Pogradec - Ohrid Lake | 4K Drone | Visit Albania 2023
You enter the region of Pogradec via the national highway where the road from Macedonia crosses Qafë Thanë. This crossroad offers picturesque views of Lake Ohrid, a true pearl nestled between Mali i Thatë (the Dry Mountain) to the east and the Mokra highland to the west. A little further down, you might stop at the Lin peninsula and in the village of the same name just 25 km outside of Pogradec. It is said that in ancient times, this was the favorite holiday destination of the Roman Emperor Justinian’s parents. In addition to the enchanting views, one can also discover the mosaics of Lin, dating back to the 7th-6th centuries B.C. This ancient artwork exhibits an amazing ensemble of zoomorphic, floral, and geometric decorations resembling those in ancient Durrës.
The road to Pogradec passes along the shore of the tectonic Lake Ohrid, the deepest lake in the Balkans (285 m). This 2-4 million year old lake is under UNESCO protection due to its unique value and is home 17 species of aquatic animals, 70% of which are native and 30% migrant. The sponge of Ohrid is found only here and in Lake Baikal. By the lakeside you will find an array of restaurants, clubs, and comfortable hotels. You must not miss a taste of the traditional fish dishes, especially the baked speckled trout (Koran in Albanian), as well as the famous pickles. You might also sample the various wines on offer, but don’t miss the traditional unique wine of Buti, or the famous Perla and Moskat raki of Pogradec.
The city of Pogradec was settled in the Neolithic period, and it later became home to the Illyrian Enkelejd and Desaret clans, who built the Castle of Pogradec on a hill at 870 m above sea level. The city, with its mild climate, lends itself to year-round visits. Before leaving Pogradec don’t miss Drilon and Tushemisht, just 4-5 km south of the city. The Drilon waters form a small lake, surrounded by beautiful greenery that makes the area and the nearby village of Tushemisht a unique oasis of beauty and tranquility.
The region of Pogradec is rich in striking and distinctive natural and historical monuments. You might visit the natural monument, the Rock of Kamje, which is located in the commune of Dardhas (on the way from Pogradec to Korça, near the village of Osnat). It is 70 m high and suddenly rises out of the surrounding terrain like a “ship sailing in a sea of green.” , The Church of Marena , The archaeological site and Monumental Graves of Selca lie 30 km away from Pogradec. The monuments here date back to the 4th century B.C. and the five monumental stone graves are found in very few places elsewhere in the Balkans.
The most visited tourist spots around Lake Ohrid are Lin, Pojskë, Hudenisht and Tushemisht. Worth visiting are the Drilon water sources, located 5 km from Pogradec. Don’t forget about the wonderful restaurants in the area, constructed from wood and offering some of the most delicious dishes of the region; don’t miss the Koran fish specialty (Tavë Korani) which order also the queen Elisabeth II of United Kingdom .
The tectonic lake is four million years old and is the deepest of its kind in the Balkans, reaching a maximum depth of 285 meters. The lake environment is a natural habitat for a variety of old flora and fauna. It houses the rare fish “Koran,” a kind of trout, impossible to find in almost any other lake in the world. Lake Ohrid is part of the Natural and Cultural Heritage List of UNESCO.

Lin is situated on a small peninsula on Lake Ohrid, just south of the Qafë Thanë mountain pass, which is a border-crossing point between Albania and North Macedonia. Pogradec is roughly 22 km to the south of the village, while Struga is about 10 km north, along the lake shore.

Pogradec :
Pogradec is the eleventh most populous city of the Republic of Albania and the capital of the eponymous municipality. It is located on a narrow plain between two mountain chains along the southwestern banks of the Lake of Ohrid. Its climate is profoundly influenced by a seasonal Mediterranean and Continental climate.
Once you have arrived in the city, you can use a car to drive around, but it is a better experience if you get around by foot, especially near the lake. In the night, especially in summer, there are a lot of people who walk around the boulevard and you will feel the good energy until midnight.
Pogradec is also famous for the usage of bicycles. You can rent a bicycle for a few hours and have enough time to visit some places and especially ride alongside the lake with a fantastic view.

Pogradec museum - Pogradec has a rich museum with antiques and ancient testimonials.

Lake Ohrid :
Lake Ohrid is a lake which straddles the mountainous border between the southwestern part of North Macedonia and eastern Albania. It is one of Europe's deepest and oldest lakes, with a unique aquatic ecosystem of worldwide importance, with more than 200 endemic species.
Lake Ohrid, lake on the North Macedonia–Albania border in southeastern Europe. It has an area of 134 square miles (347 square km). At 938 feet (286 metres). It is connected by underground channels to Lake Prespa to the southeast. Lake Ohrid is known for its beauty and its fishing, and there are several beaches. Interesting historic buildings are found in the towns that lie along its shores.

