DHAKA, BANGLADESH - Bangladesh is home to a diversity of amazing people including the Chakma people who are from the Chittagong Hill Tracts in southeastern Bangladesh. Today we have the special opportunity to to eat at a Chakma food restaurant right within Dhaka!

Hebaang Restaurant ( - Hebaang invited us for an authentic Chakma tribal meal. They bring many of their ingredients from their village in the mountains near Chittagong. Tonight the menu was huge, so many different dishes and an incredible variety. I was pleasantly surprised by their use of shrimp paste in many dishes and their use of green chilies and plenty of fresh herbs.

Along with the many other dishes, one of the main dishes they made was a village chicken, mixed with spices and herbs and green chilies, then stuffed into a long bamboo pole and roasted over the fire.

The food was delicious and the hospitality and company was spectacular. Next trip to Bangladesh I really hope to visit some of the villages and tribes in the Chittagong Hills to learn about more of their amazing food culture.

Bangladesh is such a diverse, fascinating country, and I can't believe a year has gone by since I visited (yes, this vlog is way overdue!). During my travels in Bangladesh, I visited the region of Sylhet, which is green and luscious, with so many distinctive communities and cultures scattered around its villages. In this vlog, I show you around a Manipuri (or Meitei) community's village - they're an ethnic group with their own culture, language and history.

A huge thank you to my friends Rakibur and Nasiba from Sylhet, who put us in touch with Raju and welcomed us to his Manipuri community with open arms. They run a small, family-owned hotel in Sylhet called Swiss Valley, where we stayed during our entire trip in Sylhet. You can check it out here:

Chimbuk Hill is one of the highest hills in Bangladesh is one of the more familiar spots in Bandarban. It is just 26 kilometers away from Bandarban Sadar. Chimbuk hill is approximately 2500 feet high above the sea level. The road is zigzag here. It will be charming to ride in a jeep. While your jeep is moving through the various native villages, their simplicity in human expression will compel you to think about our ancestors struggle to maintain existence. They are as simple as nature.

While looking down from Chimbuk, you will have the feelings of floating over the clouds. In a sunny day, you can see the cloud shades over the hills. The huge horizon of zigzag hills seem like waves of a sea. However, you can go to the nearly situated tribal villages at Chimbuk hill. You can learn the lifestyle of the tribal people. It will be a nice experience of your life if you can do so.

There are several ways to reach at Bandarban. The best available bus service is Soudia, S. Alam, Shaymoly, Unique, Dolphin etc. It will take around 9-10 hours to reach at the town from Dhaka. You can reach the Chimbuk hill using the Micro Bus, or any privately rental cars. You have to take permission from the Army or Police camp, but those are just for formalities. We are always happy with knowing who we are whether our capability is satisfactory to us or not. We know how to celebrate the life we are give. We know how to get the most out of our life.

There are many kinds of lifestyle of the people can be seen in Bangladesh — urban, rural and Tribal. Amidst the concrete jungle, the urban life follows a different direction than the rural life. The rural life has a much more strong relation with the nature. And, far from the maddening crowd, there are many tribal lifestyles can be noticed which are unique and vibrant in their own characteristics.

If you want to seek happiness with no condition applied, go visit our rural areas. The way of life has always been primitive and there exist no complications. The people in our village areas live by the nature. They respect the nature. In return, they are taken cared by the nature. This is most divine transaction in the entire world. This is why you can even find the most primitive lifestyle here. People uses farming tools just like their ancestors like. They prefer manual labor and natural resources instead of heavy machinery. This is why you will be amazed when you see any farmers ploughing their beloved soil with the help of macho bulls. Or even you will see the village woman making foods in ovens fueled with chopped up woods.

The village kids use the most of their life by playing various footballs, cricket, kabadi and many traditional sports. You can join them.
