House Tour: 1897 Victorian Mansion

Go to and use code RESTORATION to save 25% off today, that’s only $14.99 a year. Thanks to Curiosity Stream for sponsoring today’s video.

We are so excited to share this treasure with you! The Pillow Thompson House 1897 is an amazing example of Victorian Queen Anne design.

This exquisite home is one of the finest examples of George Barber architecture in Arkansas. The plans were purchased from the Sears and Roebuck catalog, but the materials were sourced from the builders own lumber mills. The materials inside are gorgeous examples of Arkansas pine, oak and poplar. The transoms over the pocket doors have always contained burled wood, never glass.

This home stayed in the Thompson family until it was donated to the University of Arkansas Community College of Phillips county. The historic home has undergone an extensive restoration thanks to generous donations from donors, and now serves as a community event center and is open for tours Wednesday-Saturday from 10-4.

Hopefully if you ever come to see our Helen in Helena you'll stop in and say hello to tour guide Raymond and let him show you the splendor of the Pillow-Thompson historic home!

ABANDONED MANSION WITH THE MOST AMAZING BATHROOMS!!

The mansion was built by a rich landowner but at the end of its time it was a popular hotel with lots of rich guests.

STORY:

One cold February morning we had planned to visit a farm on the outskirts of a major city in Belgium. We had received a tip from another Belgian friend and had been warned that the neighbor was a local cop and several had been thrown away from the property by him. We arrived at 3am at night, it was foggy and cold and after drinking a cup of hot coffee from the gas fire, we sat down to sleep for a few hours in the car.

Early in the morning, we got up to go through the woods to the farm in the shelter of the darkness. We could not use flashlights because we would must not pay attention to ourselves, and it was quite of a walk through woods and scrub, it was wet and cold but we eventually got there. In front of us was the old farm. Tucked away in the dark and with clear evidence that no one had lived here for a long time.

We started our exploration of the house to find a way in. We had heard that the back door was open, but it was locked with a huge new padlock. After 30 minutes, it became clear that there was no way inside the house. Everything was locked and closed and as we only enter if it is open, it was clear that here we had to give up. We could now see that there were lights on in the house next door and the path we had entered would not be possible to use anymore without someone noticing that we were there. We had to find another way out to the car again.

We walked through the farm’s overgrown garden, hoping we found a path we could use. After struggling through thorns and much more crap, we suddenly came out to an open lawn. We moved on, the sun was rising and suddenly we saw a huge mansion in front of us. At first, we were nervous that we were invading someone's garden, but as we looked closer at the mansion in the sun's early morning rays, it was clear that no one was living here anymore.

With renewed excitement over this unknown find, we pulled out the cameras and took a picture of the old mansion with the sun rising, then examined the large mansion, and soon found out that there was a garden door that was open. We sat down inside and waited for the sun to rise high enough in the sky for us to see something and begin our exploration.

The mansion was almost empty of furniture, but the large beautiful rooms nevertheless gave a feeling of former grandeur. The beautiful light of the early morning made the rooms even more beautiful. The first floor consisted of a lot of bedrooms of different colors, each with their own bathroom. It quickly became clear that this was not a normal mansion when we also found a bar.

The investigation has since told us that the mansion was built in the early 1900s. It was built by a wealthy landlord and this one lived here with his family. Throughout the 20th century, the mansion was inhabited by various families until it was abandoned in the late 1980s when it could not be sold. However, in the late 90's it was bought again and the mansion was now being transformed into a luxury wellness hotel. The hotel ran really well until the financial crisis started in 2008, guests got fewer and fewer and finally, the hotel closed around 2010. Since then it has been abandoned and just waiting for new owners.

Although the mansion was empty when we visited it, we actually spent quite some time in there. The beautiful light from the sun provided some amazing pictures and we could leave the mansion happy, wet and tired but happy.

Exploring A Politician’s Abandoned 1895 Mansion

They just don't make them like this anymore. This Victorian mansion was built around the turn of the 1895 century by the local judge of a southern U.S. town. There’s little known info about this mansion. Much of the original documents were destroyed years ago. The wood work and master craftsmanship of this house is remarkable. It’s sad to see such an amazing house left abandoned

Abandoned California Beachfront Mansion Worth $20 Million

During our trip to the West Coast, we decided to end our last two days at an incredible spot on the Pacific Coast Line. A stunning white abandoned mansion sits on a super busy highway right on the Pacific Ocean. It was built in the 1950's and has some nice architecture despite the inside being completely gutted. We haven't exploring any abandoned mansions so this was a treat for us either way. Its very rare to come across an abandoned mansion on the beach anywhere in the USA. We had an amazing sunset both days and got to hang out by the beach while we got to know our new exploring buddies while taking some incredible photos. It doesn't get any better than that!