Pogradeci është qyteti turistik buzë liqenit të mrekullueshëm të Ohrit. Një qytet “palcërisht shqiptar” – siç thotë Lasgushi i madh, është i bukur jo vetëm prej natyre, por është edhe një qytet i lashtë e me tradita të hershme kulturore, artistike. Pogradeci ka shëtitore të gjëra, në të cilat mund të gjesh akoma xhiron tradicionale të qyteteve shqiptare. Shëtitores i është shtuar dhe ndriçimi. Bashkia e Pogradecit ka të tjera projekte për zhvillimin e zonës.

Lin is a village in the former Udënisht Municipality in Korçë County, Albania. At the 2015 local government reform it became part of the municipality Pogradec.
Lin is situated on a small peninsula on Lake Ohrid, just south of the Qafë Thanë mountain pass, which is a border-crossing point between Albania and Macedonia. Pogradec is roughly 22 km to the south of the village, while Struga is about 10 km north, along the lake shore. Radožda is the nearest settlement on the opposite side of the border.
The Lin area has been inhabited since at least the Iron Age. Archaeological findings from the hilltop above the present-day village include foundation walls and mosaics of an early Christian Byzantine church, dating from the 6th century. The church is a Cultural Monument of Albania and is included within the possible UNESCO site of the Natural and Cultural Heritage of the Ohrid Region (Albania).
In 1873, the village was recorded as having 65 households with 90 male Bulgarian Orthodox Christians and 62 male Muslims. In 1900, Vasil Kanchov traveled throughout the region, and he would report that Lin was a mixed village split equally between 300 Bulgarian Christians and 300 Albanian Muslims.
The Albanian Tosk dialect is spoken in the area. Lin is the only place in Albania where the Vevčani-Radožda dialect of Macedonian is spoken by Macedonians. The other three villages in which this dialect is spoken are in the Republic of Macedonia.
During the 2000s linguists Klaus Steinke and Xhelal Ylli seeking to corroborate villages cited in past literature as being Slavic speaking carried out fieldwork. Lin was noted as being a mixed village of Orthodox Christians and Muslims having 1680 inhabitants and 296 families. Local Lin villagers stated that few families still speak Macedonian, such as in instances of marriage with women from neighbouring Radožda in Macedonia, however, Macedonian overall is not used by the third generation.

Drilon, Pogradec - Albania by Drone 4K
National Park of Drilon is a park along a part of the Drilon River which is surrounded by dense vegetation and has a rich animal world. Driloni river is located on the outskirts of Lake Ohrid and Pogradec.
The source of the Drilon River is located near the village of Tushemisht at the foot of the hills and have an incomparable view. You can visit this natural monument if you follow the road Pogradec - St. Naum. It is a large limestone spring that springs at the bottom of the limestone block, continuing to flow into Lake Ohrid. The water comes from Lake Prespa through the Dry Mountain. Water comes out as a large separate spring with a flow of 7 m³/s.
This place has been a favorite to spend the holidays from King Zog and Enver Hoxha. You can visit his house, which has already been turned into a hotel and restaurant.

Parku Kombëtar i Drilonit ndodhet përgjatë një pjese të lumit Drilon. Parku është i rrethuar nga një bimësi e dendur dhe ka një botë të pasur kafshësh.
Burimi i lumit Drilon ndodhet pranë fshatit Tushemisht rrëzë kodrave dhe ka një pamje të mrekullueshme. Parku ndodhet në rrugën Pogradec - Shën Naum. Lumi furnizohet nga një burim i madh gëlqeror që buron në fund të bllokut të gurit gëlqeror, duke vazhduar të derdhet në Liqenin e Ohrit. Uji vjen nga Liqeni i Prespës përmes Malit të Thatë. Uji del si një burim i madh i veçantë me një prurje prej 7 m³/s.
Parku është shumë i përshtatshëm për piknik, ecje në natyrë apo shëtitje me barkë. Preferohet shumë nga familjet me fëmijë për shkak të hapsirave të bollshme dhe freskisë që e karakterizon.
Ky ka qenë vendi i preferuar nga mbreti Zog dhe Enver Hoxha për të kaluar pushimet. Ju mund të vizitoni shtëpinë ku Hoxha ka qëndruar, e cila tashmë është kthyer në një hotel/restorant.
