Romania, Village Life in Transylvania

A beautiful little documentary of village life in Gyimes, in the South Eastern Carpathians in 2018. Ancient, vernacular, small farm-houses line the stoned side roads on which horse-drawn vehicles carry logs, hay, stone and people this way and that all day long. Most people live by small-scale farming producing their own honey, cheese, bread, veg and fruit, milk and meat. Water is always from the well, pure, sparkling and cold. Cows and sheep wear bells and high above the village the mountain meadows hum with insect life while the extraordinarily rich flora remains untouched by sprays and chemicals.
Szekler people, Romania's Hungarian speaking minority live in Gyimes, which now lies within Bacau county. The history of the area and its association with Transylvania, is very complicated .... I am no historian and apologise for any errors I have made.
Enjoy the film, all taken with a little, hand-held Panasonic HC X920.

Beautiful Romania - Vistit Bistrita , Transylvania

#travelromania #transylvania #travelvlog
Bistrița is the capital city of Bistrița-Năsăud County, in northern Transylvania, Romania. It is situated on the Bistrița River. The city has a population of approximately 70,000 inhabitants and administers six villages: Ghinda , Sărata , Sigmir , Slătinița , Unirea and Viișoara.
The earliest sign of settlement in the area of Bistrița is in Neolithic remains. The Turkic Pechenegs settled the area in 12th century following attacks of the Cumans. Transylvanian Saxons settled the area in 1206 and called the region Nösnerland. A large part of settlers were fugitives, convicts and poor people looking for lands and opportunities. The destruction of Markt Nosa under the Mongols of central Europe is described in a document from 1241. Situated on several trade routes, Bistrița became a flourishing medieval trading post.

Bistrița became a free royal town in 1330. In 1353, King Louis I of Hungary granted the town the right to organize an annual 15-day fair on Saint Bartholomew day, as well as a seal containing the coat of arms of an ostrich with a horseshoe in its beak. The town developed markets throughout Moldavia, and its craftsmen travelled extensively. It was given the right to be surrounded by defensive walls in 1409. In 1465, the city's fortifications had 18 defensive towers and bastions defended by the local guilds. It was also defended by a Kirchenburg, or fortified church. In 1713 the Romanian population was expelled by the Saxon magistrates, but they returned later. The town was badly damaged by fire five times between 1836 and 1850. The church suffered from fire in 1857, when the tower's roof and the bells were destroyed. The roof was rebuilt after several years. Fires in the nineteenth century also destroyed much of the city's medieval citadel.

On June 11, 2008, the tower and roof of the church caught fire when three children who went to steal copper set it on fire while playing. The main part of the church suffered just a little damage and is not in much danger, the interior being intact. It is speculated that both bells residing in the tower (one dating from the 15th century, the other from the 17th) might have melted. source

Hi! We are Helen and Tim. We are adventure travelers who saved up some money to travel full-time in Jan 2023. We are based in Portland, Oregon, and have been together for over 10+ years and share a love for the great outdoors through hiking, camping, skiing, and more! We grew up in Dallas, Texas (Helen) & DuBois, Pennsylvania (Tim).

Our goal is to hike the world one mountain at a time. We love to inspire people to get outdoors whether the adventure is big or small. Post-hike, we enjoy the local flavors and foods, and a cold drink (beer for Tim and kombucha for Helen).

There is so much in the world to see, even if it is in our own backyards. We started filming our adventures in the PNW and that has evolved into filming our international travels.

10 Best Places to Visit in Romania - Travel Video

#romania #romaniatravel #visitromania

???? Subscribe now with all notifications on for more travelvideos, best traveldestinations, top 10 places to visit and more videos about the most beautiful places in the world.

Located in central Europe, Romania is most easily known for its famed Transylvania region.
Second to that are the wonderfully preserved medieval spots like Sighisoara and fortresses like Bran Castles – which is usually associated with Dracula legend.
The beauty of Romania still remains a bit unseen. As more and more tourists travel to its capital city of Bucharest and the surrounding areas, they are finding that the friendly people, folktales and romantic lure are all very real.
You’ll find yourself charmed by the medieval architecture as much as wowed by the wild buildings of the Communist era.
Romania is one of the most diverse countries you can explore, so whether you’re looking for architecture and sightseeing, winter sports, hiking trails or just a remote spot to relax for a few days, there’s definitely something there for everyone.

Discover the beautiful #villages of Transylvania

By far the best-known region in #Romania to travelers from all over the world, #transylvania got its name from “silva”- the Latin word for forest, so Transylvania literally means “the land beyond the forests”.

Home to 150 well-preserved fortified #churches that stand as a testament to centuries of Saxon inhabitation, Transylvania is also known for its rolling hills, dense forests, and scented meadows.

Some of the most beautiful villages in Transylvania are Biertan, Viscri, Alma Vii, Malancrav, Mesendorf, among others, which are a must-visit if you consider visiting Romania.

Beautiful Transylvania, Romania

I went to Romania in April 2013. I visited Cluj-Napoca, Sighișoara, Salina Turda and Biertan (Transylvania). Romania is a beautiful country with good food and great people.
I hope you'll like the video and you'll plan a tip there!

Brasov, Romania | A Pretty City in Transylvania

Visiting Brasov, one of Romania’s most well-known, historic, and picturesque cities. Nestled in the southern Carpathian mountains, Brasov is one of the biggest cities in the Transylvania region, and is particularly festive during the Christmas holidays.
Come join me as I explore this town!
