than in Belgrade.

[4K] Walking in Belgrade | Belgrade, Serbia Virtual Walk (Belgrade VLOG)

In today's Belgrade VLOG, we go walking in Belgrade. Belgrade is the capital of Serbia and has a population of 1.8 million. The city combines a fascinating variety of architectural styles and is one of the main tourist destinations in Southeast Europe.

Belgrade lies on the borders between European and Turkish influences, which has created an enigmatic mix of cultures. It offers a wonderful joy of life and a vibrant coffee culture.

In addition, it has a compact center, which can be easily visited on foot.

Many downtown streets are pedestrianized, which increases your comfortable mobility.

What to do in Belgrade

1. Enjoy the best views from Belgrade fortress

Belgrade Fortress was once the most important fortification in the city, at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers. Now it is an urban park, with cafes, museums and an observatory, as well as an excellent place for walking. It is the medieval focus of the city.

2. Immerse yourself in a bohemian neighborhood

The bohemian neighborhood of Skadarlija is still the home of the emerging poets and writers that began in the mid-20th century. No one should miss this area when visiting Belgrade. It is a vintage street full of local craft stores, restaurants, bakeries and art galleries.

3. Paying tribute to a Serbian saint at the Temple of St. Sava

Enjoy a breath of modern architecture at the Temple of St. Sava. It is one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world, whose structure was started in the 1930s and abandoned at the beginning of World War II. The church began rebuilding again in the 1980s and is still being renovated today. The Temple of St. Sava offers free admission and receives thousands of faithful and religious visitors every year.

4. Escape the heat of summer in Ada Ciganlija

If you are visiting Belgrade in the summer, you will definitely want to cool down and take a dip in the Sava River. Over time, the island Ada Ciganlija has become an outdoor recreational park with beaches and sports facilities for visitors. Located in the center of Belgrade, it is very popular for the calm and beauty of its green surroundings.

5. Discovering the former Yugoslavia in Tito's mausoleum

Tito's Mausoleum pays tribute to the last President of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Marshal Josip Broz Tito. The mausoleum owes its name to the flowers that once surrounded the grave of the former president until the dissolution of Yugoslavia into independent states. Next to the complex is the Museum of Yugoslavia, which teaches the history of the Balkans.

Freestyle Walking takes you on city walks or a virtual walking tour of different cities around the world. This unique travel vlog allows you to take a 4K walk so you can feel like you're there yourself taking a city tour.

Belgrade, Serbia Walking 4K - Knez Mihailova Street

Join me as we walk through Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, in its most popular street Knez Mihailova often referred as Knez Mihaila.

The walk starts from Trg Republike (Republic Square) and we walk all along the Knez Mihaila street to the Kalemegdan Fortress.

Creative Commons License.

Knez Mihailova is one of the oldest and most important streets Knez Mihailova is one of the oldest and most important streets in Belgrade and is a testimony to the continuous duration of the city. There are traces of ancient civilization in the area of the street. In Roman times, one of the main access roads, the Via Cardo, stretched along a route that for the most part coincided with today's stretch of Kneza Mihaila Street. There is no evidence that this area was inhabited in the Middle Ages. In the first half of the 16th century, the old Roman one was renovated and a new water supply system was built, which ran along the route of today's street, which created the conditions for the emergence of the settlement.

Republic Square is the central city square in Belgrade, Serbia. It is located in the municipality of Stari grad and covers the area between the City Tavern, the Jadran cinema, the National Theater and the House of the Serbian Army. The old name of the square was Pozorišni trg.

Belgrade Serbia ????????: Summer walking tour

Hot sunny day in Belgrade, Serbia, temperature above 38c so I decide to walk more through beautiful Belgrade parks. From Temple of St Sava, through streets of Vracar to Nikola Tesla museum, then Tasmjadan park and town centar, Terazije and Knez Mihajlova street. Walk through Kalemegdan and few moments from Ada Ciganlija - lake on Sava river.