Thanks for the drone shots! (My Drone wasn't working as always! )

Historic Abandoned Mansion | Urban Exploring Ohio

We explored this abandoned mansion in Cincinnati, Ohio that was built in 1895. This beautiful stone castle-like mansion was built for George Dittman who owned a Shoe Manufacturing Company in Cincinnati. In 1990s the property was converted into a nursing home. The home in the Avondale Neighborhood was condemned on September 24, 2012. This home is recognized on the National Register of Historic Places as the Mary A. Wolfe House but this was due to a mixup.

It is a shame that this historical property is can make it on the registry of historic places but not be saved.

HOUSE TOUR: 1904 Marlsgate Plantation - Scott, Arkansas

Go to to get an additional 30% off your order and free worldwide shipping! Thanks to Blissy for sponsoring today’s video.

Welcome to stunning Marlsgate Plantation, and our historic home tour of this remarkable gem! Marlsgate sits at the site of a Plantation Plain home, built in the antebellum period by the Dortch family. From 1885 to 1913, the Dortch family farmed the 7000 acres of this plantation with the help of 100 tenant farmer families.

This amazing neo-classical revival home resembles a Greek Revival, but as it this beauty was built in 1904 that places her style in the Neo-Classical Revival period. Inside you'll find 14' ceilings, all of which are adorned with pressed tin decoration. Ionic style columns flank a grand central staircase, leading to gorgeous stained glass and a monumental second floor landing.

This beautiful historic home remains much as it was when it was built in 1904. The grounds contain buildings from 1888-1930, one of our favorites being the glass conservatory with koi pond. You'll also see a glimpse of the original plantation big house', which is a much more acurrate example of plantation architecture than the few high style greek revival or italianate styles that have become synonymous with the era due to Hollywood glamorization.

Sitting across from Bearskin Lake this beautiful early 20th century historic home is now the site of weddings, corportate events, cooking classes and bus tours. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975, followed by the Dortch Planation in 1979. If you are ever in Arkansas don't miss your chance to see Marlsgate Plantation.

Exploring a Criminal's Abandoned $8 Million Mansion - NJ

**UPDATE** This mansion was completely destroyed by fire on February 1st, 2017. Watch the news coverage of the fire at:

Exploring an Abandoned $8 Million Mansion in New Jersey. The former owner was sent to prison after the FBI uncovered a multi-million dollar fraud scheme he was running.

This 20,000+ square foot home built in 2002 once contained a gym, home theater, barbershop, a ballroom and a wine cellar, among many other features. In 2009 the mansion was valued at $8 million. It was one of the largest homes in that area. Most homes nearby are valued at about $2 million.

Today, the mansion is now off the market, but is valued at roughly $1 million, a fraction of its original value. In 2009 the owner was charged with wire fraud as part of a mortgage scam he ran netting his company more than $11 million in illegal profits.

He was also later charged with bankruptcy fraud after falsely filing for bankruptcy in an attempt to conceal his assets from a trustee and creditors. He originally claimed he had only $5,000 in cash, no household goods, no jewelry, no vehicles or any other personal assets of any value.

The FBI found he had more than $200,000 in personal assets he deliberately concealed from the court. He was originally facing 20 years in prison and was released on a $1 million bond. Two years later, in 2011 he was sentenced to roughly 5 years in prison, to pay $12 million in restitution, 3 years supervised release, and 480 hours of community service.

His former company served to initiate and fund mortgages for clients by borrowing money from a third party lender. To repay the lender, his company would resell, at a profit, the home mortgage in the secondary mortgage market.

The company made a profit because it earned fees for both the origination and resale of the mortgage. His company used to originate, finance and resell about $90 million worth of mortgages each month. As a result of the housing crisis, his company had its own liquidity crisis in January 2008. According to the FBI, that’s when the scheme began.

In 2008, he began submitting false documents to financial institutions as part of a mortgage re-selling scheme. He created a second set of fake mortgage documents such as loan applications, promissory notes, closing sheets, and settlement forms. He used these to resell mortgages a second time, even though the actual mortgage loan for that property already had been sold.

The illegal funds were wired to his company account, which he used to pay his corporate and personal expenses. His lavish lifestyle caught the attention of the FBI including this mansion, several vehicles, spending $400,000 on special seats at football games, & more.

It appears that as of now, a few years shy of his full sentence, he is out of prison, active on social media promoting his new business venture.
