It is actually a network of fortifications rather than a single structure, and is the product of countless labors over a period of some two thousand years. Qin Shi Huang took the remnants of truly ancient fortifications, walls, and earthworks begun in the fifth century B.C. and linked them into a unified wall circa 220 B.C. as part of a massive project to protect China against marauding barbarians from the north.

The Great Wall of China: Hiking & Camping!

The two days we spent exploring remote portions of The Great Wall were some of the most awe-inspiring, challenging and beautiful days of our 21 days in China! We started day one on the Jiankou portion of the wall and then to the Huanghuacheng that night. We hiked in the dark and set up a tent to camp on the wall, waking up the next morning to gorgeous songs of bugs and wind passing through the mist the next morning. After packing up the camp site, we hiked the Huanghuacheng section for the rest of the day. I highly recommend visiting these gorgeous pieces of the wall and experiencing history far from tourists. It's truly unforgettable.

Great Wall of China. Jiankou and Jiaoshan, 12K VR aerial 360 video

Don't forget that this is 360 video: you can change the angle of view.

The width of Great Wall is 5-8 meters; some sections of the wall suitable for several horse riders running side by side. Now you will not meet the riders, but instead of them there are crowds of tourists on the wall. That's it, the Great Wall of China is one of the most known monuments of the world.

We regularly publish new 360 videos of the most beautiful places on our planet!

360° photos and videos, stories of our shootings, articles and FAQ you can find on our website:

Nowadays you need extraordinary computer power for watching 8K 360° videos. If you have troubles with watching such videos, choose 4K or HD quality in the settings of your YouTube player. We hope that YouTube will find a solution for optimization this videoformat to make it watchable for common users.

Also here is the answer for a frequently asked question about true resolution of an 8K 360° video. Unlike standard videos, in a 360° video you can see only a part of original image (approximately 30 degrees out of 360). As result, the real resolution of the part you can see isn't bigger than 1.3K.

YouTube does not support 12K 360 video yet, so the video was down-sampled from 12K to 8K. But still you need an extraordinary computer power for watching 8K 360° videos.

Great Wall of China, Beijing - Winter is the best time to visit China!

The Great Wall of China is a World Heritage wonder and the only man-made structure that can be seen from outer space. It's a jaw-dropping sight at any time of the year but for a special treat, go in winter. You'd be surprised to find that winter is the best time to visit China and to explore the Great Wall without the crowds. The winter wonderland landscape is ethereal, especially when it snows on the Great Wall.

When visiting the Great Wall there are several places you can climb the wall. You can take a Badaling Great Wall tour or a Mutianyu Great Wall tour.

Visiting the Great Wall of China is one of the most iconic things to do when you're in Beijing. Walking the Great Wall of China is something everyone should try at least once. You don't have to walk the whole way. Well, you'd have to be pretty fit to do so!

It's a day trip to visit while staying in Beijing. My tour was organised by Bespoke Beijing. I stayed at China World Summit Wing in the Shangri-La Beijing.

Visiting the Great Wall of China with Kids

We had THE BEST day on the Great Wall of China! We visited a section of the Wall known as Huanghuacheng. We saw a grand total of 10 other tourists during our 4+ hours trekking on the Wall. We basically had the entire wall to ourselves! Our day was organized by Beijing Walking Tours right from pickup to drop-off at our accommodation in Beijing. The lunch that was provided after our trek was amazing as well!

Just a note, this video IS NOT sponsored by Beijing Walking Tours. We just had such a good day with Leo that we think others would benefit from knowing how good our experience was.

Check our our upcoming videos as we continue our year-long round-the-world trip. We spend some more time in Beijing, then head to the Chinese cities of Chengdu and Guilin.