Two days in SERBIA - Treasures of the Balkans - Country 8 of 9

As part of the 18-day Treasures of the Balkans tour with Insight Vacations, we spent two days in Belgrade, Serbia, coming off Bosnia and before heading to our last stop - Budapest. Lots of history covered during this trip, including the Balkan wars which have left scars in the city. In this video, you will see:
1. Belgrade city centre
2. Tasmajdan Park - where a statue of a little girl stands to remember the NATO bombing in 1999
3. St. Mark's Church
4. Belgrade Fortress - where you will see artillery, a park, a tennis court and amazing views
5. Damaged building to remember the NATO bombing in 1999
6. Temple of Saint Sava
7. Oplenac - Tombs of the Kings
8. Palic, Serbia

USA ➡️ Serbia DURING COVID-19: FULL ITINERARY TO THE BEST HIPSTER CITY IN EUROPE

I FINALLY MADE IT TO BELGRADE, SERBIA! This is the first vlog from my 10-day trip in Serbia and Turkey during COVID-19 (Oct 2020). Belgrade has always been one of my most anticipated destinations. I've heard many lovely things about it from one of my favorite fashion YouTubers (Tamara Kalinic), and after reading stories about it, I became obsessed with learning more about the history of this beautiful city and its ups and downs.

For those who don't know, Serbia has always been in the midst of wars and invasions all throughout history, with the most recent one being the NATO campaigns in the 1990s. Belgrade alone has been destructed and rebuilt 44 TIMES. I typically don't take tours when I travel and instead I just freestyle my itinerary, but I went against that and took a couple while I was in Belgrade because I knew I couldn't leave without diving deep into the culture and the history that has created (in my opinion) some of the most RESILIENT people in Europe today. If you walk around the city, the buildings seem like a mash up of different eras. On one street alone, you can see one building that was built in the Neoclassical era, next to it a building from the Socialist era, and another built in the modern era. This is because of how many times the city has been rebuilt during different eras. I love and admire the edginess and the grunginess of Belgrade. There's a certain melancholic air when I walk throughout the city, but in the BEST way, because I know that Serbians have been through rock bottom and now they are proud of it. HECK if I were still here after being defeated 44 times, I WOULD BE TOO. If you don't know much about Serbia, just travel here first, then learn about it. Don't hesitate, because you will fall in love.

REGARDING COVID: Serbia and Turkey are both countries that Americans can travel to right now with no restrictions. You do not need to quarantine or bring negative test results. You may be subject to a health screening when you arrive, but when we arrived, no one asked us a single question and we were in within a couple minutes. In Serbia, about 80% of people did not wear masks when outdoors. On buses and indoor spaces such as museums, almost everyone did. My best advice is just to take your own protocols, wear your mask all the time if that's what makes you comfortable (I did this), and avoid crowded places. The positive thing is that Belgrade has such a low number of cases compared to cities in the US (like.. not even comparable), so your chances of getting COVID are pretty slim as long as you are cautious. Just be warned that no one wears masks when out on the streets!

???? Where we stayed:
1) Airbnb - (roughly $30 USD/night)
2) Hotel (on our last day) - ($80 USD/night)

???? Transportation:
We mainly toured by foot, as all the main points and destinations were within a 10-15 min walk from each other. We took the public bus several times, such as when we visited the St. Sava Temple and also when we commuted to the airport. **TIP: To get a bus pass, go to one of the many red kiosks around the city. Ask them for a bus plus. We got the 24-hour option one and it was perfect (around $2.50-$3 USD).

☀️ Weather: Mid-60s F during the day, but cold in the evening. On our last day in Belgrade, it was pretty cold, around 40 degrees F!

????Tours we took:
1) The Alternative Tour of Belgrade -

2) Free Downtown Walking Tour -

Driving in Serbia: Golubac to Belgrade on State Road 34

This video shares the highlights of my trip along highway 34 in Serbia from Golubac to Belgrade.

The highway runs along the Danube River and rewards motorists with incredible views of the Danube Valley landscape for more than 100 kilometers.

Unfortunately, it was raining and grey during my drive along the highway so I hope to return in the future for some better weather and to take full advantage of the amazing scenery.

Along the way there are a number of attractions and tourist sites where you can stop and explore. Of course there's the Golubac Fortress and this is one of the highlights of the journey.

There isn't much information in English online about what there is to see so keep an eye out when you're driving and pull over whenever you come across anything that looks interesting.

Driving in Serbia is relatively easy for the most part. It gets trickier in busy urban areas but in the rural parts of the country there's hardly anyone around and motorists tend to be more respectful.

I would definitely recommend going on a road trip in Serbia if you ever get the chance. It's a beautiful country that's still off the beaten path and full of amazing places and attractions!

Keep up with me online!
